Mike Tyson joins his family for dinner at Mr Chow in West Hollywood

Did Mike Tyson go vegan to get PETA off his back for racing pigeons in the new Animal Planet show, Take On Tyson?

A poll currently underway at the Huffington Post says “no,” with plenty of comments and opinions.

“The vagan [sic] crowd here on huffpost needs to go watch a few interviews with this man, and then come back and retake the poll. This guy doesn’t give a hoot about anybody but himself.”

“Go vegan, for any reason at all, and you will make the world a better place.”

And our favorite…

“Damn let the man be a vegan.”

Gene Stone

Gene Stone, an accomplished writer and businessman who’s trophies include Esquire editor and co-founder of vegan ice cream shop Stogo, allowed Supervegan into a glimpse of what life was like collaborating with Rip Esselstyn and writing The Engine 2 Diet, a book about a fire fighter who helped his station extinguish cholesterol and extra pounds by putting out meat.

Stone didn’t expect to have much in common with the Texan vegan, except for the fact they both shunned meat.

“I didn’t expect he would be liberal (politically),” Stone said. “I also didn’t expect we would have similar senses of humor and really enjoy hanging out with each other as much as we do. I’ve become very good friends with several other members of his family as well. In the summer, I go up to the Esselstyn family farm near Hudson and spend a weekend in vegan paradise, where two dozen or so Esselstyns gather and there’s nothing but incredible plant-based food everywhere, all the time.”

Getting along great with Esselstyn wasn’t the only surprise Stone experienced during his ghostwriting project for The Engine 2 Diet.

Originally, Stone became vegan to write the book, but found it impossible to go back to eggs, cheese and other dairy after it’s completion.

Joan Jett took time to talk with gossip site PopEater in between passing out Vegetarian Starter Kits in NYC’s Union Square earlier this month.

The five foot five inches rocker looks toned and more sculpted than ever, but says the feeling she got from eating meat made her feel like a balloon.

“I didn’t feel good eating meat. It felt very heavy, like it never left my body,” Jett says in the video.

“Being on stage, I didn’t want to feel [that heavy feeling], so I stopped eating meat initially for that reason,” she continued, adding that eventually her concern for animals sealed the decision.

SHREK FOREVER AFTER MOVIE PREMIERE AT THE GIBSON AMPHITHEATRE AT UNIVERSAL CITY. LOS ANGEL

If you had any hope that Cameron Diaz was going back to being a vegetarian, those dreams are about to be squashed.

The Shrek actress told SELF she went back to eating pork because it tasted so “damned good.”

If you prefer to get jiggy with a piggy, there’s no better time than now to explore the options of fake bacon, as there are numerous damned good tasting meatless options out there.

Try the B.L.T quality of Lightlife Smart Bacon or the fake McMuffin qualities of Yves Meatless Canadian Bacon.

Whether you’re motivated by emotion or the rational, thinking either “Babe” or “factory farms and swine flu go together like spandex on hot bottoms (or maybe the last part’s not so rational), these alternatives should keep your cart clear out of the meat section of the deli.

British soccer star David Beckham sits court side to watch the Los Angeles Lakers play the Utah Jazz during Game 2 of their NBA Western Conference semi-final playoff series in Los Angeles

David Beckham and wife Posh Spice have been spotted shopping for produce!

According to the Daily Mail, a source told Showbiz Spy that David has been taking cooking lesson and making more home made meals for the children.

“He has been showing the boys how to make simple pasta dishes and they’ve all had a great time together in the kitchen,” the source said.

Sure hope David is buying organic vegetables to go with the whole wheat penne, as a new study shows children who eat non organic produce with common pesticides may be at greater risk of ADHD.

The study published in Pediatrics had researchers from the University of Montreal and Harvard evaluate 1,139 children, ages 8 to 15, for key compounds found in common pesticides, including the commonly used compound malathion.

ADHD rates were doubled among kids with higher than average levels of malathion.

The scary part is that the link between pesticides and ADHD seems quite plausible, given the fact the compounds are designed to damage the neural pathways of insects by interfering with brain chemicals and ADHD in humans has been linked to problems with those same brain chemicals.

The Beckhams may be onto something though.

Pictures at The Daily Mail show them hanging out near the organic spice section.

Go Vegan! is an art exhibit by vegan artist Jonathan Horowitz that’s currently on display at the Gavin Brown Enterprise, former home of a meat packing facility in Manhattan.

The exhibit features artwork, as well as pictures of vegetarian celebrities in different parts of the facility that housed dead animals for so many decades, the stench of meat is very hard to remove and is considered to be “part of the experience.”

Shaking, trepid stomached vegetarians, beware! This video may be the closest you can come to seeing the exhibit.

An old meat locker features a picture of a turkey being served at dinner, with the addition of blood splattered words and markings on it.

Horowitz’s work will be on display through June 19 at the Gavin Brown’s Enterprise on 601 Washington Street and Leroy Street in Manhattan.
