Quantcast Vegetarian StarPrince Charles

Now that the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton is over, we can gossip about much more interesting things hip Brits are doing like organic farming.

Prince Charles agrees and during his visit to Washington, D.C. in the states, he praised Walmart, criticized farm subsidies and the use of lots of pesticides. He also said these things were way cooler to discuss compared to the “embarassing speeches” he made during William and Kate’s wedding reception.

Butter London 3 Free

A British cosmetic company called Butter London is releasing a limited edition nail lacquer symbolizing Kate Middleton‘s long wait before finally agreeing to tie the knot with Prince William.

“Waity Kaity” will be part of Butter London’s “3 Free” collection, meaning it, like all of its lacquers, does not contain three chemicals found in traditional lacquer that are suggested toxins–formaldehyde, toluene, and DBP (Phthales).

Butter London is also a vegan-friendly company which has taken the time to formulate other products without chemicals like parabens, such as “The Master,” “The Mistress,” and “The Madam.”

48358, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM - Thursday December 9 2010. PETA protesters grab publicity for their cause during the Lady Gaga Waxwork unveiling in London. The girls, who were dressed in outfits made of cabbage leaves, took the opportunity to gain publicity outside the Gaga event and hand out vegetarian sausages. Gaga’s wax image joins the collection of several famous people including David Beckham, Britney Spears, Prince Charles and Barack Obama. A sharp contrast from Gaga’s meat dress that got media attention months ago, the women in cabbage outfits were probably a little chilly, since most people don’t wear hats, scarves and mittens with bikini tops. Prince Charles has opened his home to the London public to host a sustainable living fair, A Garden Party To Make A Difference. But quite a few rodents are into the organic fruits and vegetables he’s grown and are the source of annoyance to the staff at his residence.

According to MSNBC, a source told The Sun the eco-friendly loving rats are having a hard time practicing the art of not over-consuming. “The rats have become more of a problem. There seem to be more — and they are getting bigger. We’ve lost strawberries and our tomatoes got nibbled overnight. It’s all down to the rats.”

No animal lover wants to kill rats with poisonous material or painful traps, but no one wants their yard to be a farmers market for rodents either. What is a humane, eco-friendly way to evict these creatures from your property? Peanut Butter!

Prince Charles has opened another one of his organic produce shops, this one located in Bath, Somerset. The Highgrove store sells both organic food and lifestyle products and is named after the Prince’s home in Gloucestershire.

The majority of goods in the store are created by British artisan manufacturers and craftsmen and profits from sales are donated to the Prince’s Charities Foundation.

Besides opening the store, Prince Charles was also scheduled to give a lecture on the environment.

Prince Charles is a major supporter of organics, and has stated in interviews he believes the benefits of such goods outweigh the costs when it comes to savings from health related expenses.

Charles And Camilla Visit Hungary - Day 1

Prince Charles has been an outspoken proponent of organic farming for some time, and he recently gave the Times Online a glimpse into the Highgrove farm and garden.

He denies the notion that organic farming isn’t a sustainable way to feed people, citing that although organic food costs more, people were paying three times as much for their food 30 years ago.

“Organic production costs more because of the effort and the management and the time that has gone into it,” he said. “Yet 30 years ago people were spending 30 per cent of their income on food, now it’s 10 per cent, so it’s all relative.”

Perhaps their health care costs were cheaper three decades ago too, as now mass produced and processed foods have contributed to obesity and other lifestyle related diseases, the effects of such wreaking havoc on both human and animal health.

“I’ve always felt that if you rely on endless inputs, artificial, chemical, goodness knows what, and if you treat animals like machines, it is not durable in the long term because nature will rebel. If you imagine that dairy cattle will produce quantities of milk that Nature never intended, and feed them on food that Nature never intended them to eat, like these huge feed lots in the United States and elsewhere which I think are an abomination and immoral, you will have a problem with type 2 diabetes. You’re producing cheap food but you’re actually creating more expense elsewhere in the chain.”

Camilla, Duchess Of Cornwall Praises Seasonal British Produce

The Duchess Of Cornwall Visits Polish Social And Cultural Association

British food dull and boring?

Ha!

That’s not what the Duchess of Cornwall thinks.

At an event to launch British Food Fortnight, an campaign meant to highlight British producers, Camilla said the stereotypes of British food being “dull, turgid and over-boiled” were “utter rubbish”.

Camilla said she loved food that “followed the seasons”, not the “whims” of “multinational food conglomerates”.

It must be a family affair, as Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales, supports eating locally, organic grown produce too.

Information about the seasonal produce available in different areas of Britain, as well as advice for starting your own garden, can be found on the British Fortnight website.
