Alicia Silverstone dressed cruelty-free during her performance of Time Stands Still, and she recently took to her blog to discuss some of the companies the play’s costume designer, Rita Ryack, patronized to find outfits for Silverstone’s character, Mandy.

You may have heard of Alternative Outfitters, home to vegan shoes, handbags and other accessories.

Ryack shopped there, as well as Anthropologie, which she loved because of its use of natural fibers.

“I do worry about synthetics a little, though – because who knows what goes into their production?” Ryack said.

There are many synethic materials some advise against wearing, due to the chemicals involved in the production and finishing.

The best natural vegan fabric?

Cotton!

Ryack also liked using Etsy stores because they helped small businesses.

“It’s like I have a magic, secret toolbox that handles everything and I want everybody to have it because it’s amazing. It really opens your heart up and takes the gunk away. All that nasty food we put in our body that is just gunking up our system … it’s hard to know what’s your right move. So I feel grateful for (my diet) because of the clarity I feel.”

Alicia Silverstone gave the folks at Sweet Freedom Bakery a call requesting some vegan, gluten-free cookies.

The Philadelphia business responded, and hand delivered the Time Stands Still actress several goodies this past weekend, including chocolate chip cookie sandwiches.

Has Silverstone always known about the vegan delights in the city of brotherly love?

Or was she trying something new, looking to expand her list of favorite eating establishments?

Alicia Silverstone just embarked on a brand new project–a role in the Donald Margulies play Time Stands Still.

Alicia chatted with the NY Mag at one of her favorite veggie restaurants, Pure Food & Wine about her new role.

Alicia may be snacking on edamame and acai juice between Acts now, but it wasn’t always that way.

“I was a total meat-eater, are you kidding me? I was 21, and when the word health came up, it meant, ‘Oh, you’re telling me to lose weight.’ I had quite a bit of pressure about my weight and stuff. So I said, ‘Fuck you. I’m going to eat whatever I want. I don’t care.’ I just totally rebelled—I was anti-health. My love for animals is what saved me.”

After the NY Mag suggested Alicia’s character Mandy in Time Stands Still is somewhat like her Clueless character Cher-superficial and bubbly-Alicia insisted that was where the similarities ended.

“Cher was a teenage girl and Mandy is a professional person who runs entire events. She meets her lover at a launch party for a book on Darfur. Just like everybody, she’s had pain, but she’s not going to war.”

Wonder no more, the Clueless Girl is making a career comeback on the Broadway stage, playing the girlfriend of an editor in the play Time Stands Still.
