Corey Feldman Will Walk In Winter Wonderland For Animals

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, November 21st, 2008 in Actors.

CUN's 9th Annual Awards Celebration And Viewing Dinner - Show

Farm Sanctuary, an organization created to combat issues of animal abuse on farms,  will be holding a benefit on December 4th, 2008 at the Art Director’s Club in New York City.

“Winter Wonderland,” will feature gourmet food from NYC’s best vegetarian restaurants, a silent auction, and of course, celebrities to mingle with, like Corey Feldman.

Sure hope he’s wearing more than what he was in the Give Peas a Chance ad, which played upon one John Lennon and Yoko Ono did years ago. New York’s a little cold in December for that, Corey.

Other notables you might get to rub elbows with are Jennifer Coolidge, Peter Max, Patrick McDonnell, Tatum O’Neal,
Daniela Sea, Ally Sheedy, Princess Superstar, Loretta Swit, and
Justin Theroux.

General admission tickets are $100, so if you’re a young, freshly graduated from college adult or pinching pennies, put some back from your paycheck you got TODAY. It’s for a great cause and will put you in the mood for the season.

And who knows? Corey might not be wearing much after all.

Paltrow Pretty Much Vegetarian Except For Big Fat Turkey

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, November 21st, 2008 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian.

Two Lovers Paris Premiere

Gwyneth Paltrow took some heat not too long ago for posing draped in fur in an ad for Tod’s clothing. She’s recently given a public apology to her green and vegetarian fans and PETA, saying the fur was thrown over her at the last minute and she thought it was fake.

She told PETA, her and her husband, Coldplay front man Chris Martin, are “pretty much vegetarians,” and “we know it’s the best diet for us and our kids, and of course for animals and the environment.”

However, it seems as if she should have followed up the statement with, “Except for Thanksgiving, when we chow down on that fat bird.” In an article in the Huffington Post, she writes:

“Turkey will always be the main event of Thanksgiving (at least in my house) and a whole turkey is the way to go if you’re feeding at least 12. But if your party is smaller, the stuffed turkey breast turns out to be a great halfway point. Brining it overnight insures that you don’t need to baste it and it has a quick cooking time. Why should things be any less festive if dinner is just for two? I came up with these stuffed turkey burgers which were a giant hit in my house. They are the perfect solution for anyone who isn’t feeding a big group (or for a big group that wants to try something different!).”

Not only is she admitting to bringing bird into her home during Thanksgiving, but even giving you instructions for how to grind it and make patties.

While her and Chris may entertain family that eat turkey and they’re expected to cook it, considering her track record, she should probably be avoiding talking turkey patties on such as widely read blog.

Better yet, put some recipes up there for Tofurky patties! And make it for your house guests too.

REM’s Michael Stipe, Peter Buck Have Vegetarian Code Words

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, November 21st, 2008 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

2008 Voodoo Experience - Day 3

Singer Michael Stipe and guitarist Peter Buck of the musical group REM are both vegetarians, so it shouldn’t come as a surprised that they’d be concerned about the food options while on tour, whether it’d be backstage or in a hotel.

When Stipe and Buck took part in a discussion before a show about how much fruit and vegetarian food was going to be at an after party, a journalist joked that maybe these terms meant something else. In the world of rock and roll, there are often code words for drugs, alcohol, and women.

Nope. Fruits and veggies really do mean fruits and veggies. Boring, but true.

“It’s about respect,” Buck said, referring to ensuring vegetarian options were available.

Stipe once owned a vegetarian restaurant and juice bar in Athens, Georgia, where the group all met up as students. It closed, but he is now the owner of the building which houses The Grit, a successful veg eatery in the same town.

Pamela Anderson Signs Pact With The Leather Devil

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, November 21st, 2008 in Actresses, Fashion, Not So Vegetarian.

Vivienne Westwood Red Label - LFW Spring Summer 2009 - Runway

Pamela Anderson has been one of the most outspoken celebrities for vegetarianism and against animal cruelty. Therefore, it’s quite a surprise to learn she has singed a deal to be the face of fashion designer Vivienne Westwood.

The designer has stopped using fur in her creations. However, she has a long way to go before she can call herself cruelty-free. Leather is still being used to dress the svelte models who walk her runway and the same fashion designs will make their way to the consumer, such as the fuchsia leather suit from the spring 2009 collection.

