Perez Hilton Thoughts On PETA

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, September 19th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Authors.

Perez Hilton Presents Tour - New York

Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton was interviewed by justout.com, when he was asked what his thoughts were on the animal rights group People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

Perez thinks PETA is a lot like him. Read to find out why.

JO: You support PETA, which directly opposes biomedical HIV research; you also support HIV research and advocacy groups such as Keep A Child Alive. Do you personally oppose biomedical HIV research? Should the gay community support or oppose biomedical research?
PH: You know, it wouldn’t be fair to say I support PETA—it’d be fair to say I support some of the things they say, but at the same time, fuck—I eat meat and own some leather shoes. I don’t wear fur, though. You know, I’m a human being, and human beings are walking contradictions! I think we should explore all avenues for finding a cure for HIV and AIDS—and all diseases! Like stem cell research—I’m all for it!

JO: If biomedical research shouldn’t be opposed, why do you support PETA, who believes research should be stopped, and not another animal welfare organization that is pro-research?
PH: I don’t support PETA—I support some of the things that PETA does. I support that they’re kind of like me, in that they’re loud and sometimes obnoxious. Underneath that, a lot of the things they do and other things I don’t agree with.

Both Perez and PETA are loud and obnoxious?

LOL! Separated at birth.

Bob Barker Still Fighting Edmonton Zoo For Lucy The Elephant

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, September 18th, 2009 in Animal Issues.

TV legend Bob Barker meets fans in Los Angeles

Bob Barker is showing his animal rights love for Lucy the elephant at the Edmonton Zoo in Canada.

The vegetarian ex Price is Right host is calling for the zoo to release Lucy so she may live her remaining years in a sanctuary.

Bob met with zoo officials recently for the proposal.

“There’s very little agreement on anything,” Bob said. “One minute they say she’s happy and healthy and the next minute they say that she’s too ill to travel.”

“Before I go to my maker I would like to see Lucy in the sanctuary,” Bob added.

Bob mentioned that PETA had hired a high profiled Toronto-based lawyer Clayton Ruby to see if anything can be done through the courts to have Lucy moved.

The zoo’s veterinarian, Dr. James Oosterhuis, insists that Lucy’s current respiratory condition would make it dangerous to move her.

“Her current respiratory problems preclude any thought of moving her and in fact, it would be life-threatening,” wrote Oosterhuis. “It is my opinion that it would be unethical for any veterinarian to recommend moving her.”

Barker, along with animal rights activists and their veterinarians insist Lucy can only get better if she is moved.

Sir Roger Moore Tells Selfridges No More Foie Gras

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 17th, 2009 in Actors, Animal Issues, Videos.

Roger Moore Presents UNICEF 2009 Report

James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore is on a mission to get the UK supermarket Selfridges to take foie gras off the shelves.

He’s so passionate about his cause that Mr. 007 sent a letter to Selfridges’ owner, Galen Weston, offering to buy the entire remaining stock of foie gras if Weston agreed never to restock it again.

If you don’t know how foie gras is produced, it’s not a pretty picture.

Geese are force fed so much food their livers swell and it’s this organ that’s considered a delicacy to some.

Pigging out on fine food-good.

Pigging out when you don’t want to and being eaten afterward-not so good.

Here’s a clip with James talking about his top mission, with some graphic footage of how geese are force fed.

Late Steve Irwin Father Warns Against Kangaroo Meat Industry

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 17th, 2009 in Animal Issues.

Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin

The late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin‘s father, Bob Irwin, is asking China not to import kangaroo meat, as the industry is endangering the animal.

Russia has already banned kangaroo meat imports, and now Australia is looking to Asian countries to export the product, and is expected to start supplying China in the first part of 2010.

“Our kangaroos are in a position at the moment where you would describe their numbers as critical, I believe,” Bob Irwin said. “We are just trying to get the message across to China that it is definitely not necessary to eat kangaroo meat. It is unhygienic for a start and we would not eat their pandas, mate, so why should they eat our kangaroos?”

It is estimated there are 25 million kangaroos across Australia, but some conservationists argue that numbers are far lower.

Jon Gosselin Dogs Going Back To Breeder: Kate Gosselin Blamed

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Reality TV.

Jon Gosselin adjusts himself while out in his yard

While we’re on the subject of breed dogs, it breaks our heart to learn that Jon Gosselin is sending his German Shepherd dogs back to the breeder, blaming it on the fact that Kate Gosselin won’t take care of them when he’s not around.

Cause Jon never has time to care for his dogs while partying  it up with bikini girls at the pool.

There are two things wrong with this picture, the obvious being Nala and Shoka came from a breeder to begin with.

But for douchebag, Jon to just shirk his pet owner responsibilities and blame it on the ex?

We’re just not buying it.

What’s worse, Jon made a statement earlier to People.com that indicated the dogs suffered more punishment than having to look at Jon grab his crotch all day long.

“Those kids beat them up, climb on them, pull their tails, bite at them, drag them around and everything you can imagine not to do to an animal, they’ve done.”

Jon later said the statement was taken out of context.

Uh-huh.

Suppose we’ll get a statement later saying it was in the contract for the dogs to return to the breeder.

Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt Parents Of Breed Dog-Maltipoo

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Couples.

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag push her Playboy Magazine spread at LAX airport in Los Angeles, CA

The Speidis have expanded.

Don’t worry, they haven’t procreated yet, so there’s still time to convince them not too.

Spencer Pratt gave wife Heidi Montag a puppy for her 23rd birthday.

“I’m so excited today is my birthday,” Montag said. “Thank you God for every moment you have given me and blessing me with my wonderful husband!”

We’re sure the 9 week old maltipoo is cute as can be, but do you really find those things at the shelter?

The cross between a Malteese and a Poodle presents a nice market for a breeder, but how many animals are waiting in cages to be adopted while the puppy factory continues its operations.

Here’s a directory where you can find animal shelters in your state.

We’re crossing our fingers Heidi’s puppy was at least a rescue of a designer dog abandoned.

After that, we’re crossing our fingers the puppy never has to watch Heidi’s Miss Universe performance.

Did Jenny McCarthy Influence Jim Carrey’s Swine Flu Comment

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 in Actors, Animal Issues, Couples, Food & Drink.

**RESTRICTIONS APPLY** Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy at the snowy photocall for A Christmas Carol in Cannes

A few months ago, we posted a comment Jim Carrey made about swine flu and pigs at the MTV Movie Awards.

“There wouldn’t be a swine flu if we treated the pigs better!”

Shortly after, we received a comment on the post from a “Meat McSausage,” mocking our theories.

“No. Who ever wrote this is a braying jackass. He said it as a joke. He could probably give a flying f*ck about pigs living conditions. And even if he did he wouldnt take it upon himself to say that during a speech at an awards show. Idiots”

While we pride ourselves on diversity at the Veg Star, we definitely don’t have any jackasses on staff.

Jenny McCarthy has recently announced she’s vegan.

Could Jenny’s diet change have been prompted by animal welfare reasons, especially after learning about the factory farmed conditions pigs are kept in?

And could Jim, who might not necessarily be vegetarian, also be thinking about where the food on his plate comes from and the ethics of eating.

Suddenly, we’re not sounding  like braying idiots after all.

Jenny and Jim got married, by the way.

Maybe a meatless union is in store for the happy newlyweds.
