Update 1/7/09: Ani actually won 3 categories, as her book, Ani’s Raw Food Kitchen, placed first for best raw vegan book of the year. Woohoo!

Remember that awesome vegan chef, Ani Phyo, who catered Maroon 5’s vegan Halloween party? Who knew that most of the guys in Maroon 5 were vegan before she came along? We sure didn’t!

She’s won two categories in the Best of Raw 2008 poll!

Ani won for Best Raw Chef and Sexiest Raw Vegan Woman (hubba, hubba, giggity, giggity). And although she is sexy, brains are what really count, and she won second place for her intellectual efforts as a Raw Vegan Educator.

Congrats to Ani!

With celebrities like Eva Longoria and Fergie making New Year’s resolutions to eat healthier and raw, Ani just might find herself catering more vegan parties to the stars soon.

Real Gossip Girl Serena Would Want Herb Smoking Vegan Aaron

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 in Actors, Actresses, Authors.

Penn Badgley, Blake Lively, John Patrick Amedori on location for 'Gossip Girl'

On the TV series “Gossip Girl”, John Patrick Amedori plays the player Aaron Rose, who dates both Vanessa Abrams (Jessica Szohr) and Blake Lively’s character, Serena van der Woodsen.

But according to the author of the books the series was based on, Cecily von Ziegesar, the real life Serena would never fall for Aaron, who she describes as “ick.”

“I do not believe that Serena would go for icky Aaron as he is portrayed on the show,” she said. “He’s so slimy!”

Book Aaron is also VEGAN, smokes herbal cigarettes, and has mini-dreadlocks.

And although plots on the big screen can carry on for weeks and weeks, book love is quite short.

She adds, “He and Serena fall in love, but it only lasts for about one book.”

Robert Pattinson: Being A Vegetarian Vampire Hard On The Eyes

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 in Actors.

Twilight actor Robert Pattinson has a hair raising experience - London

The vegetarian vampires of the Twilight saga are like vegetarian humans who call themselves vegetarian but say they eat chicken. Yeah…not really.

But if you’re a vampire living in Forks, Washington, then refraining from eating humans and eating forest creatures instead is vegetarian. Vampire readers in Forks, you know what we’re talking about right? Never mind, we don’t really want that question answered.

Robert Pattinson plays vegetarian vampire Edward Cullen, who thanks to his “vegetarian” diet, has topaz colored eyes. The producers couldn’t find a real human with topaz colored eyes, so when Robert got the part, they forced him to wear topaz colored contact lenses. And they can make a vegetarian vampire quite grumpy.

He told Britain’s Ok Magazine he isn’t looking forward to shooting the sequel New Moon, because he has to wear the lenses.

“It was like I constantly had sand in my eyes. I was wearing them for three months constantly and my eyes never ever accepted them! It took me 20 minutes per eye every single day and I ended up having to literally fold it into my eyeball.”

Not only that, but they inhibit vampire seductive skills.

“It was frustrating as well because normally your eyes are saying something, but if you’ve got two orange blobs in your face it’s so annoying! The director would say, ‘Look at her (Kristen Stewart) like you love her,’ and I’d be like, ‘I’m trying!'”

At least he gets the reward of munching on some forest critters in his trailer between scenes.

Alanis Morissette’s Vegan Now: You Oughta Know!

Alanis Morissette Performs At The Hard Rock

Cause she’s got one hand in her pocket, and the other one grabbing a soy milk.

Once upon a time, Canadian diva Alanis Morissette was a strict vegetarian. Then she started to indulge in processed food here and there thinking as long as she kept everything in moderation, she’d be okay.

Fast forward 20 pounds later and feeling sluggish in the morning, Alanis decided it was time to go back, this time going all the way to being vegan.

She followed an eating plan outlined in the book Eat to Live, by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, a physician associated with the Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine, which recommends shunning meat and dairy.

She spoke to Ok! Magazine about her new body which she said makes her feel 12 years old again about how she happened to discover Dr. Fuhrman’s book.

“I went to my favorite bookstore, Banyen Books and Sound, in Vancouver. I saw this book, Eat to Live, and I thought, that’s exactly what I want to do. I wasn’t interested in some fad diet that was unsustainable, like “lose 10 pounds in two weeks.” I don’t believe in diets; I think they’re short-term and a bit of an emotional roller-coaster. So I opened it and flipped through and thought the weight loss is incidental. The primary focus is disease prevention.”

Respect Your Chick And Try To Relate

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 2nd, 2009 in Actresses, Female Singers.

1_452139198l1Guys, if there’s anything you need to know about dating, it’s how to respect your chick. Actually, the same advice goes for girls, according to Filipina actress and singer Yasmien Kurdi.

She’s helped PETA Asia Pacific start their New Year off with a bang, appearing in two ads promoting vegetarianism.

“Respect Chicks” and “Try To Relate To Who Is On Your Plate” both feature Yasmien and her co-star, a chicken.

She’s been a longtime supporter of the organization and has worked for them in the past.

“With so many delicious alternatives now available, it’s easier than ever to enjoy great food without causing animal suffering,” Kurdi said.

What a pair of hot chicks they make. As far as we’ve heard, they’re both still single.

Theatregoers' Choice Awards Launch 2009 - Arrivals

Suzanne Shaw is a British actress and winner of Series 3 of the UK TV show, Dancing on Ice, where celebrities are paired and dance on ice in competition.

“Dancing on Ice,” is going on tour soon, and Suzanne was looking for a way to keep fit in the meantime and cutting out meat from her diet did the trick.

“I’ve gone vegetarian – well, I’ve been eating fish, but no meat. I’ve been eating loads of veg and cut out fatty foods and alcohol.”

“I went off meat a little while ago and thought a meat-free diet would be the one for me. And it’s working – I’m feeling good on it,” she added.

“I’m not going to break my diet yet – if I do, I won’t be able to get back in shape in time to start rehearsals in January for the Dancing On Ice tour.”

Hopefully, Suzanne will never break her “diet.” Then, she may never have to “get back in shape,” again.

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 2nd, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

'Pride and Glory' premiere celebrity arrivals in New York City

Being in charge of yummy vegan sweets has got to be the best responsibility ever!

Actress Lake Bell may be best known for her role as Tipper in What Happens in Vegas alongside Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz. But she’s currently starring in a web streamed series on WB.com called Childrens’ Hospital, which pokes fun at other medical shows on TV like Grey’s Anatomy and “ER.”

She’s a vegan and when she went home for the holidays to her family in New York, her job was to take care of the desserts.

Before she left, she told Just Jared:

“I’m a vegan, so I’m in charge of all the vegan desserts. I’ve ordered everything this time, even though I do love to cook. I like to support this bakery called Baby Cakes in New York, which is a vegan bakery. But you don’t know its vegan, it’s so good.”

Lake may never read what we wrote about her, as she’s not a big blog lover, but more into online shopping. Read the rest of her interview with Just Jared.
