“I’ve always been anti-fur – I love my pets…and I could never see them being worn. It’s a very human time right now, and what’s the sense in more carnage? There are other things in life to celebrate and design doesn’t have to be draped with dead animals.”

—-designer Victoria Bartlett (pictured right), on her commitment to fur-free fashion.

Victoria recently partnered with the Humane Society of the United States to distribute anti-fur literature and buttons at her Spring/Summer 2010 runway show this past weekend as part of New York Fashion Week.

Jennifer Aniston at The Bounty movie set in Queens

Jennifer Aniston was snapped carrying this FEED bag while on the set of The Bounty.

The FEED bags were designed by the lovely Lauren Bush (niece of George W.), a lifelong vegetarian, environmentalist, and humanitarian.

Which is why we’re confused as to why the straps of the bag are made with leather. Maybe Lauren wasn’t aware of the materials when the bag was constructed. Or could she not be as strict with fashion and vegetarianism?

Lauren designed the bags to help support the UN World Food Program.

Pictured here, the FEED 2, will feed 2 school children in Kenya for 1 year when purchased.

Pamela Anderson Richie Rich “A*Muse”: New Zealand Fashion Week

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, September 12th, 2009 in Actresses, Fashion.

Pamela Anderson is the surprise runway celebrity in Richie Richs Blondes Have More Fun Fall/Winter 2009 Fashion Collection

Pamela Anderson will debut her animal and eco friendly clothing line, A*Muse, during New Zealand Fashion Week, September 22-25.

The designs she collaborated with Richie Rich were originally set to debut at New York’s Fashion Week from September 10-17, but Pamela set her sights on New Zealand for its green reputation.

Rich, who designed the Heatherette label, explained in more detail.

“Pamela is such an advocate for Peta [People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals],” Rich said. “I love animals. We wanted to produce a range using as many globally friendly fabrics as we could, in the spirit of being good to the world. That is part of the reason we want to kick it off in New Zealand, which is so lush and green. It goes with the vibe we are feeling. At the same time the Kiwi scene is fun and the line is fun.”

Rich originally admitted it was hard for him not to use fur in the collection.

Hopefully, with the guidance of Pamela, Rich now sees how easy it is to be chic and caring.

“The product/design has to be there first. At the end of the day, when it comes to fashion, people still buy the product first and then the story.”

—-Inder Bedi, founder of Matt & Nat, a vegan handbag business, on what makes their products successful during an interview with the LA Times.

Matt & Nat products have been given love by Ellen DeGeneres, and Jorja Fox has a Matt & Nat purse named after her.
