Half naked men or kitties.

No, this isn’t some perverse dilemma you have to solve. Battlestar Galactica has come to an end, but fans can partake in a little post show party by voting for their favorite PETA ad done by Jamie Bamber, aka “Apollo,” or Tricia Helfer, aka “Six.”

Jamie starred in an ad against using bear fur in the hats for the Queen’s guards. Tricia’s PSA urged kitty owners not to forget the essentials for their four legged friends-daily litter box cleaning, fresh water and food, and lots of love.

From now until April 13th, you can post a comment on peta’s blog, to cast your vote. Winners will be notified on April 14th and will receive a copy of the ad of their choice.

For the UK animal lovers, PETA has the same contest, but the deadline to enter is April 7th.

Corey Feldman’s Grandparents Thought Vegetarianism Was Nuts!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 25th, 2009 in Actors, Animal Issues.

Premiere Of Walt Disney Pictures Race To Witch Mountain - Arrivals

Actor Corey Feldman has some genes that make him love animals, as his mother was an animal rights advocate. Good for him for having such a compassionate mother, because grandma and grandpa thought vegetarianism was just plain tipesh!

Note: Hebrew vocab 101. Tipesh is the word for dumb, idiot, stupid…you get the point.

From an interview with Look To The Stars.org:

“By the time I was 10 years old, I was resigned to the fact the I wanted to be a vegetarian for the rest of my life. However, growing up in a strict family environment, my grandparents where old Jewish traditional type people and thought I was crazy for wanting to be a vegetarian. It took until I was about 13 years old when I made the decision to be a strict vegetarian… and have been every since, and it’s been about 24 years for me now.”

Growing up, Feldman and his mother had as many as 50 animals living with them on their ranch as a result of their obsessive dog and cat rescuing tendencies.

Nowadays, Corey lists animal rights organizations such as the Humane Society, PETA, Farm Sanctuary, and Last Chance For Animals as his top choice for charities.

Visit LookToTheStars.org for the entire interview with Corey.

Russell Brand To Have Hot, Veggie Date With Lisa Simpson?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, March 24th, 2009 in Actors, Comedians, Pop Culture.

Russell Brand Signs Copies Of Russell Brand: My Booky Wook

Executive producers of The Simpsons, James L Brooks and Al Jean, would like to write comedian and actor Russell Brand in the cartoon show.

Al Jean said Brand was “very funny”, and added, “I would definitely be interested in writing an episode around him.”

In addition to Brand, Brooks and Jean want President Obama too.

We’re thinking Brand could have a date with Lisa Simpson.

After all, they both follow the same diet, and Brand wouldn’t be the first vegetarian celebrity Lisa meets on the show while dodging Homer’s love for lamb chops.

It was the help of Paul and Linda McCartney that helped Lisa maintain her veggie lifestyle in carnivorous loving Springfield.

It’s high time Lisa found herself a veggie mate. We just can’t picture her having dinner every evening with Milhouse.

Robert Pattinson: Some Veggie Burgers Grow In The Garden

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 23rd, 2009 in Actors.

Twilight Press Conference

Hey all you vegetarian vampire fans. The Twilight DVD has recently come out and if you have what they call OCD, or “Obsessive Cullen Disorder,” you’ll be checking out the DVD’s extras, such as the watching the movie with commentary by Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and director Catherine Hardwicke.

During such commentary, the group starts talking about the shot where Bella is eating a vegetarian burger at the diner with her dad. Rob mentions he was talking about veggie burgers with Hayley Williams, singer from the band Paramore, that has a couple of songs on the soundtrack.

Hayley mentioned Gardenburgers, and Rob says he’d never heard of a veggie burger being called a “garden burger.”

Director Catherine Hardwicke says that a “garden burger” is a little more elegant way of saying veggie burger. To which Rob replies, “I think a veggie burger is much nicer. It sounds much more appealing. Garden burger sounds like something you found in the garden.”

Aw, did Rob just diss Gardenburgers without even knowing it?

If you know Gardenburger, you know they have a plethora of veggie patties, from Flamed-Grilled to Black Bean Chipotle to Garden Vegan. And you know they don’t taste like dirt!

We’ll have to educate Rob on Gardenburgers some day.

Larry Sullivan on Myspace

See what happens when you follow us on Twitter. We write a post about you.

We’re just tickled pick that actor Larry Sullivan reads us. And even more tickled that we found out about him.

