The guys in My Chemical Romance prove that you don’t have to be female to show off your good taste in vegan shoe fashion. Call it cruelty-free, call it ethical, heck, even call it vegan metrosexual.

Macbethfootwear.com has a video of Frank Iero walking backstage wearing a pair of black/cement synthetic Leather Manchester shoes.

Macbeth Footwear carries a variety of cruelty-free, vegan shoes, and is currently designing shoes for other stars such as Green Day, Bloc Party, and Muse.

Another video in the series for Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine, “Do It For Someone You Love.” Kevin Eubanks, Jay Leno’s music sidekick and often the butt of Leno’s jokes makes sure his body is in tune every day just like his guitar.

Morrissey Plays Alexandra Palace

“I’d rather eat my own testicles than reform the Smiths, and that’s saying something for a vegetarian.”

—-Morrissey, to Uncut Magazine, on getting back together on stage with The Smiths, a band he and Johnny Marr, rocked with in the 80s. The band supposedly broke up due to a lot of bickering between he and Johnny. Bummer. They couldn’t even find their veg lovin’ as common ground to stay together.

On another interesting note, Morrissey, once responded to the opening of a new animal research lab by saying, “If you like vivisection, go and be vivsectioned upon yourselves.” Eating one’s own, uh, reproductive goodies, comes pretty close to that.

10th Anniversary Benefit Supporting Road Recovery - New York

Tom Morello is just looking to be a part of the club, but he technically doesn’t meat (pun, pun, pun) all the criteria. The former Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave member who now does his solo thing as the musical act The Nightwatchman, says he’s been a vegetarian (flexitarian) on and off since college (he’s 44 now).

But currently he’s eating fish (so that makes him a pescatarian?) and gives into the lust that many men can’t turn down: Breast. Turkey breast, that is.

“IVE BEEN A VEGETARIAN ON AND OFF SINCE I ENTERED COLLEGE AND READ A BOOK CALLED “ANIMAL LIBERATION” BY AN AUTHOR WHO’S LAST NAME IS SINGER. IT CONVINCED ME OF THE IMMORALITY OF PARTICIPATING IN EATING MEAT THAT CAME THROUGH THE HORRIFIC FACTORY FARM SYSTEM. WHEN I FIRST BECAME A VEGETARIAN I HAD NEVER MET ANOTHER VEGETARIAN AND DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO DO IT SO IT BASICALLY LEFT ME WITH SALAD AND CHOCOLATE AND FRENCH FRIES AS THE ONLY THINGS LEFT ON THE MENU. I BECAME VERY SICK. KIND OF WENT BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN EATING MEAT AND NOT EATING MEAT OVER THE COURSE OF THE NEXT FEW YEARS. I STILL EAT FISH REGULARILY AND ON THANKSGIVING CAN BE LURED TO EAT TURKEY.”

What the heck? If he’s eating fish, he’s not technically vegetarian and if he’s eating turkey, he’s still not pescatarian. Wouldn’t it be easier for him to just say he doesn’t eat red meat and tries to reduce other meat consumption?

Oh well. Paul McCartney called for Meat Free Mondays in hopes of getting everyone to reduce the impact of meat consumption on the environment even if they didn’t give it up completely. Morello is making an effort, even if it’s not the greatest one.

Someone should really show him the Tofurky section of Whole Foods next month though.

That Pesky Michael Bolton Eating Lobster Gossip

Lincoln Center's Annual Spring Gala Honors Robert A. Iger

Being in the business of celebrity news and gossip, we know there’s a chance that every time we publish something, there may be a tidbit or two that’s left out or somewhat incorrect as we get our sources from places that get their sources and the game of telephone is played.

But we do try to use good sense before hitting the “publish” icon in our blog platform. For example, if we read that Paul McCartney was standing on the corner, alternating bites between a KFC drumstick and a Big Mac, we’d know the story was full of you know what.

Soulful crooner Michael Bolton once was asked to name the silliest story he’s ever read about himself:

“That I was once at a party eating lobster and drinking champagne. They were trying to connect me with some woman, but for starters I’m vegetarian so I’d never be eating lobster.”

Yeah, Michael wouldn’t chow down on lobster or any Sebastian cousin for a woman. In fact, it reportedly “grossed him out,” to watch ex Nicollete Sheridan eat lamb chops.

What’s the next ridiculous material to be published? Gordon Ramsay turning vegan?

School’s been back in session for a little over a month (in places where there’s summer break) and it’s time to show who’s made progress.

Sprig.com has graded the top vegan celebrities. Moby and Chrissie Hynde are serving as valedictorians, both receiving an A+ and no one got anything less than a B-.

The class consists of the following celebrity vegan pupils: Natalie Portman, Casey Affleck, Joaquin Phoenix (who only had one bad pizza experience, and it wasn’t in the school cafeteria), Russell Simmons, Alicia Silverstone, Prince, Shania Twain, Moby, Chrissie Hynde, Chris Martin, Pam Anderson, Andre 3000 Benjamin, and Tobey Maguire.

Oh, and of course, there’s plenty of school pictures. Only they look waaaay better than any of us did in ours.

2006 MTV Movie Awards - Arrivals

Davey Havok and the rest of AFI got down on their knees to thank her backstage at a concert. Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst can’t do without his peanut butter mousse dessert. Jason Schwartzman and Emily Deschanel dig them, and Gwyneth Paltrow requested the sweet goodies for her daughter Apple’s birthday party.

So who is this woman who caters to the stars and what eats does she create that brings grown men to their knees? Danielle Konya, owner of Vegan Treats Bakery in Bethlehem, PA, has earned the devotion of many celebrity fans from vegan desserts she’s spent years crafting in her home kitchen.

With a combination of great taste, word of mouth, not too mention some articles about her business in well known publications such as Rolling Stone, the Washington Post, and The Onion, she’s been extremely successful at selling pies, cupcakes, sticky rolls, cookies, and even wedding cakes that are free of dairy.

If you want to eat vegan sweets like a star, you can view the list of restaurants in the East Coast area (New York, D.C., Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia) that serve her creations on her Myspace page.

Drew Lachey’s Magical Veggie Challenge For Kids

106.7 Lite FM Kicks Off Broadway In Bryant Park 2008

I bet years ago when you listened to 98 Degrees, you never imagined them singing, “Beans, beans, the magical fruit. The more you eat, the more you toot.” Hey, maybe if they covered that song, more albums would’ve been sold. Ha!

Now Drew Lachey has embarked on another solo project-this one involving getting kids and their parents to become more aware of healthy eating. It all started when the “Dancing With The Stars” winner noticed his 2 1/2 year old daughter, Isabella, is quite picky about eating vegetables. “She wants to eat (veggies), sometimes she doesn’t, (and) sometimes we have to sneak them in.”

That led him to start the Magical Veggie Challenge in which kids can rewrite the, “Beans, beans, the magical fruit,” song. The only requirements are that the songs be 1 minute in length and include the words “beans” and “veggie.” The winner will be crowned in New York City next year in February. Watch the video below and hear Drew explain how fatherhood, (to the tune of “The Hardest Thing” everyone) is the “hardest thing he’ll ever have to do.”
