World Leaders Arrive At Downing Street For Dinner Ahead Of The G20 Summit

There’s a lot of hoopla going around the web about Michelle Obama touching the Queen during a recent visit to Buckingham Palace.

We don’t know if there was any touching going on at this particular event, but a dinner where a famous British athlete preferred the veggie option is worth talking about.

Dame Kelly Holmes is a double Olympic gold medalist who has set British records in several middle distance running categories, including 600, 800, 1,000, and 1,500 meters distances.

She recently had lunch with First Lady Michelle Obama to celebrate the G20 summit.

Dame Kelly gave kudos to the vegetarian meal of goats cheese starter and potato dumpling.

We’re not sure if she sampled the meat dishes or if she doesn’t eat meat, but it’s cool she preferred the veggie option!

A Powerful Noise Live

The folks at Chef’s Secret on E. 45th Street in New York city have what you call an obsess-much for vegan actress Natalie Portman.

It seems they’ve named a salad after her. But like Emmylou Harris wasn’t too pleased with being told she was like bacon and made everything better, Natalie probably wouldn’t be too thrilled at the “Natalie Portman” salad consisting of “lobster, seaweed and strawberry served with Wasabi and Japanese mayonnaise.”

What on earth is this craziness? You might call it honoring. You might call it disturbing. One thing’s for sure: Any fan of Natalie who loves her enough to name a salad after her should know not to name a SEAFOOD salad after her.

New Yorkers, you may want to stop by and let these guys in on the secret: Natalie’s got no room for lobster love on the menu.

Amber Tamblyn Had Calling For Pork Chops, Bacon

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, April 7th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian.

God Of Carnage Broadway Opening - Arrivals And Curtain Call

What if God were one of us? Just a slob like one of us? Eating too many pork chops like one of us?

Remember Joan of Arcadia? The television series starring Amber Tamblyn, in which God regularly spoke to a teenage girl in person, sending her on adventures that seemed ridiculous, but in the end served a good purpose?

God took on the form of some pretty interesting people, including janitors and a Goth teenage boy with black lipstick and multiple piercings.

Perhaps to get more in touch with a “purer” side, Tamblyn tried going vegan while filming episodes of Joan. Like Joan of Arcadia, her vegan diet was later cancelled, as well as her vegetarian one.

From USAtoday.com:

“I was vegetarian for about three years. And then I wanted to try to be vegan when I was onĀ Joan of Arcadia. I like pork chops, delicious pork chops! I love bacon. It’s delicious.”

What’s worst is that when the journalist questioned her ordering bacon and eggs during the interview, she rolled her eyes at the mention of reports that she was vegetarian.

We’re betting if Amber walked into the fake meat section of the grocery store, she’d find plenty of pork and bacon substitutes to satisfy her carnal urges.

Perhaps she’d even find a “special” stock boy working there explaining how she can change a life by buying the Lightlife Smart Bacon.

Missy Higgins’ fans know who she is!

During a recent conversation on the missyhiggins.org forum, one fan wanted to know where Missy got her wickedly delicious guitar strap shown here.

Much talk went on about the origins of the strap, including the theory it came from a vintage porn shop. Don’t ask us how they arrived at that one. We won’t go there.

One fan offers some insight into the materials in the strap:

“Based on what the strap looks like, I think your best bet is some sort of cotton/nylon strap with what normally would be leather or suede ends, but the vegan in her probably opposes any cow hide for the strap.”

Woohoo! Missy has taught her fans well, as they’re well schooled on her principles when it comes to animal products.

If you’re a guitar player, you can rock out vegan style with straps at couchguitarstraps.com.

Bob Barker Shares Priceless Memories With Animal Legal Defense Fund

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, April 7th, 2009 in Animal Issues, TV Hosts, Videos.

Bob Barker recently spoke with Director Stephen Wells of the Animal Legal Defense Fund about his new book, Priceless Memories, which is a memoir of his love of animals throughout his personal and professional career.

Bob brought along a friend, a rescue dog named Jessie. Jessie decides to take a snooze halfway into the conversation, but don’t let that fool ya. It’s not boring!

Bob discusses his DJ&T Foundation, which subsidizes the costs of spaying and neutering pets. The foundation was named after his wife and mother, Dorothy Jo and Tillie, two good women that helped turn him around to animal compassion.

Thanks for the tip: Animal Legal Defense Fund
