Portia de Rossi Wants To Launch Vegan Shoe Line

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, January 18th, 2009 in Actresses, Fashion.

2009 Winter TCA Tour - Day 10

Portia de Rossi recently attended the Disney/ABC Television Group portion of the 2009 Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour where she announced she’s interested in starting her own vegan shoe line.

According to Fabsugar, Portia said she tries to wear leather as little as possible. Now she wants to make that even easier when it comes to footwear.

Not many other details were given, so we’re assuming the business plan is still in the draft phase and Portia hasn’t gotten her feet (pun intended) wet yet into the details.

But when she does, oh boy!

It was disappointing when Natalie Portman’s Te Casan shoes ceased production due to the recession, but with celebrities like Leona Lewis designing her vegan shoes and Portia dreaming big, your closet should be filling up again soon with awesome cruelty-free footwear.

Fingers crossed that Portia makes her shoes affordable as well.

Baby Cakes, where actress Lake Bell stocked up on all her vegan desserts last Holiday season, has given several vegetarian and vegan celebrities a sweet tooth so big they’re willing to put a few kind words behind the cookbook that’s coming out in April.

After owner Erin McKenna was diagnosed with allergies to wheat and dairy, all she really wanted was a cupcake, but unfortunately, couldn’t find bakeries selling products that complied with her restrictions. So she opened her own.

Now she’s sharing her secret recipes for vegan, gluten-free, and some even sugar free cupcakes in her book BabyCakes: Vegan, Gluten-Free, and (Mostly) Sugar-Free Recipes from New York’s Most Talked-About Bakery, set to be released in April.

It’s already getting rave reviews and kudos from some great veg celebrities, including Pamela Anderson, Natalie Portman, and Zooey Deschanel.

“I have multiple food sensitivities…and I’d pretty much given up on the idea that I might be able to have a worthy treat every again. I was so excited to discover BabyCakes NYC, because not only can I eat everything they bake, it’s all delicious!”
—Zooey Deschanel

“At BabyCakes NYC I can eat what I crave without harming my lovely animal friends–or myself. Every since that first fateful day, I’ve been waiting for this cookbook.”
—Natalie Portman

“Thank all that is holy for BabyCakes NYC…”
—Pamela Anderson

Radiohead Perfom At Victoria Park In London

Mirror, mirror, on the wall. Who’s the greenest of them all?

Vegetarianism and environmentalism go hand in hand. You really can’t discuss being eco-friendly without at least talking about reducing meat consumption.

So it’s no surprise that several known vegetarians as well as some rumored vegetarians have popped up on the Coventry Telegraph list of greenest celebrities.

There’s vegan Thom Yorke of Radiohead, who refused to play in Glastonbury earlier this year, because the city had poor public transportation and he and the band felt that was damaging to the environment.

Vegan Alicia Silverstone has long supported PETA, but also has her own organic vegetable garden in the yard of her solar powered home she shares with her husband.

Natalie Portman attempted to make things greener for shoe fashionistas by starting her own vegan shoe line and donating a portion of the profits to charity. Although Te Casan closed shop, she still leads by example, never failing to let the media know she’s vegan, and filmed a video for National Geographic about how replacing regular light bulbs with energy saving light bulbs would have the environmental impact of taking millions of cars off the road.

Read about what the other celebs that made the list, including Brad Pitt, Leonardo Di Caprio, and Jack Johnson are doing at the Coventry Telegraph.

Rodarte - Front Row - Spring 09 MBFW

The results of the 2008 VegNews poll are finally tallied and appear in the November/December issue of the magazine.

Natalie Portman won favorite vegan celebrity. After looking at this pic, wow, it’s not hard to see why. But in all seriousness, Nat’s not just a beauty on the outside. A Harvard graduate, actress, not to mention an eco-friendly business woman with her own line of Te Casan shoes. And she’s still single. No, we don’t have her number so don’t email us about it.

Other celeb winners included Shania Twain as favorite vegan musician. For the complete list of all favorite things veggie, including favorite vegan athlete Tony Gonzalez, follow this link.

Pam Anderson’s Vegan Foot Fetish: She Wants Her Own Line Of Shoes

Pamela Anderson arrives in Australia to promote her Reality TV series

Following the footsteps (no pun intended) of fellow veg sister Natalie Portman, Pamela Anderson is interested in designing her own line of vegan shoes. Since discovering one of her favorite pairs of shoes, Ugg boots, is made from sheepskin, she’s determined she and other vegetarians can do better.

“Like a lot of women around L.A, I always wore Ugg boots until I realized what they are made from,” she said.

“I don’t wear them any more. Instead I’m designing my own range of animal-friendly shoes. My goal is to make sure every mom in Malibu has a pair of boots that are not sheep.”

She’ll definitely have a vegan fanbase for the shoes when they eventually come out. And hopefully, with her celebrity status, many non-veg feet fashionistas will realize you can look great in your own (and not another animal’s) skin.

Natalie Portman’s Vegan Shoes Mentioned In The Luxist

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, July 18th, 2008 in Actresses, Fashion.

Te Casan Vegan Footwear Collection Launch Party

Natalie Portman’s name was dropped by The Luxist in an article discussing fashion ethics and Hollywood stars.

Portman has vowed to only wear vegan shoes, such as those by Stella McCartney. But she’s giving vegan foot wearers even more variety.

She started her own line of vegan shoes in February of this year.

We went online (and you should too) to view these and they are absolutely gorgeous and think they’ll satisfy the shoe fetish for all vegan (and hopefully non-vegan) women in the world who are adding extra closets to their homes to make way for the 100s they already have.

While we would never promote excessive consumption in any manner, if you are going to buy dozens of shoes, we recommend you take the “No Meat On Feet,” approach.
