TheBongoVirus.com New Years Eve Party - Arrivals

We heard that Australian pop dual The Veronicas, which consist of Jess Origliasso and her sister Lisa Origliasso were partying it up with Joel Madden at the TAO Las Vegas.

The Origliasso sisters were said to have dined on vegetarian fare before heading to the nightclub area.

If you recall us telling you, Jess, was incredibly interested in doing anti-fur campaigns and was spotted on the subway wearing a faux leather jacket that read, “F*** Fur” on the back.

It wasn’t noted what vegetarian status in limbo Joel Madden was munching on, but we sure  hope it wasn’t leftover Hamburger Helper.

Hilarious!

Chrissie Hynde is normally quite calm, but still opinionated when sharing her views on vegetarianism and animals.

We think all the excitement from one of her recent performance made her a little less inhibited.

In Toronto, Chrissie grabbed the mic and yelled:

“Meat eaters, go [expletive]yourselves.”

Fiona Morrow at theglobeandmail.com wanted to keep her column clean.

You can fill in the blank as to what you think Chrissie said.

Poor Chrissie had to say something after she smelled something coming from the barbecue stand.

Wonder why she didn’t just ban meat like she’s done before?

The Pretenders Perform In Madrid

“They torture these chickens. No one else is defending these animals.”

“If people are still going to McDonald’s, can McDonald’s stop torturing these beautiful animals that they’re making their profits out of?”

—-Chrissie Hynde, during recent protests against McDonald’s  in Utah for the way the PETA alleges the company slaughters its chickens, including having their legs broken, throats slashed, and scalded in de-feathering tanks.

PETA wants McDonald’s to switch to chickens that are killed via Controlled Atmosphere Killing-a process that cuts off the animal’s oxygen until it dies.

Have you driven down the street lately to find your favorite restaurant closed shop because of the bad economy?

Less bank money in the bank means more visits to your home kitchen, which sadly can force many businesses to make their last supper.

Luckily for Chrissie Hynde, the vegan restaurant she opened in 2007, The Vegiterranean, is still standing strong.

“We’re about breaking even, which is really good for a restaurant.,” Hynde said. “My only interest in it is the cow protection and also to bring life back into the downtown.”

Great food and word of mouth is what has kept her doors revolving and the ovens burning.

The Vegiterranean name is often dropped in the veg community for things like awesome faux chicken sandwiches, burgers that put beef to shame, and not to mention its superstar of a co-owner.

But Chrissie never intended to be a big shot.

“I always say I have no ambitions. But that is my ambition.”

McDonalds-PETA

Chrissie Hynde loves McDonald’s…NOT!

The singer has been mixing up some jams in her spare time and has come up with a parody to the fast food giant’s theme, “I’m Lovin’ It,” titled, “I’m Hatin’ It.”

Tomorrow at 12 noon at the McDonald’s at 242 S. 700 E. in Salt Lake City, Utah, Chrissie will perform her tune, as well as help pass out the PETA “Unhappy Meals,” containing a scary looking Ronald McDonald cutout, a brutalized plastic chicken, and a ketchup packet meant to stand for blood that urges McDonald’s to “Ketchup With the Times.”

“McDonald’s means McCruelty as far as I’m concerned,” said Hynde.

Every concert needs memorabilia, so “I’m Hatin’ It,” T-shirts will also be available.

Um, okaaaaay.

Courtney Love decided to get snuggly with a turtle and post the evidence of the rendezvous online.

Gossip blogger Perez Hilton wanted to make sure animal rights groups were aware of this.

“Are you seeing this, PETA?!”

Hilarious response, Perez!

But seriously, she shouldn’t be taking that turtle to bed.

It deserves a nice free life outside with grass, dirt and to mingle with other turtles, who, unlike Courtney, probably don’t have breath that reeks of alcohol.

Free range is cool for animals, but this isn’t what AR groups have in mind.

Erykah Badu Keeps Her Kids Veggie Schooled

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, August 21st, 2009 in Children, Female Musicians, Female Singers, Food & Drink.

Erykah Badu performs at the 40th New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival

If you’re a vegetarian kid growing up in a butcher shop neighborhood, how do you cope with being different?

Erykah Badu gave a recent interview with babble.com, where she explained how she gives her kids all sorts of yummy alternatives when they start asking about the “M” word.

“They joke about it,” Erykah said. “And I’m sure as children they feel left out sometimes. But that’s why we provide them with alternatives. We make sure we keep a school menu on hand, and we prepare the same foods the kids at school are eating but in a healthier manner. That’s what this lifestyle provides us with. I work really hard the way I do so I can give them all the things they need without them feeling like they’re being punished. So they can have a good understanding of what it means to be healthy.”

Erykah hopes these lessons of health will continue  as the children get old enough to make their own decisions about food.

“I don’t in any way force them to have the same lifestyle, but I think they should know the benefits of having a healthy body. If they were to choose to do anything else after they become high school students, I would have full confidence that they know how to take care of their bodies and themselves. By making sure they use preventive medicine — getting plenty of water, plenty of chlorophyll and vegetable juices and good, healthy rest and activity — I know they’ll be able to take good care of themselves.”

Chrissie Hynde Gives Lowdown On Zoo Show Cancellation

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, August 18th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Female Musicians, Female Singers.

Central Park SummerStage - Juliette Lewis, Cat Power & The Pretenders

Chrissie Hynde and her Pretender crew was originally scheduled to perform at the Minneapolis Zoo.

However, that show was canceled and the concert promoter cited numerous reasons for doing so such as crowd size and zoo curfew.

Now, Chrissie’s getting the chance to talk about how she really felt about the zoo show.

Psst. We think the cancellation had a little more to do with Chrissie’s values.

After asking people at PETA to research the zoo thoroughly, Chrissie learned some of the animals are eventually sold for slaughter.

Uncool. Very uncool.

From popmatters.com:

“That’s how I decided not to play there. I thought it would disturb the animals anyway. As zoos go, they have some really good policies. But I’m not zoo-friendly myself. I actually had people calling and complaining about it being at the zoo before I knew it was at a zoo. It wasn’t just me.”
