Fall Out Boy Concert In Las Vegas

“I used to be a butcher at Pick N’ Save, then I became a vegetarian soon after for obvious reasons.”

—Andy (The Butcher) Mrotek of The Academy Is on how he got his nickname. The name stuck, but he’s just butchering plants now.

AFI And Blaqk Audio Frontman Davey Havok Has Vegan Fashionista In Him

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 9th, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers, Videos.

AFI and Blaqk Audio frontman Davey Havok has put his pretty face on video to let you know he thinks humans were not meant to consume animals. There’s even a little bit of fashionista in him–he’s making shirts that portray the same message for his new clothing line Zu Boutique. Looks like he’s wearing one with a dancing (soy?) hotdog on it. Go here to register to win a free T-shirt before September 24th and watch his PSA video below.

“As human beings, we are not meant to consume animals; we are not meant to consume animal products. … I’ve begun making shirts … to remind you–to remind everyone–that it is, in fact, murder.”

More from the Vegetarian Times interview with Chris Walla:

“Were it not for our freezer stash of Amy’s Frozen meals, the bus would be a much grumpier place. Eating healthy makes it easier to get along.”

They’re smiling, so they must have had some of Amy’s burritos recently. And what’s with the hand over the mouth-is he belching?

Death Cab For Cutie Play Sydney

The October 2008 issue of Vegetarian Times features a short Q&A session with Death Cab For Cutie’s Chris Walla with writer Gabrielle Harradine. Check your mail, it’s probably there already. If you don’t subscribe, what the heck are you waiting for? Get your veggie butts to the grocery stands already!

Anyway, there is a site called Cooking With Rock Stars, which features, you guessed it, musicians and their favorite recipes. Chris Walla has his “Peanut Butter Veggie Sausage Toast,” recipe posted. In the interview with Harradine, he said:

“It sounds wrong, but it’s really good! Ideally, you use Lightlife Gimme Lean Sausage and Sourdough bread: Toast a slice of bread and spread peanut butter on it; then grill the sausage in your favorite oil, halve them lengthwise, salt to taste, and place them on the toasted bread.”

This sounds almost as bad as RZA’s veggie patty between waffles. But we have to trust Chris on this one. If anyone tries this out, please let us know!

A lonely looking Paul McCartney going for a walk in London

Unlike his experience at Nick and Toni’s in the Hampton’s, Paul McCartney thought the perfect place to stick this food would be in his mouth.

Chef Aldo Zilli at Signor Zilli restaurant in Soho, London, prepared a menu specially for McCartney that consisted of five courses-all of which Paul ate, including avocado and mango salad, asparagus wrapped in leeks, chargrilled veg with mozzarella and goat’s cheese ravioli.

Yeah, we’d stick most of that in our mouths too.

IFTA (Irish Film And Television )Awards 2008

A list of top vegetarian friendly rehabs has been released by PETA and several of the centers have catered to many celebrities, including Mel Gibson. While we don’t know if any of these celebs actually requested non-meat meals during their tenures, we definitely know where Amy Winehouse’s next stop should be if she decides to go vegetarian. Here’s what she might enjoy:

Passages (California): Hummus, tabouleh, pasta primavera, vegetarian lasagne, wild mushroom pasta, vegetarian tacos and burritos, and veggie burgers. Mel Gibson stayed here.

The Meadows (Arizona): Tofu, veggie burgers, and vegetarian casseroles. Kate Moss, Eric Benet, Mike Tyson, Elle McPherson, Tara Palmer-Tompkinson, Paul Gascoigne, Ron Wood, Kerry Katona, Michael Barrymore, and Whitney Houston have all done rehab time here.

Cottonwood de Tucson (Arizona, yes the The Grand Canyon State has 2 of the favorites!): Baked rigatoni with spinach, wasabi mashed potatoes with snap peas, veggie pizza, veggie fried rice with spring rolls, portobello mushrooms stuffed with polenta, vegetable tostadas, green corn tostadas. Ron Wood, Geri “Ginger Spice” Halliwell, and Robbie Williams have all said, “Yes, yes, yes,” to here.

Pet Names For Death Cab For Cutie’s Chris Walla Include “PETA Guy”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 in Bands, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Death Cab For Cutie Play Sydney

Chris Walla is a vegetarian who loves his Amy’s Kitchen Frozen Meals. He’s also done work for PETA and is so passionate about veg issues, his bandmates, Nick Harmer and Jason McGeer have nicknamed him, “The PETA guy.”

And although Nick and Jason are not vegetarian, they follow the Morrissey workforce culture and abstain from meat while on tour.

“We’ll roll that way for an entire tour just because it’s just easier having food brought in or prepared,” Jason said.

“It’s easier to say the whole band is vegetarian because we can eat that, for sure, [but] they [Chris Walla and Ben Gibbard] can’t eat the other options,” Nick added.

Good idea. Not only is it easier for Chris and Ben, but it may just be job security as Morrissey’s crew would be terminated if any burger in their mouth wasn’t Boca.
