Baseball and dogs are two of America’s favorite things.

It’s easy to see why the New York Mets knew their fans would go wild during September 9th’s game against the Washington Nationals, an event where some of the tickets benefited North Shore Animal League pet shelter.

Seen here is Mets’ pitcher Oliver Perez who has obviously gone to first base with his new four-legged friend named Sassy.

“Being a vegetarian helps me a lot. I recover quicker than I did before and I also feel like I have a lot more energy than when I ate meat. As for the transition, it was very easy. Of course I missed certain things like In-N-Out Burgers or tacos, but I still get things like protein from other things. I am not a huge believer in loading protein like some guys are. If I do eat it I get in brown rice or one of my sponsors, Vega Sport, makes a really good plant-based protein paste I use. The transition really was not bad and it would be something I would encourage others to give a try sometime.”

“One day, I just thought, if you see a bird with a broken leg, you really have the urge to do something about it and help the bird. Then, at the same time, you go to a restaurant and eat a chicken or something. It doesn’t make any sense.”

Patrik Baboumian, vegan bodybuilder and weight lifting champion who holds the world record for log lifts and overhead beer keg lifts. Baboumian was a recent guest at the Toronto Vegetarian Festival. A vegetarian since 2006 and a recent convert to veganism, Patrik didn’t have to research much to learn the good things a plant-based diet can do for body.

A little birdie told him so.

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson is quite fond of his tiger friend in The Hangover.

In real life, he’s just as enamored with the big cats and he recently said during an interview that he’s owned several of them and curls up with them in bed just like many do with a kitty from the shelter.

Only his kitty comes from a bigger shelter–at least the size of a sanctuary–and Tyson probably has to scoop much bigger things out of the litter box for it.

Below are a few highlights from the interview with Conan O’Brien:

“It takes a bit of a time investment. For some people it may be just two to three weeks. For others, who’ve been eating a typical American diet for four decades, maybe six, seven, eight months.”

–vegan triathlete Brendan Brazier, in an interview with The News-Press, on how long it takes to get used to a plant-based diet if you’re used to a steady one of meat and potatoes. When you finally reach the moment when seitan works just as well as steak, “it doesn’t feel restrictive,” he added.

Who else is vegan in the NBA world? Will you get ribbed in the locker room for doing so? Salley gave the full details to ESPN.

He Should Have Gone Vegan a Long Time Ago:
“Oh my God, if I was a vegan when I should have done this thing, man? I remember when I became a vegetarian and my game changed. I couldn’t imagine if I was a vegan back when I was playing. The thing about the NBA, any pro sport, is, guys don’t know how to take care of their body.”
