Chopped Food Network

One of the most renown vegan chefs in the U.S. can be seen on the Food Network’s Chopped next month competing in an event that will have both he and his competitors using plant-based protein.

Rich Landau of Philadelphia based Vedge was asked to use an ingredient he’s already quite familiar with.

The mystery ingredient of the night was tempeh.

“Mary Lou’s a strict vegan. When I came on the show, I thought, “How am I going to eat?” Last time there was no food and there was no water and we were all mad all the time,” Rinna said.

A vegan bakery based in Matawan, New Jersey won the Food Network’s recent Cupcake Wars competition.

Papa Ganache received the top prize of 10,000 dollars and the opportunity to feed the sweet craving crowd at the People’s Choice Awards.

Judges were thrilled with the baker’s crème brulée, chocolate ganache and salted caramel, l Brussel-carrot curry topped with cream cheese frosting and maple-curry reduction, and gluten-free lemon with blackberry and lemon-thyme filling cupcakes.

In a recent Tweet, the vegan blogger told fans she’s not normally gluten-free, but she’s giving it up for the Christian holiday that asks followers to give up an item or two for a period of six weeks.

The teams were competing against each other to see who could make and sell the most meatballs. As part of the challenge, they also were required to present their meatballs on Live with Kelly and Michael for additional prize money.

Cornelia Guest, who was playing for the Humane Society of New York, failed to impress the judges with her stuffed portabello mushrooms and couscous and ended up in the bottom two.

The Blind Taste Test didn’t go as well as expected either.
