You Be The Star In A Chrissie Hynde Video

Show At UK Music Hall Of Fame 2005

For all you gamers who think Rockband is your prized possession, here’s a contest you’ll wanna sign up for.

Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders are offering a chance for one lucky winner who also happens to be an animal lover to star in a music video lip syncing “Boot of Chinese Plastic,” the official fan video that will appear on YouTube, Pretenders, Apple Quick-Time, and PETA websites.

The contest is Chrissie’s way of both promoting her new song and standing up for her beliefs about how animals shouldn’t be used for fashion purposes.

The simple requirement is that you make a YouTube video of yourself singing the song (lyrics right here) and make sure you show your “plastic boots” sometime while on camera.

Runners up will at least appear on The Pretenders website and receive a limited edition vinyl of the latest album, Break Up The Concrete.

If you ever wanted to audition for American Idol, but didn’t have the guts to do it in person, here’s your second chance to do your thing in the comfort of your own home. Not to mention no evil Simon commenting on your performance.

Vegan Ambassador Hunter Burgan Was Also Presidential Candidate

KROQ'S Almost Acoustic Christmas - Day 1

The “crown” that AFI’s Hunter Burgan is wearing since he became Vegan Ambassador for MacBeth shoes might be a little too tight.

Burgan recently blogged about what his future duties will include as Vegan Ambassador, and claims he has so much experience with leadership, he was even a write in candidate for President in this past election.

“When I was first approached about this distinguished position, I asked myself, “Hunter, do you have what it takes to be an ambassador?” to which I replied, “Yes, I do.” As you probably already know, I’m no stranger to powerful political positions. I was the 8th grade student council vice president, so I think I know quite a bit about this type of thing. I also know for a fact that in the recent presidential election I received at least one write-in vote.”

“Another responsibility that I assume I have as the Vegan Ambassador is meeting with foreign diplomats about vegan matters. No one has said anything specifically about this, but since this is the FIRST definition that came up for ambassador, I’m going to assume this is also part of my job. There are still many countries that have not heard of Macbeth, or do not understand what vegan means. This is where I come in. I also play an important role in creating new and better vegan foreign policy.”

“Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to take the company jet to an important meeting with the Turkish ambassador to Chile. My plan is to convince him to make chili with tofu instead of turkey.”

Learn more about Hunter’s Vegan Ambassador duties on his latest blog.

Moby’s Ex Chef Amanda Cohen Nominated For Faux Foie Gras

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 9th, 2009 in Chefs, Food & Drink.

The Gothamist

PETA has thrown down the gauntlet to celebrity chefs. Come up with a vegetarian version of  foie gras and win $10,000.

What the heck is foie gras? Contrary to its spelling, it’s certainly not Astro Turf. Foie gras isn’t fake grass and there’s nothing fake about what geese endure after being so overfed, their livers swell, producing a delicacy that even some meat eaters are hesitant about eating due to the abuse issues.

Amanda Cohen, who recently opened a vegetarian restaurant called Dirt Candy, has a dish nominated by Fork in the Road:

“The portobello mousse at Dirt Candy is rich, earthy and intense, with a silky texture reminiscent of foie gras.”

Cohen was Moby’s first chef at Teany, a vegan restaurant formerly owned by the musician.

Of course, if you think you’re a star vegetarian chef waiting to be discovered, you can submit your recipe as well.

Lake Bell’s Favorite Vegan Restaurants

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 9th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

Lake Bell & May Andersen Judge

Like Pamela Anderson, actress Lake Bell has her set of favorite vegan restaurants. The vegan restaurants she visits when she doesn’t want salmon hors d’oeuvres.

What?!!! C’mon, we had to say that. Don’t boo us, she’s the one who was nibbling on Mr. Fishy at that party.

One of the L.A. establishments that tops her list is Vegan Glory, which, according to Bell, “They can be naughty, a bit fast and loose with the strict vegan standards but it’s fast food and it’s excellent.”

Lake Bell enjoys a restaurant that is loose with vegan standards? You’re kidding! Maybe that’s why she claims, “They know me by name here.”

Alright, alright, no more nastiness. Here are some other favorites: Hugo restaurant makes the cut ’cause the “vegan Caeser is to die for” and Good Earth’s not too shabby either.

See what other spots Lake recommends, which don’t only include restaurants, at LA Times.

Meatless Mouthful: Heather Mills’ Leg Injury Turned Her Vegan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 9th, 2009 in Meatless Mouthful, Models.

Heather Mills gets down on all fours doggy style in Washington DC

“In 1993 I lost my leg in a motorcycle accident, which is quite ironic because I had been working on the frontline for a number of years in the former Yugoslavia and should have probably lost it via the landmine — which a lot of people think is the reason why I lost it. Anyway it wouldn’t heal — the infection just kept going further and further up the leg and they kept amputating more and more, and I didn’t want to lose it above the knee.”

“So my girlfriend came in, and said she had healed herself on this raw vegan diet. At that time I was a meat, fish, lobster-eating girl. I was 25 years old and had no idea about real health with the understanding I have now, but wanted to heal my leg. So she said, “Come out with me.” So I went to Hippocrates in West Palm Beach and they put me on a raw vegan diet and wheatgrass juice and organic juice — mainly vegetable-based — and my whole leg just closed and healed within a matter of weeks.”

Jason Mraz Getting Rawer And Rawer

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, January 8th, 2009 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Nobel Peace Prize Concert 2008

The Best of Raw poll brought to our attention that vegan raw chef Ani Phyo swept several categories like Amy Winehouse took Grammies at last year’s awards ceremony.

However, we neglected to inform you that one of our favorite raw vegan men, Jason Mraz, took home his vegetable statue as well. Mraz was voted the number one raw vegan musician!

Remember, if you’re writing to congratulate him, do so on poop paper only, please.

We took a good glance over the list to see if there was any other celebrity we left out and we think we’ve got it covered.

But just in case we don’t, view the list yourself and see who else was raw enough.

Who Would You: Pick Your Fall Out Boy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 in Male Musicians, Male Singers, Polls/Surveys, Who Would You.

Singer Patrick Stump is for those who like submissive types, as he won’t even speak up to get a good vegetarian meal, settling for the mundane salad. Drummer Andy Hurley looks exciting with his tattoos, but truth be told, he’s just a non-eventful straight edge who likes to make up health drinks in his spare time. Blah! But still, which member of Fall Out Boy would you…
