Carrie Underwood Women's Health

“I am a vegan but I consider myself to be a practical vegan. If I order something on a menu and it has a sprinkling of cheese on top I’m not going to send it back.”

Carrie Underwood, in the November 2013 issue of Women’s Health. Underwood noted that it’s often harder for her to stay vegan while on the road with husband Mike Fisher, adding it’s a “cheesy world out there,” giving a trip to Italy as an example of where many foods contain cheese.

Of course, there’s always the option of asking the waiter to leave the cheese off, in Italy or any other part of the cheesy world

The Vegucation of Robin

“Generally, we’re not served veggies. But people like it. They will eat it if it’s put in front of them.”

Robin Quivers, in an interview with New Jersey Star-Ledger, on her vegan diet, cancer recovery and cookbook The Vegucation of Robin. If Quivers’ advice is true, then serving a dish like her Marrakesh-blend squash soup or Spicy roasted cauliflower with pimenton should bring a slew of returning fans to your kitchen and table.

“It’s made me feel great. I still feel young, totally healthy. I’ve fought in the sport for many years and I feel like it’s something that’s helped me tremendously. But I’ve never eaten meat, so I can’t compare the two and say, ‘This is what it does better.’ But all the people I know who have gone from eating meat to not eating meat say they feel much better.”

“Ending animal testing for cosmetics is close to my heart, and so is my bunny Melrose. Melrose is so gentle and loving with such an amazing personality all her own, it breaks my heart to know there are thousands of rabbits who are just as special suffering a terrible fate to test cosmetics. I would never dream of causing Melrose pain, but in laboratories around the world, rabbits and other helpless animals still have chemicals dripped in their eyes or spread over their sensitive skin just to test new lip sticks or shampoo. I want their suffering to stop.”

“It’s the saddest thing to know that rabbits can’t cry, which is one of the reasons these gentle creatures are used in painful eye tests for cosmetics. When I think of their unnecessary suffering I could certainly shed a tear, so I’m backing the Be Cruelty-Free campaign to see an end to animal testing in North America and globally. Show the bunnies some love and let’s end cosmetics cruelty.”

Owain Yeoman, for the Be Cruelty-Free Campaign with the Humane Society of the United States. Yeoman and singer Leona Lewis both issued statements on ending animal testing in cosmetics in honor of International Rabbit Day.

“You know, there’s a certain amount of grossness I guess to me, but I’ve lived for 20 years with people eating meat next to me and I have to be understanding of where they are and their choices if I want them to understand my choices. So I try to be tolerant and understanding. Yeah, it grosses me out on a certain level but i have become used to that I guess you could say.”

Emily Deschanel, during an interview where she was asked if she got “grossed out” by people eating meat around her.

Meatless Mouthful–Jane Goodall Parenting Lessons Among Chimps

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 12th, 2013 in Animal Issues, Meatless Mouthful.

Jane Goodall

“I learned the importance of contact, affection and play. Reassurance. And the importance of distracting rather than punishing when the infant is too small to understand, and then gradually teaching rules. That was the great thing about being out in the wild, he could spill his food—it didn’t matter because it was the forest floor. I see so many parents upset when the child spills his milk and wants to make patterns with it on the table. He’s not doing something wrong, it’s important investigation and exploration.”

Jane Goodall, to Mommy Greenest, on how different life was being pregnant and raising a child while she studied chimps in Africa. Animals and pets have been suggested to have many positive impacts on children growing up. It sounds as if the same can be said for parenting.

“Being a vegetarian helps me a lot. I recover quicker than I did before and I also feel like I have a lot more energy than when I ate meat. As for the transition, it was very easy. Of course I missed certain things like In-N-Out Burgers or tacos, but I still get things like protein from other things. I am not a huge believer in loading protein like some guys are. If I do eat it I get in brown rice or one of my sponsors, Vega Sport, makes a really good plant-based protein paste I use. The transition really was not bad and it would be something I would encourage others to give a try sometime.”
