Alice Walker Praises “May I Be Frank?”

Broadway Opening Of The Color Purple

May I Be Frank? is a total makeover show for one man’s diet and life.

In the film, which is in the final production stages, an obese Italian American named Frank Ferrante is taken in by three guys at the Cafe Gratitude for a complete diet 180 to help Frank get healthier, rediscover himself, and fall in love.

If you recall us telling you, Cafe Gratitude is what raw vegan singer and songwriter Jason Mraz chose to name his current tour after.

The guys at Cafe Gratitude coach Frank as the former 10 espresso coffee drinks a day and drug addict eats only organic, raw vegan food for 42 days.

Alice Walker has recently reviewed the film on her blog, and praises the men at Cafe Gratitude for helping Frank reinvent himself.

“Some of us have taken our unruly selves in hand, the prerequisite step for liberation and peace, and some of us have dedicated ourselves to helping our sisters and brothers along. Not for the “doing good” aspect, which is fine, but simply for the fun of it. It is finally, fun, for these three young men to help Frank find his true and radiant self. Or joy, that word for which I am convinced our planet was meant.”

Have you experienced joy in doing good for someone lately? Whether it’s buying a carton of soymilk for your friend to try or warning your uncle about the dangers of trans-fat, is it time you gave yourself pleasure for helping someone along?

Some fans got together and did a remix of Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours,” from his album, We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things.

Everything’s cool and all except the fact that it’s filmed at MCDONALD’S and features people ordering all SORTS OF NASTY MEAT DISHES!

Of course, raw vegan Jason is cool about it and let’s people know on his Myspace blog, that while he’s not down with McDonald’s, he’s down with people having fun with his song.

“I’ve seen a lot of covers and heard a lot of parodies of “I’m Yours,” but this one is super sized. While I don’t advocate that brand of fast food, I dig what these talented people are doing by taking their art into the real world, being joyous and unafraid to shine their light in random acts, enrolling others in their wonderful state of play. This is life you guys. This is it. There ain’t no dress rehearsal. Order what you want.”

Seriously, people need to make an “I’m Yours,” remix at a vegan restaurant.

Watch the video for yourself.

Jason Mraz likes it raw. And ever since he opened up about his chocolate avocado dessert, he’s never stopped talking to the media about his raw vegan diet.

So it comes as no surprise that Jason’s named his latest tour after a chain of raw foods restaurants in San Fransisco, California, Cafe Gratitude.

Cafe Gratitude, the tour, kicks off in July in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Cafe Gratitude, the menu, offers elixirs, juices, and smoothies, appetizers like raw nachos, and raw soups, salads, pizzas, and veggie burgers.

Jason Mraz, the only vegan man who can make avocado and chocolate go good together, has a photography book out, A Thousand Things.

“I just wanted to let people see some of the things I’ve seen,” Mraz told PopEater. “The book contains images I’ve taken all over the world.”

The book not only captures the world, it’s kinder to it as well. From his website:

“This eco-friendly book was printed with soy-based inks on FSC- and ISO-certified woodfree paper. The cover stock is also FSC-certified, fully recyclable, and chlorine free. Environmentally harmless glues were used in the binding process, and all printing films, plates, and waste paper were recycled.”

“I just think it’s necessary to find an alternative solution so we can have less of an impact on our community,” he added.

The photographs were all shot with the nearly extinct Polaroid camera, which allowed Jason to retain his mellow personality, slowing down to capture life in its purest form.

“Digital Cameras are like automatic weapons. You’ll most likely hit your target. The Classic Polaroid Camera is the suction cup dart gun of this advancing age. Thus, my Polaroid hobby invites me to slow down and see more on my walk through life.”

You can view a sample of the photos in Jason’s book, then order a copy for yourself.

Stand Up 2 Cancer - Los Angeles, CA

If you frequently travel by plane, you know the rules of what you can and can’t fly the friendly skies with is pretty strict. So you have to wonder how Jason Mraz gets his bundle of powders and knives through security without a eyelash being batted.

These powders and knives are for preparing delicious raw food dishes, by the way.

Tracey Pepper, writer for the Vegetarian Times, asked that question in the Q & A section of the February 2009 issue of the magazine:

Q: You’re on the road for months at a time. How do you stick to your diet while on tour?

A: I travel with a very large knife and a Vita-Mix 4500 blender. I love my Vita-Mix blender.

Q: How do you get the knife through security?

A: Oh, I check it. I also check a special flight case that holds all my [raw food] powders and mixtures.

Jason says he travels with “plenty of nuts.”

No, he’s not talking about his band and crew.

Usually only security knows what’s in that mysterious case he packs. But if you want to find out, visit the Vegetarian Times for the entire interview.

Don’t forget to look at the picture of the crazy sounding chocolate avocado treat Jason concocted.

Nobel Peace Prize Concert 2008

The Best of Raw poll brought to our attention that vegan raw chef Ani Phyo swept several categories like Amy Winehouse took Grammies at last year’s awards ceremony.

However, we neglected to inform you that one of our favorite raw vegan men, Jason Mraz, took home his vegetable statue as well. Mraz was voted the number one raw vegan musician!

Remember, if you’re writing to congratulate him, do so on poop paper only, please.

We took a good glance over the list to see if there was any other celebrity we left out and we think we’ve got it covered.

But just in case we don’t, view the list yourself and see who else was raw enough.

Hard Rock Calling Festival 2008 Day 1

If you’ve been keeping up with the news we bring you (and you should), you know that Jason Mraz switched to a raw foods vegan diet last Spring and is a homegrown avocado farmer.

He’s talked about his love for avocado before and mentioned it briefly with E!Online. When asked if he was an avocado expert, he replied:

“I like to think so. I certainly know how to choose them in a grocery store.”

Oh, Jason, Jason, Jason! You do so much more than choose the right ones in the grocery store.

Mraz has created his very own Chocomole, a chocolate mousse made with avocado.

Trying to be humble?

When he doesn’t have an avocado sweet tooth, Jason likes to cut them in half and sprinkle lemon juice on them before gobbling up.

Write To Jason Mraz On Poop Paper Only Please

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, November 14th, 2008 in Environment-Eco-Green, Male Musicians, Male Singers, Videos.

Jason Mraz likes to lessen the environmental impact on his body by following a vegan raw food diet, as you’ll hear him mention in this video. We’re sure this includes lots of avocados from his farm. You’ll also learn how he’d much rather you write to him on recycled paper made from, ahem, animal poop. It’s much better for the environment.
