Quantcast Vegetarian StarAlec Baldwin (4)

Z100s Jingle Ball 2007 - Show

Avril Lavigne has been known to go and make things complicated when it comes to her status as a vegetarian, but this really takes the vegan cake.

In her hometown of Napanee, Ontario in Canada, at La Pizzeria Pizza and Spaghetti House, there’s a pizza named after her. Avril was a regular there, eating lots of slices of mushroom, olive, and pepperoni pizza. Yes, pepperoni.

And although Avril has associated herself with being vegetarian, she still rides the roni when she visits home, according to pizzeria co-owner Bill Kosmopoulos.

“She still has pepperoni on it,” said Bill, referring to the pizza Avril eats when she stops by occasionally.

This story is sorta reminiscent of vegetarian Alec Baldwin joking around with the New Yorker saying he shot and smoked deer meat and ate it every morning. Only this story sounds true.

“In East Hampton, I’m a nudist and I eat meat,” Baldwin—a vegetarian—had said before my visit, expanding on the idea that he lived a quite different life on Long Island than he did in New York. “I shoot deer with a bow and arrow. I smoke the deer meat and eat it every morning with my eggs and toast. I am a homosexual. I listen to rock music, loud.”

Insert Avril’s name and change a few of the specifics and you get:

“In Napanee, I chow down on the pepperoni and live a quite different life than I do in the states.”

Stella McCartney Is A Force For Nature At NRDC Event

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 1st, 2009 in Environment-Eco-Green, Fashion.

Natural Resources Defense Council 11th Annual Forces For Nature Benefit

Stella McCartney was honored by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) recently at its Forces For Nature gala.

The environmental group honored both the vegetarian fashion designer who refuses to use leather in her products, as well as Discovery Channel chief David Zaslav.

Attendees at the event were entertained by comedians and dined on a vegetarian meal.

Stella’s proud papa, Paul McCartney was there with girlfriend Nancy Shevell.

“A love of nature has been instilled in [Stella] as she grew up,” Paul said. “But I don’t want to take any credit. She’s a smart girl. When she came in to the fashion industry, she came in to Gucci, which is leather city. I was really wondering how long it would be before she’d have to cave in to the economic pressures, but she just hung in there.”

Other celebrity attendees included Tom and Kathy Freston, Barry Diller, Diane von Furstenberg, Graydon and Anna Carter, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Ron Perelman, Zhang Ziyi and host Alec Baldwin.

Stella’s fashion line is quite successful, and the fact that more environmentally friendly attire is making its way into women’s closets is a bonus. And that’s just how Stella prefers it.

“I don’t want people to buy my stuff because they know it’s not leather,” she said with a smile. “I just want them to want the boots.”

Liam Neeson Ready To Move In With Horses: 5 Star Stable

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, January 26th, 2009 in Actors, Animal Issues.

When non veg celebs have word wars with veg ones, things can get ugly.

The latest heated debate is between Liam Neeson and several celebrities often involved with animal rights causes, like Chrissie Hynde and Alec Baldwin.

Hynde, Baldwin, and others have launched a protest against the horse-drawn carriage industry in New York, claiming the horses are mistreated, due to the long trips they make pulling heavy loads, cold and frigid weather conditions, and everyday spooks that are encountered from traffic.

Liam thinks all this is nonsense and equates the horse stables to the Hilton, in more or less words.

“Seriously. If you’ve ever seen these stables… I’d move in tomorrow,” he said.

A comment like this obviously angered PETA officials, who responded by saying:

“Liam, maybe you’re right, let me ponder this for a moment… It does seem like horses would prefer to endure the freezing cold and the panicky booms, noisy traffic, and exhaust fumes of the city over living in a lush pasture.”

“And you’re right, they probably much prefer the whips, shouting, heavy gear, traces, and lack of water in the troughs as well as the long shifts trudging for hours and pulling strangers in a half-mile circle all day without rest over living a natural life. Makes sense, right?”

There are documented cases of accidents and injury, both to the horse and human, in the industry. Has anyone out there had extensive experience with the horse drawn carriage industry? Do you feel horses are treated appropriately? Have you witnessed abuse and injury to the animals? Give us your thoughts!

Veggie Man Alec Baldwin Wins First Emmy!

60th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles

This man deserves a vegan, eco-friendly bowling bag!

Alec Baldwin has been what Susan Lucci was for Hollywood awards for a long time: Always nominated, never won. That changed a few nights ago when he won his very first Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for “30 Rock.”

Break out the wine and vegan cheese!

Baldwin has played both lead and supportive roles in several veggie films, including “Meet Your Meat,” PETA’s documentation of slaughterhouse conditions, hosting the premier of Blinders, a documentary on the negative effects of horse drawn carriages, as well as a public service announcement for PETA on behalf of animals used in the entertainment industry.

Congrats to Alec, and continue with the good work!
