“I am not a vegetarian, but I don’t eat meat very often. First of all, I don’t want to make any declarations like that. Look, If I’m in Cleveland at 3 in the morning and I’m hungry and the only thing I can get is a room service turkey burger, I’m going to get it. But for my own health, meat is probably not the best thing for me. I eat meat like people in the Middle Ages, only on feast days. I probably eat it maybe a dozen times a year or probably eat it maybe a dozen times a year or something. If that’s not good enough for the vegetarians, sorry.”

Never mind the published data indicating eating red meat, processed meat and dead animal flesh in general significantly increases the risk of developing diabetes in men and women. Never mind the published data showing vegetarians are less likely to have diabetes as the cause of death than meat eaters.

The American Diabetes Association has responded to Steve-O boycotting its fundraiser event because meat was on the menu, basically saying, “It’s cool. Meat’s not bad at all.”

Steve compared serving meat at the event sponsored by the American Diabetes Association to “serving alcohol at an AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meeting.”

Steve-O

Steve-O was one of many celebrities who attended premieres of the documentary that explores how a plant-based diet can prevent and reverse major diseases humans are facing such as diabetes and heart disease, Forks Over Knives.

Steve said he supports the film because it advocates the same lifestyle he does.

“I’m here because I’m vegan,” Steve-O said. “And I love it. I’m a big supporter of the vegan lifestyle.”

Ricky Gervais, who admits he’s not comfortable eating meat as much now that he knows about the conditions animals on farms endure, has finally started eating vegetables.

He’s 49.

Ricky Gervais Asks NIH To Return Chimps To Sanctuary

Ricky Gervais would like the National Institutes of Health to return several chimpanzees who were almost retired back to a sanctuary after being moved into a medical research laboratory in Texas.

Gervais was born in England, where licenses for experiments on chimpanzees were banned over a decade ago. Since then, several countries have followed this lead, including New Zealand, the Netherlands, Sweden, Austria and Belgium.

The event is an annual fundraiser for the sanctuary which is home to dozens of chickens, pigs, cows, goats and other rescued farm animals that are available to interact with and get to know during its touring season.
