Lady Gaga

We gave you the best vegetarian news stories of 2010. But a lot of anti-veg events made headlines too. Here’s the best of the worst.

10. Johnny Weir ruffles fur feathers during the winter Olympics. It’s bad enough he picks a costume with rabbit fur around the collar. After being criticized, he’s says he’ll “wear fur again” and it’s all just a part of creative expression. Someone hit the ice with his head one time too many while practicing the double-dunce-klutz.

9. Sarah Palin kills caribou on TLC reality show, “Sarah Palin’s Alaska.” Someone who feeds her family potentially lead contaminated meat shouldn’t be criticizing Mrs. Obama’s initiatives to make school lunches healthier. In 2008, she gave an interview while Tom turkey got his head chopped off. In 2010, it’s Rudolph. Easter Bunny, dude, watch your back!

8. Angelina Jolie says secret beauty tip is steak. This is coming from an ex-vegan actress who was too lazy to do her research and learn to eat vegan properly, so she failed, went back to meat, and praised it for giving her that sexy “Salt” look. Would love to see what her heart looks like from all the salt in processed meats.

7. KT Tunstall is vegetarian–except for pig’s blood. Sure, some vegans will cheat and eat grandma’s butter cookies at Christmas. But KT Tunstall discussed in detail how scrumptious black pudding, a congealed “treat” made from pig’s blood, was even though she normally eats tofu and beans. “Suddenly we see” Twilight vegetarian vampire taking a whole new meaning.

KT Tunstall is the latest celebrity to comment on the Lady-Gaga-Meat-Dress-Saga. Yes, amazingly enough, that is still considered news.

Tunstall says that while she understands why vegetarians and vegans are so upset, Gaga’s dress worn for the cover of Vogue Japan isn’t much different from people wearing leather.

“As soon as I saw it, I thought, what is the difference between that and leather? Animals die needlessly for leather all the time.”

“I haven’t heard a legitimate reason why anyone would be offended by her wearing meat, except for vegans angry about animals being killed, which is fair enough.”

Tunstall, a pescatarian, recently took her own hit of controversy with vegetarians when she ate black pudding, a dish made of congealed pig’s blood.

A little steak on the hips. Pig’s blood to the lips. Can we all agree to aim to stop using animals for human purposes period and call it a day?

You’ve heard of those “I’m a vegetarian, but sometimes I eat” insert random meat product on occasion excuses. But KT Tunstall‘s revelation to a crowd in Stornaway in Scotland reveals she has vampire tendencies for pigs, as she enjoys the taste of black pudding, a dish made by cooking blood or dried animal blood until it is thick enough to be congealed.

On Saturday, March 28th at 8:30 PM, Earth Hour will take place.

People all around the world will turn off their lights for an hour, taking a stand for reducing carbon emissions.

If you plan to turn your lights out, why not invite Radiohead’s vegan Thom Yorke to spend time in the dark with you? Musically, that is. Don’t know what you were thinking.

GreenLivingOnline.com has compiled a list of top earth friendly musicians you can put on your playlist for the evening, including Radiohead.

“Not that we need more reasons to love Thom Yorke and Radiohead, but the U.K. band is also striving to reduce carbon emissions. When touring overseas, band members transport their gear via sea and avoid chartered flights. Recently, they stayed home and telecommuted to Late Night with Conan O’Brian rather than flying. Yorke is also a long-time vegan and his solo album, The Eraser, speaks directly to climate crisis issues. radiohead.com “

We’re sure Fake Plastic Trees degrade much faster than real plastic ones. Go Radiohead!

Other green musicians on the list include pescetarian KT Tunstall, who hangs out in her green designed home when she’s not on the road, and the Beastie Boys, who use biofuel on tour and participate in cell phone recycling programs.