Sullivan, who Tweets @larrysullivan, is a vegetarian who’s had roles on “24,” “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” (wonder if he shared a veggie snack with Jorja Fox) “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” to name a few.

According to Vegan.com, after seeing one of PETA’s Kentucky Fried Cruelty’s billboards, he went on the Internet to do his research and realized he couldn’t possibly not be a vegetarian.

“Hours later, I was still at the computer crying like a baby realizing what I had been a part of for so long. I made the decision right then that I was going vegetarian. The timing was perfect. What better New Year’s Resolution than that! So New Year’s Day 2006 was the day my life (and the lives of many animals) changed for the better!”

Awesome Larry! Congrats for being in the exclusive Hollywood veggie club.

Ma Po CloFu: George Clooney Tofu

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, March 13th, 2009 in Actors, Food & Drink.

The Newseum Hosts A Screening Of

Come again?

No, you heard correctly. Someone wants to make a George Clooney flavored tofu. Oh, come on, you know who.

PETA paparazzi somehow got ahold of a gym towel that was soaked in the actor’s sweat. Through magic vegetarian chants (well, actually it’s a combination of gas chromatography and mass spectrometry) chemists can isolate his odor characteristics, which can be extracted and blended into your tofu smoothie or stir fry.

Yep, that’ll get people to go vegetarian.

G to the R to the O to the double S!

Says PETA from its blog:

“Some people don’t try tofu because they expect it to taste bland, but we know it can absorb any taste—so CloFu could make your taste buds and your heart melt. Of course, what’s even better is that after everyone gets a piece of George and realizes how delicious tofu truly is, diets will be revolutionized.”

The group wrote to Clooney personally, asking him what he thought of the idea:

“We have been offered some of your perspiration, apparently taken from a towel at a gym in Washington, D.C. We are big fans, and this prospect has given us an interesting idea that we hope will amuse you too.”

“The technology actually exists to take your perspiration and make it into George Clooney–flavored tofu (CloFu). We could do that and give the tofu away.”

Well, if it’s free…the economy is getting tough, you know.

Bent On Learning Charity Event With Gwyneth Paltrow

So what’cha what’cha what’cha want? Some raw vegan food!

When Mike Diamond, aka Mike D of hip hop group, the Beastie Boys, wanted delicious raw food prepared for him, he called on his personal chef Aaron Ash.

Aaron thought that if celebrities like members of the Beastie Boys liked vegan, raw foods so much, surely regular people would too. So he opened Gorilla Foods, a raw food/vegan/organic cafe in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Some in the US often joke about “moving to Canada” for various reasons, including the healthcare system, but hey, here’s reason #1 in our opinion.

The menu consists of vegan pizza with walnut “cheez,” Cashew Alfredo Zucchini Linguini with zucchini “Newdles” and cashew cream, and a vegan dessert menu that’s longer than the salad one. Finally!

And everything’s done without a stove top or oven.

A reviewer from the Vancouver Sun had this to say about the experience:

“When I had lunch there on a recent Saturday, I left feeling like I’d just had a refreshing shower. Raw food does that. When you think of it, it’s like salad tricked out in costume. The menu masquerades in straight-ahead offerings – pizzas, veggie burger, falafal, taco, linguini, wraps, salads, an assortment of desserts including carrot cake and cookies, juices, smoothies and shakes.”

When actor and raw foodie Woodie Harrelson is in town, Ash caters for him as well.

Yeah, you can’t front on that!

Larry Hagman, Hall Of Fame Honoree, Spent $1 Million Going Solar

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 11th, 2009 in Actors, Environment-Eco-Green.

30th Anniversary Reunion Of

Larry Hagman, the actor who became famous for playing J.R. on Dallas, is set to be inducted into the Texas Film Hall of Fame, along with other celebrities like Billy Bob Thorton, Powers Boothe, and Catherine Hardwicke.

We think it’s time we put him in our little green veggies hall of fame.

Hagman is a vegetarian who is really into solar energy. Like, to the tune of a million dollars that he invested to make his homes run on that sunny stuff!

According to Coolerplanet.com, his 25,000 square foot residence gives him an annual energy bill of only $13.

He’s shares his goodies, too.

Since his system provides more than what’s necessary to power his pad, he also supplies solar power to five neighboring homes.

A healthy eater, environmentally conscious, and giving all in one package. Not hard to understand why his wife of 54 years, Maj, has stuck around for this long. You’d be hard pressed to find a man this good, ladies.

Congrats to Larry! Keep up the green work!
