Vegetarian Star has not one, two, but FOUR COUPONS FOR FREE SOY MILK from Earth Balance, the same fantastic folks who’ve brought us vegan butters. Coupons for free stuff burns a hole in your pocket faster than money, so we’re giving you a chance to win one.

Earth Balance has recently debuted these exclusively at Whole Foods Market, so it would be a good idea it you lived near one. Know someone else who does? Package it up and give it away for Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa or any reason you want, cause they’re good through June of 2011!

Earth Balance soy milk is available in Original, Vanilla, Chocolate and Unsweetened. Here’s Veg Star’s take on the original. Ever drank your favorite vegan ice cream after it’s melted? Earth Balance’s soy milk fills your mouth with a smooth, sweet taste versus the chalky, bitter aftertaste some soy milks do. Not that’s it’s sugary sweet. And for those who are concerned with sugar, there’s always the unsweetened variety. Contest rules and more after the jump.

SAN RAFAEL, CA - FEBRUARY 17: A sign is posted in front of a Whole Foods store February 17, 2010 in San Rafael, California. Whole Foods Market reported a 79 percent surge in first-quarter earnings with a profit of $49.7 million, or 32 cents a share, compared to $27.8 million, or 20 cents a share, one year ago. Whole Foods’ CEO John Mackey recently told USA Today that the store will be unveiling a new, private label line next year that famous vegan firefighter and author Rip Esselstyn would approve of.

“We’ll introduce a private-label line in 2011 based on the healthy eating book The Engine 2 Diet,” Mackey said. “We’ve licensed that brand. It’s vegan (no animal fats) with no canola or safflower oils, and low in sugar and salt.”

The line offers products similar to what Mackey eats, but he insists that has nothing to do with its creation.

“Though that is the way I live, it is not my personal lifestyle driving this. We think it will be a good product category for the company.”

Looks like vegs will be ringing in the New Year with another option in good food.

“Meatless” Chronicles Indie Film Maker’s Journey From Flesh (Video)

Meatless The Movie

Meatless The Movie

When Miami-based surfer Shane Close decided to give up meat, he picked up the camera and added indie film maker to his CV of web developer and president of Surfrider Foundation. During his transition, he learned a lot of secrets of the obstacles some vegetarians and vegan face (like finding true vegan beer or whether or not to eat the sugar processed with bone char dilemma), but picked up some handy tips along the way, like having a better bathroom experience.

From Broward Palm Beach:

BPB: What physical changes have you noticed?
SC: Two things: One, I don’t feel heavy and sluggish when I get up from the table, and two, I am getting so much fiber I’m as regular as anybody could ever be. Sorry, I don’t know how to say that delicately!

BPB: Dude, that is too much information!
SC: Hey, whatever gets people’s attention.

Now that that’s gotten your attention, take a look at a clip of Close on his way to ask permission to film the vegetarian festival and feast at the Hare Krishna Temple in Coconut Grove, Miami for Meatless and learn about his blog below.

Dr. Oz must live by his wife’s advice now.

After he and Lisa appeared on The View together, the Mrs. revealed that although she’s been a vegetarian since age 15, it took a little nudging from her to get the doctor putting the right prescription for food in his body.

But he’s not vegetarian yet.

However, Oz is a big fan of a plant based diet, recommending a meat loving cowboy on his show go vegan for 28 days in an effort to cleanse his system.

Plus, he’s all about getting dirty when it comes to what you eat.

“The body is designed for whole foods — foods that come out of the ground,” Dr. Oz said. “And if the foods you are eating are not of that nature, eventually you can’t process them.”

Groundling foods include nuts, fruits and veggies.

And low fat items don’t grow from the ground, so don’t let their clean labels fool you.

“They have to put something else in place of that fat. Low-fat foods don’t grow on trees. And when they chemically modify food, it becomes a game for you and your mind can’t win.”

Heart healthy, cholesterol lowering olive oil came from the ground.

Low-fat margarine, buttery tasting weird substitute with ingredients and preservatives you can’t pronounce grew from the laboratory.

Sounds simple enough.

Kate Nash Vegetarian With A Thing For Cheeseburgers

The MOJO Honours List 2009 - Arrivals

Kate Nash has a brand new diet to complement this month’s release of her latest album, My Best Friend Is You.

Vegetarian, dairy and gluten-free isn’t always the easiest to follow, and although Kate feels super great, she misses her favorite friend the cheeseburger.

Plus, she’s annoying. From Shockhound:

“My diet has actually changed. I’m a really annoying person now, one of those people I never thought I’d be. Because I’m allergic to wheat and dairy, and I’m a vegetarian. But my favorite food is still cheeseburgers, which is really bad. But I do feel healthier, and I don’t get any weird wheat/dairy infections, so that’s good, too.”

Somebody tell poor Kate to stock up the tour bus with a Whole Foods 365 Vegan Burger and non dairy cheese.

In a blind taste test conducted by staffers at Vegetarian Times (May/June 2006), the 365 patty was chosen as the best vegan burger and was said to have a “hearty flavor” and “go good on a grill.”

If Kate doesn’t like it, maybe her new pet rabbit Fluffy, who she’ll be taking on tour in Europe and the UK, will.

Cleveland Cavaliers guard Anthony Parker took 21 fourth graders on a tour of a Whole Foods Market recently, teaching them the importance of good nutrition.

After the tour, Parker made vegetarian wraps with the students consisting of hummus, arugula, red peppers and carrots.

The students were randomly selected to spend the day with Parker as part of the Cavaliers’ Fit as a Pro program with Medical Mutual.

The program is designed to encourage physical fitness and good eating habits in northeast Ohio elementary students.

“As athletes, we have to eat healthy,” Parker said. “It’s important that it becomes a lifestyle, not a diet.”

“Whole Foods Market is pleased to join forces with the Cleveland Cavaliers to accomplish our 7th Core Value: Promoting the health of our stakeholders through healthy eating education,” said Whole Foods Marketing Specialist /Community Liaison Jared Earley. “Through a store tour, cooking demonstration and other interactive activities, students learned the fundamentals of nutritious and delicious healthy eating and discovered that ‘Health Starts Here’ at Whole Foods Market Cedar Center.”

Alicia Silverstone, Ellen DeGeneres Make Whole Foods Popular

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, January 10th, 2010 in Food & Drink.

Alicia Silverstone The Kind Diet Book Launch Party

There are numerous reasons why people are including more unprocessed foods in their diets, including the fact these foods are a cheaper, healthier and more gentle on the environment and animals.

But could Alicia Silverstone‘s cookbook The Kind Diet, Ellen Degeneres offering her recipe for vegan tacos and Alanis Morissette talking about kale have an effect on how the grocery budget is spent in the next few years?

Says a statement from prweb:

“Celebrities and sports figures are defining the trend. Well-known stars and musicians, including Ellen DeGeneres, Alicia Silverstone, Alanis Morissette, and Moby share their plant-based dietary choices. Athletes on a whole foods diet have a performance edge without steroids. A sampling of athletes sticking to a diet based on whole foods includes Brendan Brazier, ultra marathon champion, Ruth Heidrich, triathlete with over 900 wins, Pat Neshek, Minnesota Twins pitcher, and Salim Stoudamire, Atlanta Hawk’s shooting guard.”

Has a famous veggie influenced the way you cook at home?

Or is learning the Prince Fielder bats like a vegan news to you?
