USA Network and Vanity Fair celebrate Character Approved 2010 Honorees New York City

Gabrielle Anwar‘s not one to splurge on clothing, but when she did decide to treat herself, she took the ethical and cruelty-free route.

The actress told EcoStiletto she owns a pair of boots that were created with no animals being harmed.

“I’m not much of a fashionista, but I do have a pair of Stella McCartney thigh-high boots that aren’t made of leather—that was my big purchase last season. They’re so hot and I didn’t kill anything in the process.”

Gabrielle follows the same principles when it comes to her beauty routine, saying, “animal testing is out of the question.”

Gabrielle is truly beautiful inside and out, which is probably why she confesses to not wear any makeup unless she’s paid to do it.

Bonnie Hunt “Bonnie Hunt Show” Promotes Pet Adoption

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 1st, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues, TV Hosts.

58th Annual ACE Eddie Awards - Arrivals

Bonnie Hunt features a pet adoption segment twice a month on her daytime talk show, the Bonnie Hunt Show.

The animals get their own video promos on Bonnie’s website, along with their background information, which makes it look very similar to an online dating service.

Maybe that’s why Hunt’s adoption feature is such a hit.

From Tails Inc.:

“It is entertaining when you see all these dogs and hear their stories when the rescue people come out and say, “We found this one at the railroad tracks, and we named her this. She’s about 2 years old, and we don’t know her story.” They try to figure out the mix. And then you just see some great family with three kids come and pick up the dog. It’s great.”

Growing up, Hunt and her mother welcomed a slew of animals into the home, even though her father was a little apprehensive about it.

“My dad would say, “We can’t do this. Not another one.” And then he would love them more than anybody. That was the whole premise of those Beethoven movies I did earlier in my career, where I played the mom who was like, “We’ll take the dog and hide it from dad.”

Jorja Fox Backs End Dog Fighting Campaign

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 1st, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues.

Genesis Awards 2009

Jorja Fox is speaking out against dog fighting, backing a campaign by the Humane Society of the United States that aims to end the cruel sport.

According to Contact Music, Fox told People.com, “The more you know (about dog fighting), the less you want to know. It’s terrifying. When I heard about this project last spring, I called the Humane Society and said if they wanted help, to call on me. It’s a brilliant program.”

Fox said that although most people think of pit bulls as the only victims of dog fighting, other dogs are often in danger.

Fox said the program by the Humane Society works to help at risk youth realize there is greater value in owning an animal than having it partake in violent activities.

“Pit bulls are smart and healthy – they can do so much. So the organization works to get kids showing that off, and getting excited about that, instead of falling into the dark side. Dogs like Malteses and Jack Russell terriers end up getting stolen in communities where kids are dog fighting, used as training material for the pit bulls. It’s awful.”

Drew Barrymore Fussy Vegetarian Foodie

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, February 27th, 2010 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - Press Room

Drew Barrymore says it’s hard to please her on a dinner date because her diet makes her finicky.

“I’m a bit of a picky eater, but that’s because I’m a vegetarian,” she said, according to Contact Music.

But when Drew described her favorite foods as grilled cheese sandwiches, peanut butter sandwiches and macaroni and cheese, it made her seem like any other veggie woman who has to brown bag it everyday for work.

Drew’s favorite foods serve as perfectly good example that eating vegetarian doesn’t mean you’ll have a difficult time shopping for items at the grocery store.

For those that still want to play food diva, there are plenty of ways to jazz up a old fashioned comfort food meal.

PB & J on whole wheat bread or baguette? Why not try almond butter next time?

USA Presents The White Collar Shirt Bar

Tiffani Thiesen has fallen to the call of the cow and is blaming it all on her in utero growth.

She only has three months left until her first child is due.

At the USA Network and Vanity Fair bash in New York, she told People magazine, “I was a vegetarian for many, many, many years and all of a sudden I started to crave red meat.”

If that’s not enough to send a vegetarian mother into early labor, Tiffani revealed she had just devoured some animal before making her grand public appearance.

“Crazy enough, I had a steak before I left tonight and I would never have eaten one before. One day I just woke up and craved meat.”

Crazy, indeed.

One study published in Hypertension found children of women who consumed a diet high in animal protein and low in carbohydrates had higher blood pressure as adults.

Hopefully, in three months Tiffani will be back on the veggie wagon and little baby will never be forced to eat pureed beanie weenies when it starts to show some incisors.

Pamela Anderson steps out on to the runway in the A*MUSE by Richie Rich fall fashion show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York

“I think PETA is very positive and has accentuated my image. It doesn’t matter if It’s good or bad if it gets people talking and caring about important things. It’s a “now that I have your attention” kind of thing. (PETA) are smart, funny, good-hearted people who love animals.”

—-Pamela Anderson, during an interview on how working with the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals affects her image.

Something about Pamela definitely grabs your attention. Whether or not it’s her conversation on animal issues has yet to be determined.
