Henry Rollins Spoken Word Tour In Dublin

The election countdown has begun. Okay, so maybe, depending on how fanatical you are, you may have been counting weeks ago, but with less than a week remaining until a new Pres is named to take the helm in D.C., everybody’s getting their 2 cents in, including celebrities, during these last days.

Henry Rollins, who’s resume includes singer and songwriter, stand-up comedian, spoken word master, book author, band founder, and publisher put more than a few cents in to Time Out Mag on his political views, including the Republican “wealth trickles down,” theory:

“[Republicans]They like big business, they believe in the trickle-down theory, that we are supposedly going to eat the crumbs that fall from Caesar’s mouth at the big feast. I would argue that they have very good crumb catchers to make sure you get less and less. And so, I think the good sense falls with the Democrats.”

Instead of feasting on crumbs, Rollins stay healthy by juicing and eating a lot of soy protein. “I don’t eat red meat. I don’t eat pork, lamb or chicken,” he said.

Peta On Russell Brand: Vegetarian Blood Is Thicker Than Foul Mouthed Water

Russell Brand Resigns From BBC Radio Show

Russell Brand isn’t known for his saintly behavior or tact. Some might find it funny, but many find his antics and comments offensive. So when people found out he was on the cover of Peta’s Vegetarian Starter Kit, a flood of phone calls and email were sent to the organization by some who didn’t want him associated with the introduction to a meat-free life.

As if Peta wasn’t contraversial enough already.

The latest offensive act, which is the reason people are protesting his appearance on the kit, involved making an on air prank phone call to the home of actor Andrew Sachs.  The call involved leaving an answering machine message stating he, in words we’ll rephrase to keep us from getting blocked from “safe search,” had sexual relations with Sachs granddaughter. Go here to get the uncut version.

Brand was forced to resign from the BBC “Radio 2” show and issued an apology, but in a sarcastic way:

“I would like to take this opportunity to issue a personal Russell Brand apology to Andrew Sachs, the great comic actor who played Manuel, for a message Jonathan and I left on his answerphone, but it was quite funny.”

But hey, it was a joke right? Besides, they belong to the same club.

“The cover will have him on it because Mr. Sachs, who is also a Peta supporter, has accepted Mr. Brand’s apology, and that’s good enough for us,” said Robbie LeBlanc, Peta’s director.

Milo Ventimiglia Was Vegetarian In Mother’s Womb

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, October 23rd, 2008 in Actors, Videos.

Heroes Stars Meet Fans In Sydney

Milo Ventimiglia was eating vegetarian in his mother’s womb.

Something about that line just doesn’t sound right. But that’s okay because it’s actually a good thing!

Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Peter Petrelli on “Heroes” appeared on the Bonnie Hunt show a few days ago where he spoke about being a vegetarian all his life.

Milo jokes that he tells people he was a “vegetarian in the womb.” His mother was vegetarian while pregnant with him and his entire family was veg while he was growing up, including the dog (who he jokingly suggests had issues with it because he bit him).

We think he may have had a Joaquin Phoenix experience as well. He discusses that as a teenager he tried different things, see “what everybody was going crazy about,” which ended in “bad results” for him.

Watch the video for more. Word of warning: If you get a chance to meet him, don’t make the same mistake Bonnie did and ask him about dating co-star Hayden Panettiere!

James Cromwell states that in the largest factory farms, a pig is killed every 3 seconds.

Hmm…Should this be part of PETA’s campaign to educate Shane Victorino about where his Spam’s coming from?

Chrissie Hynde Joins PETA Protest Of KFC

School’s been back in session for a little over a month (in places where there’s summer break) and it’s time to show who’s made progress.

Sprig.com has graded the top vegan celebrities. Moby and Chrissie Hynde are serving as valedictorians, both receiving an A+ and no one got anything less than a B-.

The class consists of the following celebrity vegan pupils: Natalie Portman, Casey Affleck, Joaquin Phoenix (who only had one bad pizza experience, and it wasn’t in the school cafeteria), Russell Simmons, Alicia Silverstone, Prince, Shania Twain, Moby, Chrissie Hynde, Chris Martin, Pam Anderson, Andre 3000 Benjamin, and Tobey Maguire.

Oh, and of course, there’s plenty of school pictures. Only they look waaaay better than any of us did in ours.

—-Josh Hartnett, who although had such a bad experience with chicken as a child, that didn’t stop him from eating meat during the filming of the Black Dahlia.

Joaquin Phoenix’s Bad Mother #$@*!&* Pizza Experience!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, October 14th, 2008 in Actors.

Joaquin Phoenix was raised vegan by his parents and for the most part, never disobeyed. However, like many young adolescent boys and girls with much bravado, every once in awhile he rebelled and went against mom and dad’s teachings, dabbling in dairy here and there. One such rebellious act taught him an important lesson.

He was eating at a friend’s house and everyone else was having cheese pizza.

“They got pizza, and I was like, ‘I’m having some motherf**king pizza.'”

Unfortunately, it was the pizza that had him.

“I ate two slices and vomited for two days.”

This was his first and only experience eating pizza with dairy cheese on it. He actually craves salads and vegetables and doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth, which he says makes him a “parent’s dream.”

Well, maybe not always a vegan parent’s dream. But some youngsters have to learn lessons the hard way.

Moby, Tobey Maguire Give Props To Prop 2

YES! on Prop 2 Campaign to stop Animal Cruelty Event - Beverly Hills, CA

Several celebrities made an appearance at a fundraiser for Prop 2— a California state ballot measure that would outlaw confining crates and cages used in the factory farming of hens, veal calves and pregnant pigs. The measure is sponsored by the Humane Society of the U.S., Farm Sanctuary and other animal welfare groups.

Moby showed up to perform and Tobey Maguire put his two cents in as well.

“To me, it’s a no-brainer,” Maguire said. “I’m a near-vegan. I eat like a vegan.”

Ellen DeGeneres and her new wife Portia de Rossi were supporters as well, Ellen emphasizing that the move isn’t about taking care of animals, “It’s just making things a little better for them.” If you remember, the two of them provided their wedding guest with a completely vegan feast, including vegan red velvet cake.