Some vegetarians have different standards when it comes to eating versus clothing, but since Pamela Anderson has been so pro-vegan, working with PETA, protesting against Kentucky Fried Chicken, and calling out a certain singer for the clothing she chose to wear, it’s not something you would expect from her.

She even has expressed a desire to design her own line of vegan shoes, after finding out one of her favorite kind, Ugg boots, contain sheepskin.

Is it possible she just doesn’t know?

Shortly after she began taping “Big Brother” in Australia, it was revealed that KFC, a company she protested against so heavily, was a sponsor for the show. Pammie claimed to know nothing of it. Or did she?

Money sometimes makes you forgetful. The Vivienne Westwood deal is worth six figures. Still, other vegetarian stars don’t have problems with dementia. Leona Lewis turned down over a million to avoid being associated with a store that sold fur.

Thanks: Deceiver

Rachael Ray On Why She Did The Deed

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, November 20th, 2008 in Chefs.

'Rachel Ray's Big Orange Book' Signing

We told you how Rachael Ray’s new Big Orange Book cookbook is featuring an entire chapter of vegetarian options. In an interview with Canton Rep, Rachael explains more about how requests from her fans on the road led her to expand the types of recipes offered:

“With every book I try and come up with a theme that’s a new way of looking at our recipes and what we do. I like to think outside the box. The book is based largely on our 30-minute meals but it also came from what people requested, kosher food, veggie meals that are hearty. Lots of families have one vegetarian with one or more meat-eater.”

Absolutely! Many people who start off vegetarian do so in their teens, still living at home with meat eating parents and brothers and sisters. While most evenings weren’t difficult to throw together spaghetti or a bean burrito, holidays might have presented a problem.

Although mom and dad may have been smart enough to figure you weren’t touching turkey, they may not have understood why you wouldn’t touch the stuffing either (as it contained chicken broth for seasoning).

It’s time for heartfelt confessions. Do any of you have horror stories growing up being the only vegetarian out of several meat eaters? Are you still the only non-fish in the sea, having to make your separate food when family is over or even worse, having to make their meat food because you’re in the minority?

Linda McCartney Food Sales Give Family Reason To Celebrate

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, November 20th, 2008 in Fashion, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Live 8 London - Stage

The late Linda McCartney designed a range of vegetarian frozen meals that remain with her family just as much as her spirit. When the McCartneys are together for a family event, they say they often eat the Vegetarian Roast as a meal.

They have much to celebrate, as according to the Dereham Times, Linda’s food range has experienced a 20% increase in sales every year. In a tough and unpredictable economy, it’s job security for the more than 180 workers in the Hain Frozen Food factory located at Fakenham.

Ironically, it may be the tough economy that’s helping to boost sales, thus providing job security. Meat can be expensive, especially in comparison to the nuts, legumes, and pastas that are available to those eating vegetarian.  Some who give financial advice recommend even meat eaters go vegetarian for one day of the week in order to save money.

An article in Divine Caroline listed 19 of the 20 healthiest foods under $1 as vegetarian, and 17 of them were vegan, including protein rich garbanzo beans, tofu, and nuts!

Do you know of any veg foods/vegetarian combinations of food that are cheap yet tasty?

Pamela Anderson’s Letter To Obama Advocates Vegetarianism

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, November 20th, 2008 in Actresses.

Pamela Anderson gives press conference in Moscow

Now that Obama has been elected, everyone has their ideas for what he should be doing during his term, including celebrities.

Pamela Anderson took it upon herself to write a letter to Obama asking him to promote vegetarianism and end animal testing, among other things.

“Promote vegetarianism-which would help end world hunger- crack down on factory farming that is killing the environment and slaughtering so many animals- wastefully and carelessly and its unhealthy/and its just impractical- to think this is monitored/regulated effectively…”

“Stop all these garbage, wasteful and ineffective ,ancient animal tests (from 80 years ago?)- create a REAL working dedicated and active group of people assigned to this issue- science is suppose to be progressive?”

“We need to get with it- update like Europe has its an embarrassment and nobody wishes this senseless cruelty to go on.”

The Whitney Contemporaries Host ARTPARTY

“I think that the only reason I don’t look like I’m a 130 years old after a lifetime of touring so much and living in hotel rooms, and drinking too much, is that I’ve been a vegan now for 22 years.

Normally friends of mine, when they wake up and they’re hungover, they go out and have bacon and eggs and smoke cigarettes. When I wake up, I have a smoothie and vegan burritos.”
