Last month, vegan shoe lovers cried a river after learning the news that our dear Natalie Portman’s line of Te Casan shoes had ceased production due to a bad economy.

But Stella McCartney, her UK sole sister (pun intended), is still steppin’ strong and you can wear her gorgeous brown suedette boot this winter, looking sharp with a clear conscious.

Be ritzy, yet comfortable with a combination of a spike heel and slouchy ankle.

Best of all, you know the only skin ever involved with them is your own.

Natalie Portman’s Vegan Shoes Stomped Out By Economy

Te Casan Vegan Footwear Collection Launch Party

Very, very sad week for eco-friendly shoes lovers.

Proof that celebrities are not immune to the financial problems the world is enduring, Natalie Portman’s vegan shoes are no longer being produced. The parent company, Te Casan, closed shop, due to failing sales.

It’s not known whether Nat will take her shoes elsewhere for production for the line that was launched in February of this year. The shoes went for about $200 a pair-not exactly a bargain, which may have turned off a lot of people in this economy.

The forecast for affordable, quality, cruelty-free clothing is somewhat grim. Vegan shoes are hard enough to find. Vegan shoes that allow you to still be able to keep the lights on the same month you purchase them may be even more difficult to locate.

Could this mean that vegans and vegetarians who don’t wear leather will end up settling for cheap, imported, pleather shoes which tear and fade after a week and bang your feet up so badly, you need band-aids on your toes just to wear them?

Leona Lewis recognizes this problem and says she wants to make her future vegan shoes and bags easier on the bank account.

Leona, your help can’t come soon enough.

Pam Anderson’s Vegan Foot Fetish: She Wants Her Own Line Of Shoes

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 4th, 2008 in Actresses, Fashion.

Pamela Anderson arrives in Australia to promote her Reality TV series

Following the footsteps (no pun intended) of fellow veg sister Natalie Portman, Pamela Anderson is interested in designing her own line of vegan shoes. Since discovering one of her favorite pairs of shoes, Ugg boots, is made from sheepskin, she’s determined she and other vegetarians can do better.

“Like a lot of women around L.A, I always wore Ugg boots until I realized what they are made from,” she said.

“I don’t wear them any more. Instead I’m designing my own range of animal-friendly shoes. My goal is to make sure every mom in Malibu has a pair of boots that are not sheep.”

She’ll definitely have a vegan fanbase for the shoes when they eventually come out. And hopefully, with her celebrity status, many non-veg feet fashionistas will realize you can look great in your own (and not another animal’s) skin.
