Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is coming to a theatre near you this month, but don’t expect to watch any real apes while you’re munching on popcorn.

The film uses computer generated imagery to create realistic images of animals without having to subject them to the potential stresses that might occur if they were actually on the set.

“We wanted to tell our story without using live apes for any number of reasons,” said director Rupert Wyatt. “It would be a cruel irony to tell the story of the exploited and repressed and use live apes to do so.”

Food Network’s Great Food Truck Race premieres on Sunday, August 14th at 10pm ET/PT.

As previously reported, this season’s race features a vegan truck ran by Nicole Daddona, Stephanie Morgan and Raya Belna.

“This truck came to life with a dream and a desire: A dream for vegan street food, and a desire to provide healthy, local food that’s convenient and fairly priced,” said Stephanie Morgan, founder of Seabirds. “Orange County is a great place to live, but it was lacking quality choices for those wishing to consume a healthier, plant-based diet. I started Seabirds because I wanted to make a difference not only in the lives of the people of Orange County, but in the world we love and live in.”

Seabirds uses organic ingredients whenever possible and tries to source from local farmers in its area. Below is a preview of what you can expect to see during the Great Food Truck Race.

Phil Collen

“I became a vegetarian at the end of the Pyromania tour [in 1984]. I wanted to do it for ethical reasons…I didn’t like the idea of eating slaughtered, tortured animals. The vegan thing was more of a health thing, getting clogged-up dairy stuff. Most cows who are still alive, and some of them have an okay life and are [milked] properly, they’re tortured as well—just slammed into these pens in these pretty nasty things.”

These beans are whipped into a puree in the food processor to resemble thick mashed potatoes and then seasoned with salt and pepper.
