–Sheryl Crow, on her new cookbook, If It Makes You Healthy, which she co-wrote with her personal chef, Chuck White. The cookbook happens to be vegetarian and vegan friendly. Inside, you’ll find recipes that call for soy crumbles and quinoa for protein, as well as vegan chocolate desserts. If you’re an omnivore who picked up the book thinking “healthy” meant lower fat cheese and leaner meats, don’t be afraid to try to veghead recipes. It just might be your Favorite Cooking Mistake.

Actually, it’s not bad at all. It’s very good, because many of Sheryl Crow‘s 125 recipes in her new cookbook, If It Makes You Healthy, are vegan friendly.

“I think when you say you’re vegetarian, it hits a button in people. Somewhere deep inside them, they go ‘Ooh. That makes me feel weird. I have to think about what I’m eating. That’s hard!’ But vegetarians can be painfully self-righteous. I’ve been a vegetarian for 30 years and I’ve certainly gone through militant phases where Chrissie Hynde and I have been like, ‘Fuck you, meat eaters!”

The last time we wrote about a singer crooning about veganism, it was Nora Jones who ultimately made the right decision because she chose an animal over some not so good man characters in her life–even if one was a vegan.

Poly Styrene, known for being the leader of the 1970s British punk rock group X-Ray Spex is back with a new album, Generation Indigo, and the vegetarian created a few friendly lyrics in ode to vegan shoes.

Listen for “I Luv Ur Sneakers” when the album hits the shelves in April.

Wynonna Judd knows the millions of cats and dogs waiting in shelters across the country want nothing more than to be “Loved By You.”

That’s why she’s teamed up with the North Shore Animal League America to launch the 2011 Tour For Life, a cross country trip done by the group to encourage pet adoption.
