The Whitney Contemporaries Host ARTPARTY

“I think that the only reason I don’t look like I’m a 130 years old after a lifetime of touring so much and living in hotel rooms, and drinking too much, is that I’ve been a vegan now for 22 years.

Normally friends of mine, when they wake up and they’re hungover, they go out and have bacon and eggs and smoke cigarettes. When I wake up, I have a smoothie and vegan burritos.”

Terri Nunn Of 80’s Band Berlin Sick Of Sick Meat

11th Annual Lili Claire Foundation Benefit

Remember Terri Nunn? Remember the 80’s group Berlin?

We have a diverse group of readers. Some of you might have rocked out with them. Some of your parents might have rocked out with them. Still, some of you may have been conceived to them.

Terri Nunn is the lead singer who sang the popular song, “Take My Breath Away,” (go ahead and have an 80s flashback and listen) on the Top Gun Soundtrack (which a very young pre-Oprah couch jumping Tom Cruise starred in).

She’s been a vegetarian since her late teens, turning to the lifestyle to cure what years of eating junk did that doctors couldn’t fix.

She has been named one of VH1’s Greatest Women in Rock and has been grouped with all the great female rockers like Joan Jett and Chrissie Hynde (who similarly don’t eat meat). Still taking everybody’s breath away after over two decades, she spoke with Las The Place not only about her CD coming out next year, but her feelings about how the government judges the quality of the meat that arrives at your supermarket.

“The main reason I don’t eat meat is because you find out in your studies that the factory farming of animals creates very sick animals. It’s so bad nowadays that the USDA no longer grades IF the animals are sick, it grades how sick they are. Isn’t THAT sick?…I’m thrilled about Proposition 2 passing here in California last week! That’s a healthy step forward, not just for the animals but for the people who eat them.”

“There are so many great soy products out there now, from hot dogs to meat substitutes. Even my kids like them!”

To learn about the fitness routine that keeps her looking like she did in the 80s, go to Las The Place to read the entire interview.

Still wearing fur? Maybe you should get yourself professionally evaluated, according to Leona Lewis.

“It’s such an old school way of doing things. I can’t begin to imagine that people who know all these animals have been killed to make a coat can still wear it. There must be something seriously wrong with them.”

Missy Higgins Chooses Vegemite Over Prawns, Shrimp Barbie Dolls

Australian vegan cutie Missy Higgins won the hearts of many in her home country; now she’s trekking across the U.S. winning American love as well. But just because she’s been living in the raw food hub of L.A. and becoming more Californian every day, she’ll waste no time reminding you she still remembers how they do it down under.

When asked by Blog Critics if she preferred a Vegemite sandwich or shrimp on a barbie, she responded, “Vegemite sandwich because I’m vegan and because we don’t call them shrimps, anyway, we call them prawns!”

Go Missy! Tell it like it really is! Also, thanks for telling them what’s the better option over both prawns and shrimp Barbie dolls or whatever.

Fun fact: Missy was the first girl to join the football team at her primary school. How cool is that?

Go here to read more, including how Missy thinks “koalas seem to have it pretty good…getting stoned on Eucalyptus leaves…”

Sarah Mair and Hugh Blair are two bloggers documenting their travel experiences at Tale Of Two Burghs. It was a visit to Edinburgh, where there is a restaurant called David Bann, where the waiter gave the dish on K.D. Lang’s favorite meal there:

“Damien asked the server what she recommended and she told us that her favorite– and k.d. Lang’s apparently— was tart of mushroom, spinach and Criffell cheese: wild and cultivated mushrooms cooked with wine, garlic and tarragon blended with fresh spinach and Criffel, a semi soft cheese from Dumfries, baked on homemade puff pastry. Served with baby potatoes, carrots and onion gravy. It did not disappoint.”

Lang once made headlines with her, “Meat Stinks,” commercials, which angered some members of the beef farming community. We’re not trying to offend, but how else should we put this? Meat stinks… angers…they say truth does hurt.

Lang’s latest album, Watershed, was released in February of this year and is the first original material she’s produced since 2000.
