Lea Michele Dives Into Vegan Goodies After Long Day On “Glee”

The 64th Annual Tony Award Nominations New York

Lea Michele admits she’s not a party girl.

She not into substances and doesn’t go out clubbing and said you’ll never see her, “on a table at a bar, jumping up and down.”

So what does Glee girl Rachel Berry do on her weekends?

You just might find her having a ball with a bean and rice bowl and some acai juice.

She described her favorite way to relax after a long, hard day as getting the, “most delicious vegan food I can find, generally from Real Food Daily. I get kale, black beans, brown rice and tofu, with lime cilantro dressing and hot sauce. I’ll pour myself a glass of organic wine. I’ll watch the crappiest reality television, maybe take a bath or a shower, give myself a nice little face mask and go to bed.”

Yum!

And who says prudes don’t know how to party?

The People's Choice Awards 1998

Australian actress and animal rights activist Lynda Stoner thinks dogs and cats were meant to eat meat.

She feels so guilty about feeding animals another animal that she told The Scavenger she doesn’t think she can get another pet if it means killing one to feed another.

“Before my son was born I had three little dogs who were vegetarian (during my dictatorial years) and I must say they bloomed and flourished. However with our last dog I revised my views on denying him his natural carnivorous state.”

“Vowed I would not get another companion animal if it meant another animal had to die to feed my chosen one/s. Besides, the grief we went through when Lobo died was it for me. So my life has been blessed with the company of animals but I doubt I will go there again. Perhaps a rabbit…or two…”

The debate over whether a cat or dog can live as a healthy vegetarian has support on both sides.

The Vegetarian Society in the UK warns to exercise caution when feeding dogs vegetarian diets and says never allow a cat to go meatless.

And one vegan cat food brand, Vegecat Kibble Mix, was found to have multiple nutritional inadequacies, especially the much needed taurine for cats.

On the other hand, a 2006 study in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association found cats fed a vegetarian diet usually had adequate levels of B12 and taurine.

Maybe the key is to make and supplement it yourself.

Any experiences or suggestions?

Christian Serratos Salad Dressing Recipe With Sriracha Sauce

Star Magazine Celebrates Young Hollywood

Christian Serratos has a salad dressing recipe you should try tonight!

Judging from her description of the blend in the May/June 2010 issue of Vegetarian Times, the Twilight actress is not the measuring kind of veg cooking gal. But when it comes to spicy, taste is a subjective thing and you have to make your own adjustments.

“You can make your own salad dressing by mixing together some extra virgin olive oil with vinegar and a little sriracha hot chile sauce and a dash of pepper. It’s the best!”

Sriracha sauce is a Thai hot sauce made with chile peppers, vinegar, garlic, sugar and salt.

The sauce itself can go great on vegetarian sushi or pizza and may even be used as ketchup with a little extra kick on french fries.

Emily Deschanel Gives Two Cents On Farm Sanctuary

Bones 100th Episode Celebration

Hard to believe Bones will complete its fifth season with the finale on May 20th at 8PM on Fox.

Emily Deschanel and Bones creator/executive producer Hart Hanson spoke with journalists over a telephone conference about the show’s evolution over time.

Deschanel is never one to complete an interview with the press without letting fans know she supports vegetarian/animal rights issues, and she gave her thoughts on one of her favorite animal charities, Farm Sanctuary.

She discussed how the organization helped pass Prop 2 in California, which banned keeping certain types of farm animals in cages or crates, and how there’s a similar push in Ohio to get the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board to adopt standards that result in less animal cruelty, more of which can be obtained from OhioHumane.

“So they do political work, they do outreach, they do education, and they also are a sanctuary for animals, and it’s an amazing place to visit. If anyone’s ever in northern California or I guess it’s mid-to-northern California in Orland, California, and then Watkins Glen in New York, they’re beautiful places, and you get to know these animals that are incredible and you wouldn’t want to eat them again. So that’s my little two cents on that.”

2010 Lucille Lortel Awards Benefit - Arrivals

Saffron Burrows was a vegetarian for 25 years before landing a role in the 2008 film, The Guitar.

“As a kid, I felt you don’t eat anything you wouldn’t kill yourself,” Burrows told Backstage.

But her character Melody Wilder ate meat, and soon the line between character and self disappeared and Burrows returned to the steak.

So now that she’s eating meat again, does that mean weekend hunting trips?

A lot of words come to mind after hearing this, from disgusting to astonishing, considering the Law & Order: Criminal Intent actress had spent more than half her life not eating animals.

It’s quite easy to put fake meat substitutes in place of the real thing for the screen and it’s been done before.

Kal Penn‘s character Kumar chowed down on veggie burgers when he and Harold finally made it to White Castle.

And Lake Bell ate faux ham for Christmas dinner during Pride and Glory.

Maybe Bilson and mom ordered items like the Shiitake Mushroom Ravioli, a pasta dish stuffed with herbed cashew cheese and chickpea miso cream sauce.

Or did the two spice things up with a raw vegan chorizo tostada and radish cabbage slaw?

Ginnifer Goodwin "VegNews"

Ginnifer Goodwin is on the cover of the May/June 2010 issue of VegNews Magazine.

The magazine has titled this issue the “Big Love” one, and not just because of the actress’ hit HBO television series. There is also a section on vegan weddings!

Goodwin discussed the factors that led her to become vegetarian and her work with the Humane Society of the United States as well as that controversial cover shoot for W magazine where she wore leather.

“I had written the magazine, my publicist had talked to the magazine, and there was not going to be a way for me to do that cover without wearing the clothes they needed modeled, which of course made me uncomfortable because I was clad in all leather. I would never do a fashion campaign selling leather. I would never accept money to model leather.”

Goodwin took a lot of criticism from the vegan community for agreeing to do the shoot, which she says, “really did break my heart.”

“I took solace in Rory Freedman, a new friend a the time, who made me feel a lot better about the decision to have taken the cover over not having taken it as an opportunity to talk about the issues.”

Read the entire interview in the May/June issue of VegNews on the stands now.
