The magazine has been very favorable to the plant-based crowd and even featured an exclusive interview with Gene Baur, the president and co-founder of Farm Sanctuary.

“Most people don’t think very much about the impacts of when they eat and those impacts are profound not only for our own health but for the well being of other animals and for the planet itself.”

“[Veganism] It’s good for us, it’s good for the animals and it’s good for the planet.”

Gene Baur, president of Farm Sanctuary, one of the largest and well known sanctuaries for abused, rescued and neglected farm animals in the United States, during a recent appearance in Charleston, West Virginia.

Gene Baur, president and co-founder of Farm Sanctuary, one of the country’s largest organizations for abused, neglected and rescued farmed animals, sat down with the hosts of KTLA’s Sunday Edition to answer a few basic questions about the vegan lifestyle.

Baur busts many common stereotypes about veganism.

It’s not the new anorexia and people who follow the diet are quite healthy. It’s not always expensive, doesn’t require a membership to the organic co-op and you may even be able to find a few staples at the local dollar store. An even if you end up paying slightly more, it may save money in the future. Baur cites a statistic that a vegan diet could save us all 70% on our health care costs.

“Tragically, the way most Americans eat, food is more like poison, making us sick and killing us prematurely. Heart disease and cancer are the nation’s top killers, and the risks of both can be reduced by eating plants instead of animal products. Removing meat, milk and eggs from the menu also prevents animal suffering and goes a long way toward lightening our environmental footprint. People are finally recognizing the profound impacts of their food choices, and we are now in the midst of a burgeoning food movement.”

This year, the hottest group on tour doesn’t even have a lead singer or guitarist, but they sure are making noise.

Farm Sanctuary’s co-founder Gene Baur is traveling across the United States in an iconic van like the one he started the sanctuary in back in 1986 when he sold veggie hot dogs form it.

“When programs like “The Martha Stewart Show” devote valuable air-time to the plight of farm animals and the benefits of veganism, a powerful message is planted in the public consciousness demonstrating that these issues are important and worthy of our consideration. Stewart has built a media empire based on her uncanny ability to influence the tastes and opinions of consumers. When she speaks about the importance of showing compassion for farm animals, millions of people — many of whom may never have considered these issues before — listen.”

Farm Sanctuary’s Gene Baur Discusses Goals For June

Winter Wonderland For The Animals: A Farm Sanctuary Benefit

The Los Angeles Times has featured five questions with Farm Sanctuary’s co-founder and president Gene Baur on the organization’s goals and his personal motivation for the work he does to protect animals.

Baur says June, like any month, will be a busy one at Farm Sanctuary, as he and other representatives will continue their work with the case against the Ohio dairy worker charged with 12 counts of animal abuse to cows as well as talking to officials in Washington about the state of school food.

“Farm Sanctuary will remain involved with the Conklin dairy case and initiative in Ohio, and our farm visitor programs will continue. We’ll also be reaching out to officials in Washington, D.C., and urging them to support policies to prevent animal cruelty and promote a healthier, plant-based food production system. Among the federal legislation we are supporting is the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act (H.R. 4733) and the Healthy School Meals Act (H.R. 4870).”
