Alice Cooper Urges Meat For Better Rock and Roll

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, July 16th, 2013 in Male Musicians, Male Singers, Not So Vegetarian.

Alice Cooper

Alice Cooper is so unhappy with some affairs of the music industry, he’s blaming it on vegetarianism.

During an interview with Fuse, the rocker was asked if bands like Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers could be considered big names in modern rock.

Cooper disagrees, and if anyone thinks differently, he feels they should probably eat a steak.

“Going vegan and making that transition is not as daunting as you might think. It can seem like this insurmountable hurtle. People eat more vegan food than they realize, you know? ?Cause, you know, I, like most people, I grew up eating meat and animal products without thinking about it, but it’s, you know, now it’s been almost 10 years and I don’t look back. It doesn’t even strike me as an option anymore, and that transition happened naturally, and I’m happy and healthy, and that could happen to anyone.”

Maroon 5 Mickey Madden Says Band Is Vegan Friendly

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, August 12th, 2010 in Bands, Food & Drink, Male Musicians.

Mickey Madden

VegNews magazine interviewed Maroon 5‘s bassist Mickey Madden and learned about his journey to veganism as he gradually gave up animals products, starting in high school. These days he finds it easy to keep up what he started as he says all the band members are supportive of his diet, making it easy to eat well on the road. Oh, and that Tweet sent by Adam Levine on aiming to be a vegetarian after the steak indulgence–it probably doesn’t happen too often, as Madden says Levine is 85% vegan.

“We’re all extremely health-conscious and everyone is really vegan-friendly. Adam [Levine], the singer in the band, in particular will eat, I’d say, about 85-percent vegan for health reasons. All the band members are meat-eaters, but they’re not close-minded and [they] understand the principles of veganism. It makes a big difference. It’s so strange, I obviously have reasons that relate to the world at large for my veganism, but it’s so much a personal choice and a matter of personal preference that I’ve never understood the reaction to it that some people have.”

Adam Levine

Some people mistakenly call eating chicken or fish or only abstaining from red meat vegetarian. Adam Levine calls vegetarian what he promises to do every time he comes home from the steakhouse.

During a recent Tweet, Levine wrote, “Being a vegetarian usually consists of eating a steak and promising that tomorrow I will start being a vegetarian.”

Guster’s Adam Gardner is the face of the Green Music Group’s latest challenge to eat local, and while he’s one of the leading forces behind this campaign, he has his wife to thank for greening another area of his diet.

“It was really my wife’s environmentalism that rubbed off on me!” Gardner told Good. “Once we started living together, suddenly I was eating vegetarian, composting, walking everywhere, running the laundry machine in off-peak hours. It was the dichotomy between how I was living at home and what life on the road was like with my band (gas–guzzling tour bus, trash all over the place at the end of a show, awful fast food, etc.) that sparked the idea for Reverb in the first place.”

To remake an ACDC song: “He’s got green balls. And she’s got green balls. But Al Gore’s got the greenest balls of them all.”

The Inconvenient Truth presenter will host a green inaugural ball tomorrow with locally grown food that includes vegetarian and vegan options cooked by chefs located right across the street (to reduce carbon emissions from vehicle traveling with the food).

Maroon 5, who enjoyed raw vegan chef Ani Phyo’s catering for their vegan Halloween party, will be providing the musical entertainment, along with Will.i.am.

Guests will walk on carpet made from recycled fibers, waste will be recycled and composted, and contributions will be made to Native American family farmers partaking in energy-conservation projects to offset carbon emissions.

Groups that are on the invite list include Sierra Club, Natural Resources Defense Council, Earthjustice, Vote Solar Initiative and Youth for Environmental Sanity.

Some balls are held for charity. Some for fancy dress. But the balls held for the environment are the balls that we like best.

She’s won two categories in the Best of Raw 2008 poll!

Ani won for Best Raw Chef and Sexiest Raw Vegan Woman (hubba, hubba, giggity, giggity). And although she is sexy, brains are what really count, and she won second place for her intellectual efforts as a Raw Vegan Educator.

Congrats to Ani!

With celebrities like Eva Longoria and Fergie making New Year’s resolutions to eat healthier and raw, Ani just might find herself catering more vegan parties to the stars soon.

Oh, yeah. Vegan chefs are rocking!

First, we told you how hottie Adam Levine and his Maroon 5 band mates chose vegan raw chef Ani Phyo to cater their Halloween party. Now, the ever so popular celebrity chef movement is recognizing that vegan food deserves its star on the Walk of Fame too.

“Great Chefs Cook Vegan,” is filled with dozens of recipes from celebrity chefs such as Dan Barber, Thomas Keller, Charlie Trotter, Todd English, and Daniel Boulud, pictured here.

“Great Chefs” was compiled by vegan Linda Long, who decided she wanted to challenge the chefs to offer more than lettuce leaves, and cook three or four course meals that would make any vegan beg for seconds and thirds. Long has been a vegan for 33 years, so she definitely could tell them when to send a dish packing!

For an example of what made the cut, try Cauliflower “Steak” With Quinoa.

Great Chefs Cook Vegan would make a lovely complement to One Can Make A Difference this holiday season, don’t ya think? Start dropping hints about your wish list now! Or, if you prefer, you can always buy it for yourself and sing the song of, “Happy Holidays to me.”
