McCartney Family Launch Meat Free Monday - Photocall

Nothing like combining a cold glass of soy milk, fresh fruit, high protein nuts and a bag of potato chips.

Moby discussed the task of balancing eating healthy with eating junk food.

“When I’m on tour, I definitely eat a lot of comfort foods. Part of it is because you never know when you’re going to eat well again. So if you have the opportunity to eat well, you’re going to eat as much as possible.”

“At home, it’s that balance between vegan junk food and really healthy food. It’s like every now and then, lunch will consist of vegan tacos and then steamed broccoli and keen-wa (Quinoa) . I mean, they’re both relatively healthy, but…”

Moby’s favorite vegan junk foods are vegan tempura or onion rings.

What’s your favorite vegetarian junk to balance with an otherwise healthy diet of tempeh, brown rice and tomato soup?

Jason Mraz Gratitude Concert Began With Mystery Vegan Food Bowl

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, October 10th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Farm Aid 2009

Jason Mraz is set to give his gratitude concert tomorrow  October 11 in San Diego, a chance to thank his fans by selling tickets for as little as $1 and spotlight several local charities.

Jason’s tour, the Gratitude Cafe tour, is named after one of his favorite vegan restaurants, but there’s more to the story.

“On the menu they had a `gratitude bowl,’ a food item where you didn’t know what you would get and you could pay 50 cents, $50 or whatever you wanted,” Mraz said. “It was a way to practice generosity and humility, and get a big, hearty bowl of food.”

Mraz’s concert tomorrow was created based on the same theme of giving.

“So, I thought this would be a great way to end the tour and have a ‘gratitude bowl’ (for tickets), where people can pay nothing or as much as they want. People can come out to the venue early with their families and, if they want, check out the local charities we’re working with.”

As expected, the show at the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre tomorrow is already sold out.

"Meat is for Pussies" John Joseph

CRO-MAGS frontman John Joseph is set to release another book, Meat Is For Pussies.

“I’ve been a vegetarian/vegan for close to 30 years,” Joseph told Noisecreep.com. “It’s what keeps me healthy enough to play the music I play live, which is very physical music.”

Meat Is For Pussies will be available through punkhouse.org.

Joseph was motivated to write the book after witnessing several friends fall prey to illness. Plus, the lifestyle turned a would be hardened criminal into a mellow, intelligent artist.

“Getting into yoga, vegetarianism and philosophy saved me from a life of crime. I have also lost a lot of people to cancer, so I just feel obligated to spread the knowledge I have gained in the last 29 years.”

Joseph has already released his autobiography, The Evolution of a Cro-Magnon, about his struggles being moved from foster home to foster home and growing up on the streets of New York City.

With a background like that, John Joseph is anything but a pussy.

Moby Easy Vegan In Mexico City: Mas Frijoles, Menos Manteca

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, October 7th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Premiere Of "Is Anybody There?" - After Party

Moby arrived in Mexico City as part of his recent tour and said la comida is bueno!

“just arrived in mexico city. and just had tortillas y frijoles negros y guacamole. see, it’s easy to be vegan in mexico. well, as long as they don’t get crazy with the manteca.”

Yes, when in Mexico, pile on the heart healthy and fiber filled black beans on the tortillas with plenty of salsa and good for you fat avocado.

Just say “no, gracias” to the manteca, which is fat, many times lard in Mexican dishes.

If you can’t make it to Mexico City, you can at least make it to your grocer’s freezer, where you’ll find several frozen Amy’s Mexican entrees like Burritos and Wraps, or Black Bean Enchilada and Black Bean Tamale Verde.
