Gossip Girls Blair, Serena Diss Seitan: Book Aaron Would Flip

Gossip Girl catscrap in Brooklyn

Who would’ve thought when we posted the information given by Gossip Girl book series author Cecily von Ziegesar about book Aaron being a vegan that there would be more veggie “gossip” about the show to come.

In the latest scoop, Blair (Leighton Meester) and Serena (Blake Lively) make a joke about seitan, which some people think is a jab at the Brown University hippie vegetarian culture.

Serena: I’m just reading the Brown catalog. Oh, and I ordered a home dreadlocking kit. Wanna meet up later?

Blair: Definitely! Maybe we can get a jump start on your veganism — have some celebratory seitan at Angelica Kitchen?

Serena: I can’t think of anything better…or grosser.

Katie Molinaro, a blogger for the Huffington Post, didn’t think the joke was very funny. She often writes posts on vegetarian/vegan issues and had this to say about the clip:

“Groan. “Gossip Girl” writers, really?…It’s time to grab your Marc Jacobs trench and step outside of the writers’ room for a minute.”

“In addition to being terribly outdated, referring to vegan food as gross shows how uninformed the writers are. There are vegetarian restaurants around the country that are serving innovative and delicious meatless dishes, and Gossip Girl’s hometown of New York City has some of the best. Perhaps before writing another circa 1987 vegan joke, the writers should try the sweet and sour seitan nuggets at Tiengarden in the Lower East Side or the flame-grilled seitan skewers at Blossom in Chelsea or the soul chicken platter at Red Bamboo in Greenwich Village (and Brooklyn, but with the things they write about that borough I don’t think they’re welcome there).”

Molinaro then goes on to nominate the Atkins diet as the new butt of a food joke because of its high fat, greasy red meat content.

Go Katie!  We second the nomination. Go watch the video of the clip in Katie’s post, then tell us what diet or food product you would like to be the butt of the joke.

Gossip Girl Taylor Momsen Would Like Book Aaron Too

The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards - InStyle/Warner Bros. After Party - Arrivals

When we last brought you the 411 on Gossip Girl, we learned that in the book series, unlike his television character, player boy Aaron, is a vegan and book Serena would never fall for the onscreen version.

Looks as if Taylor Momsen, who plays Jenny Humphrey, might get along better with book Aaron as well.

Although she’s not a vegan, she was vegetarian for awhile and still abstains from red meat, according to Taylor-Momsen.net:

“I don’t eat any red meat. I was a vegetarian for about a year, and then I incorporated fish back into my diet. And I eat a little bit of chicken occasionally, for protein, but I eat a lot of vegetables. I’m pretty much vegetarian, aside from when I do eat fish or chicken. And a lot of fruit—I eat pretty healthily. My mom raised me to eat pretty well. I never really got into junk food. But once in a while I do splurge, though.”

We would slam her for her “pretty much vegetarian” Gwyneth Paltrow slogan, but at least she’s not going around professing to still be one.

Not to mention how great it is that she’s not eating red meat.

On the set, she gets energy from eating apples and peanut butter and her “comfort food” is dipping animal crackers into water.

Real Gossip Girl Serena Would Want Herb Smoking Vegan Aaron

Penn Badgley, Blake Lively, John Patrick Amedori on location for 'Gossip Girl'

On the TV series “Gossip Girl”, John Patrick Amedori plays the player Aaron Rose, who dates both Vanessa Abrams (Jessica Szohr) and Blake Lively’s character, Serena van der Woodsen.

But according to the author of the books the series was based on, Cecily von Ziegesar, the real life Serena would never fall for Aaron, who she describes as “ick.”

“I do not believe that Serena would go for icky Aaron as he is portrayed on the show,” she said. “He’s so slimy!”

Book Aaron is also VEGAN, smokes herbal cigarettes, and has mini-dreadlocks.

And although plots on the big screen can carry on for weeks and weeks, book love is quite short.

She adds, “He and Serena fall in love, but it only lasts for about one book.”
