Kate Hudson was spotted grabbing a bite to eat at New York City’s Angelica Kitchen after filming on the set of Something Borrowed.

The vegan restaurant, like many well known eating spots, has a cookbook for those that can’t make to the Big Apple or prefer it DIY.

Not only does The Angelica Home Kitchen contain dozens of recipes for dishes like 3 bean chili with seitan and pumpkin pate, author Leslie McEachern also discusses the economical, social and ecological impact of our food choices.

When Gillian Jacobs moved from New York to Los Angeles to begin her career as Britta Perry on Community, she missed a lot of things about the Big Apple she couldn’t find in LA.

Like NYC’s Angelica Kitchen and its tofu sandwich.

Jacobs misses the sandwich so much, she told TV Squad it would be the number one thing she’d have her friends ship her across the country.

Note: The air travel from NY to LA totally cancels out the eco friendliness of eating a vegan sandwich, so hopefully she’ll only enjoy the meal when visiting home.

“This is gonna sound so boring and bizarre, but the thing I miss the most is this tofu sandwich from this vegan restaurant, and I’m not even a vegan. But I just really miss the tofu sandwich from Angelica’s Kitchen. I can’t explain it to you.”

The current menu at Angelica’s lists two tofu sandwiches, the “Sam or I” and the “Marinated Tofu Sandwich.”

Sam or I contains an herbed baked slice of soy goodness with marinated hiziki and arame, grated daikon, ruby kraut, sesame spread and lettuce between a mixed grain or spelt bun.

The marinated version contains a lemon herbed baked tofu with roasted vegetables, parsley-almond pesto and lettuce served on the same bread choices as the Sam or I.

The faux meat is a gateway drug to vegetarianism bald star Moby, who said, “I’ve probably eaten there 2,000 times in my life.”

If you start now, you could at least hope to tie Moby’s record at Angelica.

We got an exclusive tip that Rob Schneider was spotted at vegan restaurant Angelica Kitchen in NYC recently.

Months ago, we learned Rob would love to do a commercial for Hormel vegetarian beans and weenies.

Angelica Kitchen serves vegan food that’s a little more fancy than beans and weenies like Miso Soup, the Tempeh Reuben Sandwich, and Marinated Tofu Sandwich.

If you absolutely can’t do without your beans, there’s also a 3 bean chili.

Now you know you might see Rob there as well.

The Coalition For Healthy School Lunches fundraising event held at the Peter Max Studio recently was a hit, especially with the food.

Several vegan restaurants provided goodies, including Angelica Kitchen, Ayurveda Cafe, Candle 79 & Candle Cafe, Counter,  4 Course Vegan, Chef Laura Dardi, Live Jolly Foods, Franchia, Fran Costigan, Luxurious Vegan Desserts, Green Bean Cafe, Chef Yoli Ouiya, Payard Patisserie, The Power of Food, Rama Sushi, Sacred Chow, Slice the Perfect Food and Stogo.

Slice, the Perfect Food made their pizza topped with vegan Daiya cheese.

“Everyone absolutely LOVED our vegan pizzas with Daiya vegan cheese (thanks Bob and Julia for the help!) so the night was a success!”

Daiya won “Best New Vegetarian Product” at the 2009 VegNews “Best of Show Awards” during the Expo West Natural Products Trade Show.

Daiya vegan cheese is available in select food service establishments as well as  vegetarian food shops online.

“New York is a big, gritty city, but it’s also the easiest place in the world to eat well. Within a 10-minute walk of my studio, there are probably 20 vegetarian restaurants. My favorite is still one of the oldest vegetarian restaurants in New York: Angelica Kitchen, on 12th Street. I’ve probably eaten there 2,000 times in my life. I like the fact that it’s been around for so long; it doesn’t take credit cards and there’s still always a line out the door.”

Angelica’s has been feeding veggie New Yorkers since 1976, and features both everyday and special menus filled with delish vegan dishes like the Open Face Tempeh Sandwich, miso soup, noodle dishes and much more.

Potentially being able to spy on Moby makes another great reason to stop by.
