Art Of Compassion Gala

Country music star Emmylou Harris extends her activism for animals far beyond her plate.

She runs a dog shelter in her native state of Tennessee and performed at a Best Friends For Animal Society event designed to raise money to help four legged creatures in all sorts of ways, including getting them adopted.

Now, she’s teaming up with PETA to remind everyone to get their pet spayed and neutered and invite them in your home instead of keeping them chained outside.

You can listen to Emmylou’s radio PSA if you’d like, and be reminded that for some of us, respect for animals goes beyond deciding not to put them in our mouths.

Wolfgang Puck Catering Did Veg Dinner For Lint Roller Party

Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences Wine Preview

The relationship with the Veg Star and celebrity chefs has been a roller coaster lately. Love, hate, love, hate.

Awhile back, we hated Gordon Ramsay for his less than kind remarks about vegetarians and what he would do if his children became one. Then, we loved Rachael Ray for putting an entire chapter of vegetarian recipes in her new cookbook and featuring hottie vegan rocker Bryan Adam’s Juice Recipe in Everyday With Rachael Ray. Recently, Paul Deen made us steam when we found out she delivered 25,000 pounds of ham to a food bank.

But we’re feeling love again, thanks to Wolfgang Puck.  Puck’s catering company provided the vegetarian meal for the 15th Annual Lint Roller party, which several vegetarian celebs attended, including Lisa Edelstein and Emmylou Harris. The event served to raise money to assist in providing better treatment for animals, including helping getting rescue dogs adopted.

But this isn’t Puck’s first time around the veggie block. Last year, he created an Animal Welfare Program for himself and his 137 restaurants and catering venues, which consisted of various measures to support the humane treatment of animals and offer only all-natural and organic food.

Some highlights of the program were eliminating foie gras from his restaurants. Foie gras is produced when ducks or geese are stuffed to the point of where their livers swell 10 times the normal size. He also increased the number of vegetarian options on the menus and vowed not to use eggs from laying hens confined in battery cages.

He’s catered vegetarian meals for big events in the past, including a party in Beverly Hills that kicked off the 2007 Genesis Awards, which recognizes news and media organizations that produce work which brings awareness to animal issues.

Puck’s not the only one wanting to drink to the occasion. Thanks to the Wolf for bringing back the veg love for celebrity chefs!

Gourmet Veggie Dinner, Emmylou Harris Keys To A Fun Night

The 2nd Annual Women Rock! Girls & Guitars

Emmylou Harris will be performing tomorrow night to benefit the Best Friends Animal Society, an organization that serves to help four legged folks in all sorts of ways, including placing animals that were once considered “unadoptable,” into loving homes.

The 15th Annual Lint Roller Party will combine good music with good food. While enjoying her concert, guests will also be enjoying a gourmet vegetarian dinner.

Emmylou has several dogs and is a true animal lover, running a shelter where she lives in Tennessee. As a vegetarian, she won’t eat them either.

Awhile back, we told you how she wasn’t too fond of someone describing her like bacon-and saying she (as well as bacon) made everything better. Instead, she’d rather you tell her she’s like cheese.

Other bonuses at the event include an open bar, live and silent auction, and the opportunity to meet the cast of DogTown, a new television series on the National Geographic Channel.

Adjectives To Describe Emmylou Harris: Cheese, Not Bacon Please

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, July 29th, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

Although country music legend Emmylou Harris just released a new album in June, she’s no stranger to the music industry and has been praised by the media-even when the praises weren’t exactly the type she was looking for.

Washington Post music critic Josh Freedom duLac once said: “Emmylou Harris is like bacon. She makes everything better.”

“Well, I don’t know if I like that,” she told Straight.com, “because I’m a vegetarian.”

“How about cheese?” she suggested.  “Let’s say cheese.”

The 61 year old Nashville, TN resident lives with her mother and also runs a dog shelter.

Her latest album, All I Intended To Be, features collaborations with Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, and Kate and Anna McGarrigle.

“It encompasses all the different hats I’ve worn—songwriting, doing covers, working with so many great people,” she said. “In a sense, it was a return to a sound that’s been with me throughout my career.”
