Hal SparksHal Sparks thinks factory farming is no joke.

During one of his comedic performances, Sparks made humor of poor diets consisting of too many animal products. But in an interview he reveals the effects of raising animals for food is no laughing matter.

“The biggest issue for me is factory farming,” Sparks. “Because I can’t find an angle on it–and I dare anyone else to–that actually supports it in any way. It doesn’t make food cheaper and safer. It doesn’t make the environment better. It harms the people who consume it as well as the people who process it. And it’s horrible to the animals.”

What’s Sparks’ advice for the dying individual who wishes he’d had more time to spend with the family? Watch the clip below to find out.

Ted Danson Praises Belize For Banning Trawling

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, January 19th, 2011 in Actors, Environment-Eco-Green.

Ted Danson

Ted Danson has praised Belize for its recent ban on trawling, the practice of pulling a fishing net behind vessels, in the Carribean waters of the country. Trawling, which is categorized by bottom or midwater trawling, depending on where the net is placed, destroys coral reefs and Botton trawling is considered to be the most destructive.

“One of the world’s smallest nations has made a monumental decision for the oceans,” Danson wrote at the Huffington Post. “As of today, Belize is one of the first countries in the world to institute a complete and permanent ban on trawling in all of its waters.”

Belize is home to the Belize Barrier Reef, part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the second largest coral reef system in the world after Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. These reef systems not only provide breath taking beauty for tourists looking to snorkel–they are a vital ecosystem of the earth.

Ewan McGregor is rumored to play Paul Watson in an upcoming film on the anti-whaling activist’s life, “Ocean Warrior: The Paul Watson Story.”

McGregor will portray Watson’s life during his earlier days of activism with Greenpeace and starting the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

Watson seems pleased with the film’s producer’s choice for him, as he wrote about it on a site about enviornmentalism.

“I think he will do a good job, although I would love to see long time Sea Shepherd supporter Christian Bale take the part. As for a leading lady my favourite actress has always been Sophie Marceau, but the choice is not mine unfortunately.”
