Olivia Munn: Vegan Pizza Taste Like Poo

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, August 23rd, 2009 in Business, Celebrity Tweets, Food & Drink, TV Hosts.

(500) Days of Summer Los Angeles Premiere

Olivia Munn recently Tweeted about her experience eating vegan pizza.

The Attack of the Show! co-host doesn’t appear to have enjoyed the experience.

“Eating vegan pizza with Kevin. Note to self: vegan equals poo.”

We don’t know what Munn put on her pizza, but maybe it was the chef’s cooking  skills that were “poo,” cause vegan pizza is definitely delish!

If you’re looking to pop something in the oven for your quick fix, Amy’s Kitchen has several options, including a non dairy rice crust with soy cheese and a cheeseless roasted vegetable variety.

If do it yourself thrills you, pick up some Follow Your Heart, Vegan Rella, or Teese Vegan Cheese at the grocery or health food store.

There are dozens of options for toppings.

Poo doesn’t have to be one of them.

Nicole Lapin Says Houston’s Veggie Burger Is The Stuff!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, August 21st, 2009 in Business, Food & Drink, Journalists, Restaurants.

The 33rd Annual Gracie Allen Awards

CNN journalist and vegan hottie Nicole Lapin recently updated her Facebook about stuffing her face with a veggie burger from Houston’s Restaurants.

“Why does Houston’s have the best veggie burger on the planet?? It’s deliciously oxymoronic…”

What goes into a Houston’s veggie burger?

The menu says the House Made Veggie Burger contains, “sweet soy, Jack cheese, mayonnaise and mustard on a house-made bun.”

No note on whether vegans can leave off the cheese and be safe.

Heather Mills vegan cafe VBites opens in Hove, Brighton, UK

Treehugger has compiled a list of their favorite celebrity green businesses and vegan star Heather Mills made the cut.

Not only does Heather run her little vegan cafe and restaurant in the UK called V Bites, she also recently purchased Redwood Wholesale Foods.

And that just makes Heather greenalicious!

From Treehugger.com:

“Last month we reported that Heather Mills opened Vbites Café, a seaside vegan establishment in the U.K. offering unique meatless meats and vegan favorites–accompanied by vegan and organic wines and beers. At the time, we had also caught wind of a potential new vegan frozen food business. While we at TreeHugger were skeptical over the motives, Heather Mills’ Web site now confirms that Mills is indeed the new owner of U.K.-based Redwood Wholesale Foods. And she isn’t stopping there: The company hopes to soon bring their meat-free brands to the U.S. for distribution.”

It’s no surprise a vegetarian business made the eco cut.

Meat’s not green and never has been.

Go Heather for making green so darn tasty!

2007 Projekt Revolution Tour

Fred Mascherino, ex Taking Back Sunday guitarist and singer recently spoke with phillyist.com about how he gets his grub on while touring.

Apparently, there are a few places that probably know Fred by name as they’re on his radar when he’s in the cities.

“…I’ve spent more time on the road than at home the last several years, I’ve come up with my little… I know what state I’m in and where there is to eat there. In Baltimore there’s the Paper Moon Diner. In Boston there’s Grasshopper and there’s this vegetarian hot dog joint I always go to. In Austin, Texas, there’s a Thai place I love. So I get to know these places; I’m out [on the road] so much that I kind of memorize all these places that I like to eat”

Fred’s little black book of veggie restaurants seems to cover a lot of ground.

Sounds as if this guy’s never without a dinner date.

Who’s got the best veggie chicken sandwich?

Amy from the Veg Cooking Blog asked readers at peta.org to chime in and help her make that decision.

The responses chose restaurants in every corner of the United States, including the heart of the midwest at Chrissie Hynde’s vegan restaurant, The Vegiterranean.

The Vegiterranean features the Grilled Gardein Bruschetta Pomodoro Panini. You can tell from the name, this is no ordinary soy patty on a squished bun.

As Amy writes:
“The sandwich comes with balsamic basil marinated tomatoes and soy mozzarella and is accompanied by a grilled vegetable orzo salad.”

Wow. Sounds delish!

Others that made the cut include New York city’s Red Bamboo’s Chicken Parmesan Hero with “soy chicken with vegan mozzarella cheese, smothered in sweet basil marinara sauce and served on Italian bread.”

Hungry yet?

Rise Against Concert Gives Bad Veggie Burrito Experience

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, August 14th, 2009 in Bands, Business, Food & Drink.

Rise Against Visits Fuses No. 1 Countdown

You know that the all vegetarian band Rise Against is big on spreading their vegetarian beliefs, whether it’s through bringing up the lifestyle during an interview or having vegetarian information packets available at their concerts.

At a recent Lollapalooza 2009 concert where the guys teamed up with band Animal Collective, their fans were fortunate enough to have vegetarian fare to choose from, but according to Time Out Chicago writer Doyle Armbrust, the vegetarian burritos were akin to euthanasia.

“Perhaps these PETA-championing vegetarians can write an homage to the veggie burrito that sent my writer colleague home early with food poisoning during their set.”

Of course, the food poisoning could have stemmed from the colleague’s earlier entree of beefy cold cuts or a chicken salad for lunch.

It’s never pleasant to see a veg burrito get bad publicity, though. Ouch!

If you’re looking for some good vegetarian burritos, check out Amy’s collection, which happened to be the staple of Death Cab For Cutie’s Chris Walla.

From bean and cheese to vegan non dairy beans and rice to breakfast and even Indian flavored varieties, Amy’s wraps veggie burritos up and tucks them under in all the right corners.

And we bet they won’t send you home with a belly ache.

You already know the desserts at Erin McKenna’s BabyCakes bakery are vegan and made with good for you ingredients like coconut oil.

Now, notable photographer Ryan McGinley shows they can be incorporated into a “healthy” New Yorker’s diet.

McGinley recently described his cupcake experience with Michael Stipe in the New York magazine weekly article, The New York Diet.

Apparently Babycakes cupcakes, coconut water, and vodka make a great balanced dinner.

“For dinner, at 8 p.m. I had cupcakes from Babycakes at Michael Stipe’s new apartment. It was a pre-housewarming, pre-curtains-on-the-windows party; he hadn’t been in town for three months. We drank coconut water and vodka…That was sort of dinner-ish.”

If you’re concerned about Ryan’s nutritional deficiencies, you’ll be happy to know he had another “dinner” at 3A.M, which consisted of a salad of arugula, roasted beets, tomatoes, green beans, new potatoes, broccoli, red onions, zucchini, and fresh fennel,  along with ravioli with ricotta.

MTV And Rock Band Official Showcase

Joining dozens of other musicians, including Billy Coragan and Jimmy Chamberlin, Third Eye Blind’s lead singer and guitarist Stephen Jenkins has given Kentucky Fried Chicken the thumbs down.

Jenkins signed the petition PETA has against KFC due to the way chickens used by the fast food franchise are handled during and before slaughter.

The pledge Stephen and other celebrities have signed against KFC reads as follows:

“Each year, roughly 1 billion chickens raised for KFC suffer from extremely crowded conditions, crippling bone and joint problems resulting from top-heavy breeding, callous handling, inhumane slaughter techniques, and shortened life spans. Because chickens are intelligent and sensitive animals with strong social bonds, I urge David Novak and KFC to address these issues with urgency and negotiate with PETA to improve the lives of these animals.”

KFC has made and is still working towards improvements in its Canadian restaurants, and even offers a vegan chicken sandwich there.
