Laura Linney

Laura Linney had the privilege of working with vegan actress Alicia Silverstone during the run of the play Time Stands Still. The old saying that a vegan rubs off on everyone must be true, because Linney revealed in the August 2010 print edition of Prevention magazine that Silverstone and her vegan cookbook, The Kind Diet, have changed her eating patterns.

“I love Alicia – she had an enormous influence on me. I burst with pride over her book [The Kind Diet]. And she said, “You don’t have to be one thing or the other, just figure out what’s best for you.” I had been so rigid in my thinking about if I was going to be a vegetarian, if I was going to be a vegan. I don’t have to put that pressure on myself. I”m just trying to learn what the best diet is for me.”

North Shore Animal League America Celebrates The Tour For Life

John Bartlett, named Designer of the Year by The American Apparel and Footwear Association, has announced he’s gone vegan, and will no longer use leather in his collections.

Although he has been known in the fashion community for his use of leather, starting in September, those pieces will be discontinued and he will look for non-leather alternatives to use in his designs.

On his blog, Barlett, explained the decision came after reading Alicia Silverstone‘s vegan diet and lifestyle book, “The Kind Diet.”

“I had recently read Alicia Silverstone’s great book “The Kind Diet” and started to come to terms with the impact of meat eating on myself, on the animals who are being “factory farmed” and on the environment.”

Giada At Home

Giada De Laurentiis has a new book out, Giada At Home, named after her newest Food Network Show.

The Boca Raton Vegetarian Examiner says Giada’s latest cookbook has a few vegetarian friendly recipes, like pecorino and bean salad, pea pesto crostini and Italian fried olives.

Sasha Muzzarelli says that Giada has “wonderful vegetarian dishes” from her previous cookbooks and Food Network Show and indicates that many of the recipes in Giada at Home contain meat.

Has Giada taken a more animal protein centered approach to her cooking this time around?

An attendee at the launch of Alicia Silverstone‘s party for her vegan cookbook, The Kind Diet, Giada doesn’t loathe dishes without meat.

Would love to see this Food Network star take the flexitarian approach to Italian cooking in future recipes, adding more Tuscan cuisine of legumes, vegetables and fruits and pasta with meatless sauce creations to the collection.
