Padma Lakshmi Eating Hardee’s Thickburger Video

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, March 27th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian, TV Hosts, Videos.

This is why you should hide the remote from your children at the end of the month folks.

Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi is shown here in her video ad for Hardee’s Western Bacon Thickburger, which will start airing next week.

Gorging on disgusting amounts of cow and pig (and who knows how many parts from each animal), former vegetarian Padma discusses how she’s “always had a love affair with food,” and her, cough, cough, “fond” memories of sneaking and getting a bacon cheeseburger before dinner in high school, devouring it, and leaving no evidence.

We tried to post this early so you wouldn’t throw up your lunch.

Padma may have swayed from being a vegetarian for her love of real meat, but y’all know there are waaaay too  many fake meats out there for anyone to use that as an excuse to go back to eating animals. You could re-create the Padma nasty burger with a completely meatless one.

What’s your favorite faux carnivorous product? Tofurky sausages? Lightlife Bacon? Chime in and let everybody know!

Padma Lakshmi Gives Food Porn Detail Of Burger Indulgence

Valentino: The Last Emperor New York Premiere - Arrivals

Update: For full commerical video, go here.

She just had to do it.

Not only did Top Chef  host Padma Lakshmi pose for a Hardee’s Thickburger ad, she wrote her disgusting food porn graphic descriptions of her “experiences” as a teenager.

Seriously, this stuff should be R-rated.

“I…started wolfing down bacon Western cheeseburgers after school at Carl’s Jr. The sublimely pleasurable taste of bacon…was further enhanced by its mingling with the barbecue sauce, greedily licked off as it dripped down my teenage fingers,” Padma writes in her latest cookbook, “Tangy, Tart, Hot and Sweet.”

It was such graphic detail of cow and pig devouring that led Hardee’s officials to seek her out for the campaign.

“When we found out Padma was such a fan of the Carl’s Jr. Western Bacon Cheeseburger, she was a natural fit to star in the television campaign for Hardee’s new Western Bacon Thickburger,” said Brad Haley, executive vice president of marketing for Hardee’s and Carl’s Jr. restaurants. “In many ways, she was the perfect choice for our ‘Young, Hungry, Guy’ customers because she’s beautiful, she’s a culinary expert, she’s beautiful, she’s very smart, and she’s beautiful.”

Wouldn’t it be funny to have a “Young, Hungry, Guy” campaign aimed at teaching about the risks of impotence from eating artery clogging meat?

On her experience doing the burger ad, Padma wrote:

“I think eating in itself is an act of great sensuality, so all you have to do is point the camera in the right direction. I was excited to be able to talk about a food item that I have fond, personal memories of. I grew up wolfing down Western Bacon Cheeseburgers at Carl’s Jr., as I said in my book. So, I was happy to be able to share that story with a whole new group of burger lovers.”

Hide the children, filter the television channel selections, as the ads start running at the end of the month.

American Idol Finalist Anoop Desai Had Vegetarian Past

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 in Male Singers, Not So Vegetarian.

American Idol Top 13 Party

What is it with all these folks coming over to America and ditching their veggie ways?

First, we were saddened to learn that Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi slowly started to eat “bologna” and “pepperoni pizza” as a teenager, then progressed to full blown Hardee’s Bacon Western Thickburger spokseperson.

Now, we learn a finalist on this season’s “American Idol”, Anoop Desai, was “raised by family of vegetarian immigrants,” but assimilated himself to become a “typical American kid who eats typical American food.”

Uh-oh. And you know what “typical” is.

One of his family members said, “But he has a lot of discipline, and though he enjoys food greatly, we have never seen him overeat.”

Desai was a lucky man after being asked to come back to the show on a “wildcard” in a previously unannounced 13th spot.

Maybe if he wins, he’ll get back into the club with Kellie Pickler, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, and the off the wagon, trying to get back on it Ruben Studdard.

Top Chef Host, Hardee’s Gal Padma Lakshmi Has Vegetarian Past

2009 Film Independent Spirit Awards - Arrivals

A very, very distant vegetarian past.

Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi is starring in a commercial for Hardee’s, advertising the fast food giant’s Bacon Western Thickburger.

Lakshmi has no problem chowing away on that pork and beef, but there was a time…

“I grew up a vegetarian,” Lakshmi told People. “Then, because I grew up in the states, I started slowly eating meat. First it was bologna sandwiches, or pepperoni on pizza. As a teenager, [my friends and I] would always go have burgers. I would scarf them down!”

Seems like Padma is just one of the many examples of those who immigrate to the US and unfortunately, adopt unhealthy diets  in addition to other American cultural practices.

Thickburger girl says she works out like crazy and doesn’t just sit around eating burgers all day, which is why she’s still able to maintain her trim figure. But Padma, really? How trim are your arteries?

The commercial was directed by Chris Applebaum, the same guy who brought Paris Hilton and a burger together for a 2005 Hardee’s ad.

It’s time a veg celebrity did a promo for some fake meat. What do you guys think? Pamela Anderson wearing nothing but a Boca burger? Ginnifer Goodwin with a soystache?
