Blake Griffin, Likely First LA Clippers NBA Draft Pick, Is Vegetarian

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports.

Pre-Season NIT - Championship Game

Oh, yeah.

It’s time celebrate another veggie athlete.

Blake Griffin is expected to be the first pick in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday.

LA is a great place for Blake to reside, since it’s practically the vegetarian and vegan mecca (sharing the title with NYC), so sounds like he’s on the right track, although he got a little side swiped recently.

During a pre-draft meeting, Griffin got treated to dinner at a steakhouse, of all places!

Dude, didn’t they check with the guy first?

We’re sure he practiced good sportmanship and ate his salad without too much sulking.

Cannot Buy My Soul The Songs of Kev Carmody

“For me, it’s more of a personal thing. I don’t judge any musician or nonmusician for living the sort of lifestyle that they do. I think it all comes down to conscience and making the decision for you and your life. Everyone’s at a different point of realization.”

“The first few tours I did, I was talking about [green issues] on stage. Then I just figured I probably shouldn’t talk about it every tour, so now I guess I’m just talking about it in interviews. It’s something I’ve been doing for quite a while now, so it doesn’t feel like news.”

—Singer, musician and songwriter Missy Higgins, in an interview with Mother Nature Network, on whether or not she considers herself an “elite” greenie.

Missy could count herself as being in the upper echelon of green musicians. Her biggest green move is being vegan. She also donated profits from her song, “Steer,” to the Sierra Club’s Two Percent Project, makes her tours carbon neutral, and performed at Live Earth Australia last year.

Davey Havok Is Ethically And Ethnically Handsome

DBTV: Davey Havok of AFI (1 of 3) from The Discerning Brute on Vimeo.

Davey Havok does a three part interview with blogger Joshua Katcher @ The Discerning Brute.

Part one goes into how a man can be ethically handsome. Davey misheard Joshua and thought he said “ethnically” handsome, which results in some laughter, since Davey is of Italian heritage and Joshua is Jewish.

“Having ethical beauty is something that is very rare in our world,” Davey said.

Davey stays ethically handsome by following a vegan diet and even has his own vegan clothing line.

“I am definitely, personally, an environmentalist by way of being vegan,” Davey continues. “If the world were vegetarian or vegan, the impact that it would have on the environment or biosphere would be far greater than if people stopped driving cars.”

Part 2 and 3 of the interview series go live Wednesday and Thursday at Thediscerningbrute.com.

Leona Lewis, Eastenders’ Scott Maslen Voted PETA’s Sexiest

Herve Leger By Max Azria Collection Launch Party

Leona Lewis has once again, topped the charts in the PETA Europe division of Sexiest Vegetarian, along with Scott Maslen from the Eastenders in the male category.

Leona was chosen as last year’s winner, and definitely hasn’t been resting on her laurels.

The singer is working on her own vegan shoe and handbag line, as well as a cruelty-free perfume.

“I am vegetarian so I don’t have clothes, shoes or bags made from leather or suede or any animal products. … I’m on a mission,” she said.

Actor Scott Maslen loves making a veggie spaghetti without the meatballs.

“My favourite dish is vegetarian spaghetti Bolognese,” he said. “I make it with meat substitute, it’s delicious”.

Sadly in life, there are winners and losers. Although everybody loves Leona and Scott, somebody’s favorite surely was defeated.

Which veg celeb were you rooting for?

Since Leona took it two years in a row, should there be politician term limits to let somebody else have the title in the future?

Paul McCartney Says He’ll Live To See 100 Years

McCartney Family Launch Meat Free Monday - Photocall

Paul McCartney is so confident his vegetarian diet will keep him healthy and disease free, he’s planning for his 100th birthday bash.

Monsters and Critics reported a friend said, “Paul has a hunch he’ll still be here to mark his 100th year. He leads a pretty healthy life with a strict vegetarian diet and he exercises regularly. He certainly sees 100 as a reachable target.”

Paul’s hunch is probably right, as recent studies have shown having your daily dose of meat, takes daily doses of your lifespan away, making you more likely to die from heart disease and cancer.

Although we’re not aware of any studies on it, we’re sure a veg diet gives you more strength to blow out all 100 candles when you reach the big day.

The CW Upfront 2009 Presentation - Americas Next Top Model

A recent episode of The Tyra Show had guests tasting a berry that supposedly altered your taste buds to make everything taste sweeter.

Maybe they should make a salad dressing out of this berry, because one audience member tasted it and said, “Well, I’m a vegetarian so hopefully this make vegetables taste better.”

Tyra quickly made another suggestion, however.

“Girl, pork will make vegetables taste better.”

Uh, no Tyra girl, you must have tasted a berry that’s affected your thinking.

As Vegdaily put it:

“Because pigs are more likely to carry worms and diseases, and because pig meat is high in cholesterol and saturated fat, pork will add illness and obesity to your vegetables. And I don’t consider either of these to be tasty.”

Besides, when was the last time you heard someone say they had a pork tooth craving? Enough said.
