Leona Lewis Wants Affordable Vegan Fashion

2008 American Music Awards - Show

Clothing is expensive enough. When you throw in designer labels and aim to be cruelty-free the price jumps so much, it makes you want to take a sewing class and make your own.

Leona Lewis wants to change that and expressed her desire to do so to Sunday Express’ S.

“I love Stella McCartney – but her clothes are very expensive,” Lewis said of the eco-friendly fashion designer. “I think people need a more affordable option.”

“I’m trying to find the right companies to work with, sourcing different things and talking to creative teams.”

“I would love to promote an affordable line of non-leather bags and shoes.”

Leona Lewis Designing Leather Free Shoes And Bags

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 in Fashion, Female Musicians, Female Singers.

Glamour dinner party held at the Sanderson Hotel in London

Talk has been going on for the past several months about Leona Lewis having a cruelty-free, vegan fashion line in the works. Now we know what she’s designing.

According to the UK Mirror, she’ll be giving Stella McCartney some competition by offering a line of vegan shoes, as well as bags.

Lewis is a strict vegetarian and refused to perform at a Harrods department store seasonal kick off because the store sells fur. She even went so far as to say something was wrong with those who continue to wear fur despite being educated about the cruelty to animals involved in harvesting it.

Her philosophy on using animals for clothing is pretty simple: “I’m a vegetarian. I don’t eat animals, so I won’t wear them.”

And now, many of her fans won’t either.

Gourmet Veggie Dinner, Emmylou Harris Keys To A Fun Night

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 in Female Musicians, Female Singers.

The 2nd Annual Women Rock! Girls & Guitars

Emmylou Harris will be performing tomorrow night to benefit the Best Friends Animal Society, an organization that serves to help four legged folks in all sorts of ways, including placing animals that were once considered “unadoptable,” into loving homes.

The 15th Annual Lint Roller Party will combine good music with good food. While enjoying her concert, guests will also be enjoying a gourmet vegetarian dinner.

Emmylou has several dogs and is a true animal lover, running a shelter where she lives in Tennessee. As a vegetarian, she won’t eat them either.

Awhile back, we told you how she wasn’t too fond of someone describing her like bacon-and saying she (as well as bacon) made everything better. Instead, she’d rather you tell her she’s like cheese.

Other bonuses at the event include an open bar, live and silent auction, and the opportunity to meet the cast of DogTown, a new television series on the National Geographic Channel.

Vegemite eating Missy Higgins in her video “Where I Stood,” from the album On a Clear Night. After watching this…wow. No wonder Johnny didn’t mind having vegan dinner with his ex-girlfriend.

Chrissie Hynde Not Excited To Tour With Meat Eaters

12th Annual ACE Awards: Accessories Council Honors Fashion Influencers

Living in the UK has rubbed off on The Pretender’s Chrissie Hynde. Much like her fellow citizen Morrissey, she’s vegetarian and would prefer to share space with her kind.

“I would love to headline something, ’cause then I don’t have to share the catering with meat eaters,” she told Billboard.com.

“I love working with other bands, and I certainly don’t mind supporting another band. I don’t have to be the headliner; that’s never been an issue for me at all. I’m just more concerned about sharing the catering.”

See. Unlike other acts, she’s not a prima donna looking to steal the spotlight. Just looking for a meat-free buffet back on the rider.

Charlotte Ronson Runway Show

Lilo’s main squeeze, Samantha Ronson, like many other gay and lesbians in California, was not too pleased to hear that Proposition 8, which amends the state constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman was passed.

However, another measure, Proposition 2, which allows some farm animals to move around more freely, was passed as well. And that just pisses Ronson off. On her Myspace blog, an entry titled, “2 steps forward…2 steps back,”she wrote:

“i guess people care more about farm animals than they do their fellow man, that’s really sad to me.”

“yes, i am glad that the chickens will have more room and better conditions as they wait to die, but i just think it’s frightening that people show more compassion for tomorrow’s dinner than for the chef.”

“yup, miss piggy and chicken little may rest easy, but gay people in florida and california can no longer get married…”

In response, Peta has sent Ronson a letter asking her to understand the importance of Prop 2, and asking for her support as they continue to support the fight of discrimination against gays:

“Abusing animals is always wrong, and discriminating against gays is always wrong. We’ll continue to fight against the ban on gay marriage, and we hope that we can have your support in our efforts to eliminate cruelty to animals.”

Granted, you could understand Ronson’s anger. But is it necessary to take things out on Miss Piggy? Treating animals kindly says a lot about a society’s values and voting for Prop 2 doesn’t mean voting against gays and lesbians.

Hopefully, Sam will cool down in a few days and realize that progress in any matter takes time. It was time for Miss Piggy this year. And hopefully, it will come time for every oppressed and discriminated group to receive fair, equal, and compassionate treatment.

Westfield Shopping Mall - Official Opening Ceremony

Still wearing fur? Maybe you should get yourself professionally evaluated, according to Leona Lewis.

“It’s such an old school way of doing things. I can’t begin to imagine that people who know all these animals have been killed to make a coat can still wear it. There must be something seriously wrong with them.”
