Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone frequently uses her website The Kind Life to discuss veganism and motherhood and she recently asked readers what they thought of a vegan breast milk sharing program for vegan mothers who are unable to breast feed on their own.

The actress was informed of one vegan woman who had underwent surgery and was unable to produce enough milk to nurse.

Writes Silverstone on The Kind Life:

“A lot of women unfortunately have a similar struggle, and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be able to give their babies the most amazing start in life with clean, mean, glorious breast milk. It’s why I’m starting the Kind Mama Milk Share, a way for moms to connect with other moms in their area. If you have milk to share–post it! If you are in need of milk–post it! Think of all the babies we can help raise together!”

Alicia Silverstone Animal Friendly Passover And Easter Tips

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, March 21st, 2013 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

Alicia Silverstone

Alicia Silverstone has shared her ideas for an animal friendly Passover and Easter.

Alicia writes on The Kind Life:

“Last year I got thinking about the similarities between the Passover and Easter traditions. Jewish people search their homes for leaven before Passover starts to get it out of the house (since chametz or “leavening” isn’t allowed in the house during Passover). Christians celebrate Easter by searching for eggs (the egg is seen as a sign of renewed life or resurrected life by breaking out of it, relating to Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday). So both holidays have this tradition of searching…”

“Now, let’s make our hearts stronger in honor of Valentine’s Day! Meat is a major contributing factor to high blood pressure and heart disease, which lead to heart attack and stroke. And beef isn’t the only culprit… chicken contains as much cholesterol as beef and trout is right behind! Dr. William Castelli, director of the Framingham Heart Study, says a low-fat plant-based diet would lower an individual’s risk of heart attack by 85%! You can read more about this in The Kind Diet. So be kind to your heart today by eating veg!”

Alicia Silverstone is writing two new books, The Kind Diet Cookbook and The Kind Mama, and is looking for contributions from her readers and fans.

Silverstone would like to know how a vegan diet contributed to their pregnancies, if any.

“As I write my next book The Kind Mama, I’m looking for anecdotes to feature from members of The Kind Life! You guys are so important to me, especially because I started TheKindLife.com at the same time my book The Kind Diet was published,” writes Silverstone.

“I know not all of you are kind mamas, but I’d love to hear from those of you who have had a kind pregnancy…and for those of you who don’t have kids yet, hopefully this info will be helpful!’

Living in New York City, Lea Michele sees horse-drawn carriages on a regular basis. And while some may feel it’s innocent entertainment or tradition, the actress took to Alicia Silverstone‘s blog, The Kind Life, to urge readers to take a stroll through city parks by foot instead–and possibly get the horses to a sanctuary.

“My biggest trouble these days are the poor horses in Central Park. Living in New York City, I see them sadly standing on the sides of busy streets with their heads right in the asses of the horse right in front of them! They walk in the rain, snow, and heat, pulling people all day long, rarely getting proper food, water or care.”

“If you live in New York, next time you’re walking down Central Park Blvd. and you see tourists considering going for a ride, suggest to them that they take a stroll through Strawberry Field instead–the horses cant go through there-or rent a bike…or now they even have people who ride bikes and have seats for people on the back! It’s so much more fun.”
