Bloomberg Nathan's Contest

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was caught celebrating the not-so-art of competitive eating at the recent Coney Island Hot Dog Eating Contest.

His action of cheering on the consumption of over 60 hot dogs in a day and even stuffing his own face with one did not by any means undermine his strong stance on keeping New Yorkers healthy, as the New York Daily News mentions he, “did not wash it down with a big soda.”

Thank goodness.

The Chinese Women’s Volleyball team has decided to eliminate meat from its training diet, due to concerns of consuming meat products contains chemicals that would make them test positive for doping.

The main ingredient of concern is clenbuterol, a drug given to livestock animals that results in leaner meat, but is banned by Olympic committees.

The athletes say the vegetarian diet they’ve been following as an alternative is causing poor performance.

“They have showed significant decline in their strength and fitness,” coach Yu Juemin said.

Al Sharpton

The Reverend Al Sharpton announced last year he’d gone meatless. But we had no idea how much this benefited him. Sharpton lost 130 pounds from the vegetarian diet he adopted in 2010. He cites vegan former president of the United States Bill Clinton as an inspiration for the change.

“It was about two years ago that I finally decided to take all the weight off again, and so I cut the starches, the meat, and I even gave up chicken. I was a chicken junkie. I used to eat chicken three times a day. I have gone from a weight of 214 pounds to my current weight of 167 pounds.”
