Joe Elliott Of Def Leppard Says Band’s Mostly Vegetarian

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, July 16th, 2012 in Bands, Food & Drink, Male Singers.

Joe Elliott

Phil Collen has long been the face representing Def Leppard’s vegetarian side.

But during an interview with NPR,  singer Joe Elliott reveals most of the guys actually eat a plant-based diet. That means everyone noshes on hummus and pretzels at those wild backstage parties with scantily clad groupies.

NPR: I imagine cause you’re on tour with Poison and Lita Ford, that these are really wild backstage parties, but I read that you guys are all vegetarians and you just go to sleep at 8:30.

JE: Where do you get your information from? It’s fantastic. I love that man. “We’re all vegetarians.” Well, for a start, we don’t even go on stage ’til 9:15 so going to bed at 8:30 is a bit of a non-starter. Two and a half of us are vegan — if that makes sense cause Vivian is a lactopescetarian, which means he eats fish.

Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney has backed a campaign by the Humane Society International to end animal testing for cosmetic products.

The HSI’s Be Cruelty-Free campaign calls for an end to cosmetics testing all over the world, something that has already taken place in Europe, with new laws set to be in effect in 2013 that will ban the sales of newly animal-tested cosmetics.

“The ugly truth about testing beauty products on animals is that it causes them unimaginable pain and suffering. If every cosmetic tested on rabbits or mice had a photo on the packaging showing these animals with weeping swollen eyes and inflamed skin, I believe everyone would leave cruelty on the shelf and go for the cruelty-free option instead,” Sir Paul said.

Billy Ocean On Why He Went Vegetarian

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012 in Food & Drink, Male Singers.

Billy Ocean

At 62, soulful British R & B singer Billy Ocean is looking better than some men half his age. He attributes this to the vegetarian diet he adopted two decades ago.

Add this to the fact that he runs every day, tends to a garden and avoids taking medications intended to promote “health” and you get a formula for someone who’ll likely see 20 more years of prosperity.

“When my mother died from ovarian cancer in 1989, it transformed my life. I looked at how she’d lived — an honest, incredibly hard-working woman — only to die just three years after I was successful enough to buy her a house and take care of her,” he said.

Bret Michaels Pets Rock

Bret Michaels has a collection of pet accessories now available at Petsmart.

The Pets Rock collection includes toys, beds, clothes, collars and leashes and feeding bowls, all displaying a rocker image, making your pet the baddest ass on the block because it eats from a bowl with an “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” theme.

Michaels said he was inspired to create the collection out of love for his own pets.

“In life, they bring me a certain peace of mind,” Michaels said. “There’s a sense of unconditional love I get from my dogs – or, as crazy as it sounds, my rats – being around me.”
