Heather Mills Spotted At Vegan Glory With Singing Daughter

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, April 4th, 2009 in Business, Children, Food & Drink, Models, Restaurants.

Genesis Awards 2009

Here at Veg Star, we go giggity, giggity, goo over celebrity sightings in veg restaurants.

The latest sighting comes from the Starwatch section of nbclosangeles.com.

Heather Mills was spied having a meal at L.A.’s Vegan Glory with daughter Beatrice and a “male friend” who we’ll assume is Jamie Walker.

Hmm…Does this mean Heather has talked the meat loving Jamie into going veg?

“They seemed to be in good spirits,” the source said. “Beatrice was singing all throughout the meal.”

Vegan Glory food sounds like a supper to sing for!

Montel Williams’ Daughter, Wyntergrace, Wants Veggie School Lunches

Healthy School Lunches

Healthy School Lunches

If you were vegetarian in high school, the best thing you could hope  for at lunchtime was a chance cholesterol fest fried cheese sticks were available in the Ala-Carte line. If you were vegan…didn’t everybody wonder why you were such a skinny kid?

Montel Williams’ daughter, Wyntergrace Williams, is partnering with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine to change that.

A vegetarian for three years now, the 14 year old even persuaded her mother to go veg (hello? Montel? What gives?)

In middle school, the lack of veg options made her want to go back to classes, so she urged the school to make additions to their menu. It worked. Now it’s time to work on Congress.

You can visit Healthyschoollunches.org and sign the petition telling congress students deserve more vegetarian and vegan items on the menu, including non-dairy beverages that aren’t soda pop.

Gabriel George, Sickle Cell Disease Poster Child, Is Vegetarian

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 30th, 2009 in Children.

SCDDA

SCDDA

Ten year old Gabriel George is the poster child for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America. Sickle cell disease is a red blood cell disorder that affects mostly people of African descent, but Hispanics and Caucasians can become afflicted too.

The disease can cause chronic pain, strokes and severe damage to organs, including the spleen, liver and kidneys and although many kids Gabriel’s age have already required many blood transfusions and suffered several strokes, he so far has been relatively healthy. Mom attributes this to prayer and his diet.

Gabriel is vegetarian, avoids junk food, and drinks plenty of water.

He plays violin, likes taking pics with his digital camera, and enjoys bike rides.

Recently, Gabriel, his mother, and other sickle cell disease advocates met with President Obama to discuss the disease.

Jennie Garth, Peter Facinelli Kids Like Tofu

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 2nd, 2009 in Actresses, Children, Couples, Food & Drink.

11th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards

Jennie Garth has an urban legend surrounding her much like Clint Eastwood did on his veganess.

The former “Beverly Hills 90210” actress and Dancing With the Stars contestant was recently interviewed by Energy Times, where she acknowledged the rumor, said she “hated eating animals,” but wasn’t a vegetarian.

“No, I’m not a true vegetarian,” she said. “I eat chicken and occasionally fish. I hate eating animals, but I have to get some protein in and the best way for me to do that would be to eat chicken or fish, although my kids eat tofu.”

“I don’t eat red meat.”

Hmm…You’d think that while she was sauteing tofu for the little ones, it’d be easy to fix herself a portion as well.

Heart disease runs rampant in the actress’ family and Jennie herself suffers from a leaky heart valve. While shunning red meat certainly helps her manage risk factors for heart troubles, there are numerous studies that show vegetarian and vegan diets prevent all sorts of diseases, including those that break the heart (physically).

Jennie is married to a “vegetarian vampire.” Her husband is Peter Facinelli, the guy who played Edward Cullen’s father, Dr. Carlisle Cullen, in the vampire movie Twilight

Wishing Jennie the best in managing her and her family’s health and hoping she has a tofu nugget or two to the replace the chicken ones she usually eats.

Obama Children Like Vegetables…If They’re Local, Sustainable

Obama Gives Fathers Day Speech At Sunday Church Service

Malia and Sasha Obama don’t always go for the green goodies, but according to Mrs. Obama, the closer the carrot, the better the V8. Or something along those lines.

She recently allowed the press into her White House Kitchen before a dinner to honor the nation’s governors where she praised local and sustainable foods, saying that if food is grown locally, “oftentimes it tastes really good, and when you’re dealing with kids, you want to get them to try that carrot.”

“If it tastes like a real carrot, and it’s really sweet, they’re going to think that it’s a piece of candy,” Michelle Obama said, according to the New York Times.

“So my kids are more inclined to try different vegetables if they are fresh and local and delicious.”

She hinted that one of her favorite dishes might be vegan-broccoli cream soup without the cream.

Mrs. Obama frequently discussed the importance of healthy foods, including those grown locally, while on the campaign trail last year.

Michelle Obama Likes Her Greens, Sasha And Malia Don’t

Michelle Obama Hosts DC School Children At White House

The White House chef is already spilling the beans on what the Obamas like to eat!

According to ETOnline, White House chief chef Cristeta Comerford said Michelle Obama can’t get enough of creamed spinach, but daughters Sasha and Malia aren’t as thrilled and don’t always like eating vegetables.

When referring to a green dish, Mrs. Obama will tell Comerford, “Sasha still didn’t like it … and sometimes [the] kids are like, ‘it’s green.'”

No, not even a weekly homework assignment of bringing vegetables to school is enough for Sasha to eat hers.

Comerford and other White House chefs are still working to please the Obama daughters’ palates.

Apparently, it’s going to take more effort than once thought to get more veggies for the children.

Tobey Maguire And Ruby Enjoy Real Happy Food At Real Food Daily

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 12th, 2009 in Actors, Children, Food & Drink.

**EXCLISUVE** Tobey Maguire spends some quality time with daughter Ruby Sweetheart and a friend in LA

If you crawl up buildings like Spiderman to stalk Tobey Maguire, then you should be crawling along Real Food Daily often, as this man never seems to get enough of it.

The actor who’s expecting another baby with his wife Jennifer Meyer this spring was spotted with his daughter, Ruby, and a friend picking up some food from the vegan restaurant.

Looks like Ruby had a ton of fun!

So awesome that little Ruby is getting to experience healthy eating with dad at such a young age. In a world where kids think a Happy Meal is one of the basic food groups, good to know Ruby’s growing up with the good stuff.

Andy Serkis Won’t Use Rings Of Force On Children

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, February 10th, 2009 in Actors, Children, Food & Drink.

Andy Serkis is one of those fish eating vegetarians (thanks to playing Gollum while filming Lord of the Rings in New Zealand), who used to be completely vegetarian, but like Diane Keaton, isn’t forcing the lifestyle on his children.

“We [he and his wife] tried to bring our children up vegetarian and it was fine until they start mixing with other kids and going back to the houses and having hot dogs,” he told Babble.

“Rather than kind of going “You’re not going to eat hot dogs,” we said they can wait until they can make their mind up and let them decide where they want to go. It’s kind of pointless to push them at this point. I know that there are great parents who are very good and manage that side of it well, but that’s not the way it’s gone for us.”

At least he and his wife won’t have to worry about raising any Aisha Tylers.

The actor plays a villain named Capricorn who escapes the fantasy world of storybooks and enters reality in his most recent movie Inkheart.
