Who Would You: Mark Ruffalo Or Moby

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 in Actors, Male Musicians, Male Singers, Polls/Surveys, Who Would You.

Mark Ruffalo is of Italian descent. Moby lives in New York’s Little Italy. Doesn’t matter where you’re eating, though, ’cause “When in Rome…” you can always adapt, unless you only have Shopska Salad to choose from. Most importantly, who would you..

Boo To Wu: Wu-Tang Weather Tech Boot Contains Suede

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 in Bands, Fashion, Male Musicians, Male Singers, Not So Vegetarian.

Giancarlo Esposito teams with Subaru to debut his new film Gospel Hill at the 2008 Democratic Convention

No thumbs up on this one, RZA.

Most members of the Wu-Tang Clan hip hop group are either vegetarian (RZA, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Masta Killa) or have been outspoken on animal rights issues in the past (GZA). So when the group collaborated with Fila shoes to produce a shoe with their name branded on it, the Wu-Tang Weather Tech Boot, you’d think it’d be cruelty free as well. No such luck.

Along with it’s “molded rubberized vamp, d-ring lacing system and padded ankle collars,” the Wu-Tang Weather Tech Boot contains an “oiled suede upper.” Boo to the Wu!

So while we were hoping RZA and his boys would follow the steps of other veggie metrosexual men and associate himself with a vegan shoe, like Frank Iero and his MacBeth’s, he’s let us down this time. This is even grosser than his veggie burger with fried egg on waffles.

Rise Against Concert Memorabilia Include PETA Pamphlets

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 in Bands.

When you go to a concert, you expect to be able to buy some CDs, posters, and a T-shirt if you have any money left over after beer funds have been allotted. If you go to a Rise Against concert, frontman Tim McIlrath and his boys will give you something for free: PETA Pamphlets containing information on going vegetarian.

“Kids are taking the time to do research on their own after they hear about us being vegetarian,” band member Joe Principe said, in an interview with Mercury News. “We want them to think for themselves, so it’s totally rewarding when they come to that conclusion on their own.”

The same types of brochures convinced Principe to turn vegetarian after reading some PETA literature distributed at a punk concert. All four members of the band Zach Blair, Brandon Barnes, Tim McIlrath, and Joe Principe are vegetarian.

Nicole Kidman Grows Own Organic Veggies

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

Celebrities Attend Australia Photocall

So lots of celebrities are changing their ways when they have children. Some are even going on the arguably extreme side, like Madonna and her dozens of rules for ex-hubby Guy to follow when the kids visit him.

But overall, celebrity mommies and daddies cleaning up their acts for the little ones is a good thing. And going organic is just one way to do so.

Take Nicole Kidman, for example. She grows her own organic vegetables. Gwyneth Paltrow has stated she prefers organic and natural food, which may mean the actress who claims to be vegetarian raises her own turkeys in her backyard, ha, ha. And couple Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have been spotted shopping for organic produce.

“I do holistic healing and health…I grow my own herbs, dry them and bottle them. I’m learning from trial and error as I go along. With my first child I made some mistakes with the holistic stuff. Puma my daughter she’s my second child, they’re both vegan vegetarians, organic babies from birth, natural births at home. I guess I’ve grown into being a vegan vegetarian.”

Paul McCartney Cooks Mashed Potatoes While Fighting Glovey

Celebs at Stella McCartney Fashion Show - Paris

Move over Gordon Ramsay. Paul McCartney has officially scored another point in the Ramsay-McCartney meatoff, showing he can cook too. And amazingly, he used no profanity. Not even during his fight with Glovey.

Watch the video showing Paul McCartney teaching you how to make homemade mashed potatoes his way-from scratch! He advocates using non-hydrogenated margarine because it’s healthier, but says the amount you put in depends on how “naughty,” you want to be.

This recipe is taken from his late wife, Linda’s cookbook. Here’s a link to a couple of other recipes from her book.

This can be veganized as Paul says you can use soymilk in place of regular milk. Pay extra attention at minute 4:00 when Paul gets into a scuffle with his oven glove, Glovey.

Vegan Moby Plays Secretary Of Steak In Vampire Film “Suck”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Australia New York Premiere - Red Carpet

Vegetarian vampires are the happening thing these days, and one vegan vampire wants to get his 15 minutes of blood sucking fame before the fad ends.

Moby, a vegan, is set to play the frontman for a band called, “Secretaries of Steak,” (vegan pun, ha, ha, ha) in the upcoming vampire horror/comedy film Suck.

Suck follows the adventures of a band not doing so hot, but still calls itself The Winners. Their luck changes when they happen to meet a vampire (in the real world these same creatures are called agents) who gives them a chance at rock and roll, as well as other kinds of immortality. Of course, there’s the inevitable blood cravings. The Secretaries of Steak are a rival band to the Winners. Get ’em Moby!

Other notables include meat shunning Henry Rollins, who plays a radio host, Dimitri Coats of the indie band Burning Brides as the vampire, Iggy Pop as music producer, and Alice Cooper as a blood sucking bartender.

Oh, yeah. Can’t wait to watch Moby get his vegan vampire on!

Gordon Ramsay Visits Vegan Restaurant Kitchen Nightmare

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 in Chefs, Food & Drink.

Gordon Ramsay has an on again, off again fondness for vegetarians, and he recently visited a vegan restaurant in Hollywood, Sante La Brea, that was in need of a makeover for an episode of “Kitchen Nightmares” which aired November 20th.

Before we get any further, we’d like point out a serious WTF flaw in the menu. Although they claim to be a vegan restaurant, they serve fish and chicken, something which confused Ramsay, to say the least. Don’t worry Gordon, this confuses us too.

Apparently, the restaurant offers many vegan options on the menu and any entree can be made such by requesting unchicken or tofu. However, there are items with real chicken in tofu sauce, which doesn’t seem to make any sense, but that’s probably one of the reasons why Gordon was there to rescue them.

Here’s the lowdown on what happened:

Gordon is fed a turkey melt, which he is not impressed with and feeds to a dog. Turkey, yuck! Good for him. But he didn’t necessarily have to insult the dog like that.

A plate of tofu with overcooked vegetables and overcooked, lumpy rice does not impress him either. “Shocking. My God!” he exclaimed. Rotten eggplant is just one of the many delightful wonders he finds in the kitchen refrigerator.

Humorous highlights include Ramsay playing a joke on owner Dean Hamoui by having the police handcuff him so he can’t do everyone else’s job, forcing the employees to learn for themselves.

It was a happy ending and Hamoui was quoted in Eater, saying the best thing about working with Ramsay was, “The fact that he fixed things up. There are plenty of problems that I wanted to fix, and when Gordon came he actually put the lid on all those problems—my sons straightened out, Mark [the manager] quit coming with crazy ideas. I needed someone to help me put it back on the map.”
