Morrissey Denied Cooking Rights At “House Of Rules” In Boston

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 1st, 2009 in Food & Drink, Humor, Male Singers.

SINGER MORISSEY

How dare they!

Morrissey was performing at the House of Blues in Boston recently when he wanted to utilize their kitchen to make himself some grub.

They said “no,” proving even a celebrity can’t always have their way.

“You know what they said?” Morrissey asked. “No. People are just horrible, aren’t they?”

The singer wanted to cook some brown rice and peppers to take with him to his next stop at Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Because of this, Morrissey nicknamed it the “House of Rules.”

He was able to have workers pass out vegetarian info pamphlets in the lobby, though.

Does the House of Blues have strict rules about who they let in the kitchen? Or is it Morrissey they’re afraid to give a knife and skillet to?

A scruffy Jared Leto heads home after dining at West Hollywoods Katsuya restaurant

Jared Leto was spotted hanging out at LA hot spot Bardot and enjoying some late night vegan grub!

A source said the actor and rocker, “chilled in the lounge with a couple of buddies.”

If you recall us telling you, Leto played the role of spider rescuer at a party for Proposition 2 that Olivia Wilde attended. When a huge, black spider was aiming for musician Moby’s head during his performance, Leto didn’t hesitate to rush in and, instead of killing it, place it back on the ground.

Speaking of bars, how easy is it to find good vegan grub there? A bar in Hollywood may be more likely to have vegan fare, but everywhere else? Have you been able to find good veg food at 2:00 AM to munch on while you sip your vegan Heineken?

David Banner Likes Vegan Smart Cookie At Smoothie King

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 30th, 2009 in Business, Food & Drink, Male Singers, Restaurants.

G Star - Front Row - Spring 09 MBFW

Rapper David Banner has been on a quest to trim down and shape up.

After experiencing high blood pressure, the rapper born Levell Crump,  who took his stage name from the lead character from the CBS Incredible Hulk series, decided it was time to change his macaroni and cheese and fried chicken routine.

Although he hasn’t become a vegetarian, he expressed excitement over a vegan cookie sold at Smoothie King.

“I tell people is this: once you submerge yourself into healthy eating, I am willing to bet any amount of money that you will find the same amount of healthy things that you like and dislike. I don’t like every unhealthy thing in the world. I don’t like fried catfish. There are certain things I don’t eat. But in the healthy world, there’s the same amount of things that I like and dislike, there’s certain things that I consider to be sweet. There’s a vegan smart cookie that they sell at Smoothie King that I love, and I really can’t taste the difference. There’s certain healthy salad dressings that taste as good as the unhealthy ones, but you just have to take the time out to submerge yourself in that world to find those things.”

Awesome that Banner found out how great vegan cookies taste! Maybe his sweet tooth for vegan cookies will lead him to “submerge” himself completely in the veg life!

Rise Against Singer Tim McIlrath Praises Australian Pumpkin Love

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, March 29th, 2009 in Bands, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

KROQ Weenie Roast Y Fiesta 2008

Rise Against singer Tim McIlrath says the band likes touring Australia because the Aussie’s love their pumpkin.

“We love Australia, because Australia loves pumpkin,” said Tim McIlrath, in a recent interview. “In Australia they put pumpkin in everything. And pumpkin is great.”

Sure, pumpkin is delicious, but Tim likes pumpkin for another reason: It produces less greenhouse gases than meat, so praising Australia for its pumpkin love is a way Tim and the band can get their vegetarian message across to fans.

Besides passing out PETA pamphlets at concerts, the all vegetarian band never misses a chance to pipe for their cause while touring.

“Eating meat is one of the most environmentally damaging things you can do,” McIlrath said.

Aussie pumpkin love forever!

Earlier we learned Alan Donohoe of The Rakes had his butt covered environmentally due to his vegan diet.

However, the latest dirt on Alan reveals something completely contradictory. It seems he’s taken his pants off and exposed his butt on one occasion. But it was all in the name of animal rights.

Alan ran naked in PETA’s Running Of The Nudes, to help bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

Alan’s cute rescue kitty, Fritz, makes an appearance in this clip.

Morrissey continues to put the smackdown on meat products during his performances.

He recently banned all such products from a concert he performed at Webster Hall in New York City. Unlike Chrissie Hynde, doesn’t look like he offerred any “wheat meat” for compensation.

Vegan Bryan Adams Will Eat Well At Juno Awards Dinner

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, March 26th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Bryan Adams performs in concert in Ft Lauderdale, Florida

Like, fed to the tune of 100 pounds of mixed greens. Actually, Bryan will probably just have a nice helping of them that fills up a salad bowl or two, but hey, who’s to say he might not be really hungry on the evening of the Juno Awards banquet.

The Juno Awards highlight Canada’s best music performing artists. Besides the actual award ceremony taking place on March 29th, many “Juno” activities will be happening in the host city of Vancouver, including a dinner gala where hundreds of hungry musicians will meet up at Westin Bayshore Hotel for a dinner for the stars.

Celebs such as Sarah McLachlan, Nickelback, and vegan rocker Bryan Adams are expected  to be present. And it looks like Bryan will have a lot to chow down on.

“[In terms of] salad, we’ll probably go through almost 100 pounds of mixed greens,” said Executive Chef Kevin Doucette.

But that doesn’t mean Bryan will be munching like a rabbit for the big night, as they’ll be plenty of veg dishes to choose from.

Melanie Berry, president of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), which organizes the Junos, said, “There’s a fairly good number of vegetarians, too, so we want to sample those dishes because they are just so important.”

Not only that, Chef Doucette is thrilled to cook up meatless entrees.

“Coming up with vegetarian dishes is more exciting than anything,” he said. “It’s not on the set menu. It has to be fresh. And it changes all the time.”

Michael Jackson Exotic Animal Tour Not A Thriller For Animal Rights

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, March 26th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Male Singers.

**RESTRICTION APPLY**A huge crowd gathers to see Micheal Jackson after he watched the West End hit Oliver musical in London

Update: PETA received word that Michael Jackson DOES NOT plan to use live animals on tour.

You’d think after the butt whipping Britney Spears took for using live animals in her “Circus” video, celebrities would learn.

Michael Jackson may be a healthy vegetarian, but his decisions on animals aren’t so healthy for the four-legged creatures.

After rumors surfaced that he’ll be featuring live, exotic animals on stage for his comeback tour, animal rights activists began growling like tigers.

A source told the UK Daily Mirror:

“He hopes to make it the most spectacular gig ever. For the jungle section, he wants to ride out on an African elephant with panthers led on gold chains. Parrots and other birds will fly behind him. If it goes to plan it will look incredible.”

But PETA doesn’t think the show will be a Thriller.

In a statement issued to WENN, the group responded:

“These exotic animals belong in Africa, not the O2 Arena among screaming fans, bright lights and stage explosions. These wild animals are deprived of everything that is natural and important to them when they are forced to perform under stressful conditions. Michael needs to learn to leave exotic animals alone.”

Elephants, panthers, and parrots, oh my. If the rumors are true about the animals on tour, Michael better be waving “bye” to those plans or face much more harsh criticism soon.
