“I started it a couple years ago as a portal for people to have access to inspiration, information goods and services. Whenever I learn something and I go “What? Why didn’t anyone ever tell me before?” I put it on there. It’s all information I get excited about and I want other people to know. It’s all based on ethical lifestyle choices.”

Daryl Hannah Vegan Thanksgiving Plan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, November 11th, 2009 in Actresses, Animal Issues.

Environmental Media Awards 2009

How do you plan to spend Thanksgiving?

Tortured at a relative’s house eating side dishes because they always fail to accommodate you?

Making your own tofu turkey for the first time?

Daryl Hannah plans to spend the day with a few turkeys, and we don’t mean foolish people either.

She’ll be at Animal Acres Sanctuary in Acton, California.

“They do an Adopt a Turkey day — rather than slaughter a turkey you adopt a turkey and feed it, and they have a nice, big vegan dinner too.”

Animal Acres is home to chickens, cows, pigs and all sorts of critters, but did you know they can also pronounce you husband and wife (or husband and husband or wife and wife).

That’s right, there’s no need for Vegas, because you can get married at Animal Acres and receive the assistance of their staff for set up and clean up, recommendation for vegan caterers and even a sanctuary tour.

If you choose the goat to be the best man, they cannot mediate family disputes.

Daryl Hannah Says “Jump In The Deep End” For Greener Living

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, October 26th, 2008 in Actresses, Environment-Eco-Green.

Quentin Tarantino And Fergie Celebrate Birthdays At Revolution

Central Florida Green Guide had the wonderful opportunity of interview Daryl Hannah recently. Sure, she’s an environmentalist, activist, outspoken veg gal who seems to be an overachiever when it comes to the above issues and it might be a little intimidating for the rest of use mere non famous mortals. No excuse, according to her. The easier way to get involved with becoming greener is to just “jump in the deep end.”

“I would say – go for it! Jump in the deep end! It’s great in here, and there are so many fantastic options available to consumers now that really work. Get the toxic cleaners out from under your sink and the toxic chemical detergents out of the laundry room. Buy organic food from your local farmers market. Change your light bulbs to compact fluorescents. Start a garden. Start composting.”

Going meatless is another way to get yourself greener. She became vegetarian after she realized she could no longer dissociate herself from the food she was eating.

“I became a vegetarian at age 11… and I just couldn’t gnaw on the flesh of creatures anymore. It grossed me out. The health and environmental benefits turned out to be a bonus! Often I find that when I do something from pure compassionate place, aspects I never considered seem to benefit as well – illustrating how we are truly interconnected to all life. The meat industry not only suffers from inhumane practices but is also complicit as the 3rd largest contributor to our global warming crisis.”

The EMA & E! Golden Green Party - Arrivals

The media loves to hunt for those that appear to be hypocrites. Deceiver.com has made an entire website out of this. So when a known vegetarian actress, supporter of bio-fuel, and all around green activist gal Daryl Hannah was spotted wearing a pair of suede shoes, of course the reporter had to ask.

“They were my mum’s,” she said. “I only wear leather when it’s a gift.”

There. All the (pending) rumors can be squashed.

Emily Deschanel Likes Gardein From Whole Foods

2008 FOX UpFront - Arrivals

More food voyeurism. What do the vegetarian stars like to eat? We found what’s probably on the grocery lists of Chrissie Hynde, Constance Marie, Dennis Kucinich, Daryl Hannah, and Emily Deschanel every week.

In addition to vegetarian pot roast, our favorite Bones actress likes Gardein, a wheat protein product that she says you can only find at Whole Foods. “It’s very tasty,” she said.

Constance Marie is really into veggie hot dogs, Daryl Hannah tries to stay away from fake meats because of soy isolate, but Dennis Kucinich loves his Tofurky`kielbasa’ and the vegan Gardenburger.

Singer Chrissie Hynde is probably the least picky to please: “I will eat whatever I am offered, providing no animals have suffered.”
