Mayim Bialik has shared a few vegan substitutions for traditional Passover dishes in the New York Times “Well” blog.

In a post titled, “A Vegan Passover,” the blog discusses how certain foods restricted at Passover, grains, beans and corn, may present a problem for vegans who subsists on the items.

The traditional Seder plate, consisting of six foods that symbolize the story of Exodus, contains both lamb and egg, two items that are definitely not vegan.

Bialik has created substitutions for both.

“I love to cook and I feel like there is so much interest in plant-based eating. I get a lot of non-vegans saying to me, ‘If more people cooked like you do, I would actually eat vegan more often.”

Mayim Bialik to US Weekly. More people might be eating vegan soon, as the Big Bang Theory actress is in the process of writing her first cookbook, The Plant-Based Family Kitchen, which Bialik says will include vegan versions of many traditional Jewish recipes.

If you can’t wait until the cookbook comes out, get a head start learning Mayim’s cooking style by sampling her vegan Rosh Hashanah cake.

Mayim Bialik has shared a delicious recipe for vegan donuts with PETA.

Sofganyot is a traditional Hanukkah treat that Bialik has learned–like many other of her favorite comfort foods–to veganize.

During an interview in 2010, Bialik said these donuts were one of several ways she “indulges” during the holidays.

“For Chanukah, eight days of fried latkes with vegan sour cream. And we make vegan sofganyot (israeli doughnuts) too.”

The Big Bang Theory recently featured a few of the characters in a pie-eating contest, including Mayim Bialik‘s Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler.

Bialik took to her blog to discuss the episode and scene, in a post titled, “Top 10 Behind the Scene Moments from Last Night’s Pie Eating Scene.”

The best part of the scene? The pie was vegan and kosher.

The worst? Bialik has horrible blueberry allergies!
