Alanis Morissette hosted a party for vegetarian cookbook author Anna Thomas recently, and the festivities included getting her hands down and deep into calcium rich kale.

Thomas is the author of Love Soup: 160 All-New Vegetarian Recipes from the Author of The Vegetarian Epicure, which was released in September of this year.

Thomas’s book contains recipes for a variety of soups, such as rustic leek and potato, minestrone, and tomato and fennel.

Love Soup, called “the most influential cookbooks in the history of modern vegetarian cuisine” by the Chicago Sun Times, is the handy guide you need for seasonal recipes to please palates at any party.

And it costs so much less than an appearance by Alanis.

Stella McCartney Leona Lewis Fashion Line A Faux

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 in Fashion, Female Singers.

Stella McCartney Switches On Store Christmas Lights

Ah, gossip.

No one ever said all of it was true.

As we speculated, Stella McCartney has informed the press that she has no knowledge of a fashion line collaboration between her and Leona Lewis.

“I’ve never heard anything about it – it’s news to me!” Stella told Grazia.

We have heard, however, that Stella is doing a Spring collection for her children’s line with Baby Gap and Gapkids.

Look for leather free spring wear for the little ones in March 2010.

Leona Lewis Stella McCartney Fashion Line

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, November 23rd, 2009 in Fashion, Female Singers.

Leona Lewis arrives at the 37th American Music Awards in Los Angeles

You learn to crawl before you walk and the latest tabloid news is that Leona Lewis will be collaborating with another vegetarian designer to launch her fashion line before starting one of her own.

According to The Daily Mirror, Leona and Stella McCartney were seen at a charity event together.

“Leona and Stella get on like a house on fire. They met at the recent Children In Need charity show at London’s Royal Albert Hall.”

“They are both vegetarians, don’t wear leather and are huge animal lovers. The line would be very animal friendly.”

Of course, if we had a dollar for every time a British tabloid printed a story that stretched the truth a little…

Judging from the sources, it looks as if Leona and Stella were just having a good chat.

Another source told the media Leona said:

“I’m on a mission. I’d love to promote a line of non-leather bags and shoes that are affordable. I think more needs to be available and not so expensive.”

“There’s so much I want to do. I’ve always wanted to have my own fashion line, and that’s something I want to focus on next year.”

Whether or not Leona and Stella are actually doing a fashion line together is questionable.

But based on Leona’s history of goal driven success and love for animals, we’re certain she’ll be at least starting her own.

Meatless Mouthful: Nellie McKay Activism Icons

Only Make Believe Celebrates 10th Anniversary - Inside

“I like [deceased animal-rights activist and actress] Sandy Dennis. I like how both she and Doris Day not only fight for animals in a larger sense but also took them in at home. I was just looking at pictures of Billie Holiday and her dog. I like the thing, or at least the idea, of doing things for some other creature or person. It’s a very noble idea. I’m not sure it gets you anywhere, but I can kind of dig that domestic scene. I like how [comedian] Dick Gregory started out focusing on civil rights and became an animal-rights activist. I like how Alice Walker not only fights for civil rights and feminism – which is a difficult blend to pull off because it’s the whole divide-and-conquer thing; everyone’s always trying to pit activists against each other or make it seem like they’re fighting separate or conflicting battles – but she not only fights for civil rights and feminism but animal rights, too. It’s great.”

Leona Lewis Can “Echo” Being Vegetarian Makes You Sexy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, November 15th, 2009 in Female Singers, Food & Drink.

Leona Lewis arrives at the MTV Europe Music Awards

Leona Lewis is about to release her sophomore album, Echo, tomorrow.

We know Leona will break her already impressive record of over 6.5 million albums and 15 million singles with Echo, but if all her success ended, Leona says she would be happy with just a farm and animals.

“That’s truthfully what I’d do. Be a horse lady, learn to give lessons,” Leona said.

Not surprising, given the fact Leona is such an animal lover, who won PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian Contest two years in a row.

“Yeah, well, being a vegetarian makes you sexy – what can I say? That was so funny. It’s promoting vegetarianism which is great, and I’m an avid believer in it so that’s all good.”

With talks of an eco clothing line and perfume in the making, this 24 year old is only about to get sexier.

Much like we brought you the vegan verses from Method Man‘s Blackout! Vol. 2, we’re excited to inform you Nora has the dilemma of choosing between a pothead or a vegan lover in Man of the Hour.

Though we were rooting for the vegan, we’re not entirely disappointed in the company she chose to keep–her album co star dog!

“It’s him or me/That’s what he said/But I can’t choose between a vegan and a pothead/So I chose you.”

Alanis Morissette “Health Magazine” December 2009

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, November 14th, 2009 in Female Musicians, Female Singers, Food & Drink.

Environmental Media Awards 2009

You outta know that Alanis Morissette has been following a mostly vegan diet after picking up a copy of Dr. Joel Fuhrman‘s book, Eat To Live.

Alanis recently interviewed with Health Magazine where she discussed her diet habits, including the fact she loves to put a pat of vegan butter on her popcorn.

“I love snacking on popcorn with balsamic vinegar, vegan butter, and all kinds of spices.”

Thank goodness Alanis has grown to enjoy good food, which is a stark contrast from her eating disorder teen years.

“As a teen, I was both anorexic and bulimic. I was a young woman in the public eye, on the receiving end of a lot of attention, and I was trying to protect myself from men who were using their power in ways I was too young to know how to handle. Disappointment, sadness and pain hit me hard, and I tried to numb those feelings through my relationship with food. For four to six months at a time, I would barely eat. I lived on a diet of Melba toast, carrots, and black coffee,” “I began recovering at 18, when a sweet friend confronted me.”

And like Woody Harrelson, Alanis discovered a vegan diet is acne’s nightmare.

“I rarely eat dairy. I’ll never forget my friend Woody Harrelson telling me I needed to get rid of the dairy in my fridge to clear up my skin. He was right. My skin looks great now.”

You can read Alanis’ full story in the December 2009 issue of Health magazine.

Mya heads to STK for dinner and then to Coco de Ville to perform her new single

Singer Mya lost 11 pounds after going vegetarian to slim down for Dancing With The Stars.

She’s one of the four celebrities still left on Dancing, but she’s abandoned the practices that got her so healthy and up to par for the competition.

“I am eating more protein now – I used to be a vegetarian!” she told OK! magazine.

Mya claims she’s craving carbohydrates and proteins–and that her meat-free diet was leaving her hanging.

“So I’m eating lots of chicken and beef. I splurge on carbs like mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, rice and gravy, bagels – the list goes on!”

This may make us not vote for Lady Marmalade.

You want carbs, Mya?

We’ve got your carbs!

Complex ones like whole grain pasta, oatmeal, bagels, and lentils.

And if you’re missing your chicken and beef, Chef Tal Ronnen would love to introduce you to the wonderful world of Gardein faux meats he uses so frequently in his cookbook, The Conscious Cook.

Mya may still dance like a 9, but we’re giving her diet performance a 6 today.
